Easy there. Are we forgetting Turkey (2010?), Spa (2010?), Abu Dhabi (2012 )? He's has his fair share of PR **** ups. When you have a car that can qualify 1 second ahead of the rest it's easier to avoid close battles. It's that he is much more of a media darling and knows how to play the game far better than Hamilton. That there is no doubt.
Vettel will always have the shadow of Newey hanging over in, hence why there are many doubters. Whether that bothers him or not, who knows? When you're racking up the WDCs who gives a shit. Maybe he might have to do a Hamilton, and leave the cradle. he can't suckle on the ample breast of Newey's genius forever.
Davidson's point at the end is rather telling, especially for someone who's good friends with Button.
I can imagine the shareholders at McLaren asking some serious questions!
On a slight side note can't help thinking Hamilton and Alonso are doing good job of psyching Vettel out. Alonso doesn't refer to Vettel much, rather than 'the car' or flat out says Newey is the real genius. Hamilton came out with saying he doesn't consider Vettel in the same league as Alonso. Seemed to show a tad today with vettel over-driving. Despite penalty the championship is still going his way.
wouldn't make mine boil. I've spoken to 'F1 guys' and they can tell you more than a few occasions of teams bending the rules and manipulating the game. Some of which would change your view of the history of the sport. That's the sport really, it's bloody ruthless. The only disingenuous part of the sport is the coverage of the drivers compared to the real stars/competitors - the engineers.
It really ticks me off when teams are accusing of 'cheating'. eeerrr... this is F1, this is how the game works.
For sure, the FIA should make sure it does everything it can so all the teams play by the rules, but in my book once the car gets through pre and post-race scrutineering that's all that needs to be done.
The reason he isn't considered a 'great' is his success has been coincided with the recognition of the genius of Adrian Newey. Alonos can win 'despite of the Ferrari' and Hamilton can win 'despite of his Mclaren team' (and it has to be recognised had McLaren not completely ****ing up at every available oppurtunity this year Hamilton would have had a healthy lead in the championship). Vettel wins 'because of newey'. That's just the general perception. And really it's all meaningless drivel to fill collumns in magazines.
Possibly, but FF will have to cut the costs dramatically either way. Though that is off-set slightly by the extra coverage FF will get next year with ITV4.
What is it with new cars and dodgy build quality recently? Everyone said the same about the new F Renault car hence its demise.
another suspension failure in two consecutive races... how strange.
This year has been a perfect demonstration of how to lose the championship with the best driver and best car by McLaren. If you look through the season it is a truly remarkable thing. They remind of the England football team - they can lose from any given situation
Unfortunately for Lewis he is going to a worse team... lol
Had a race with a couple of the BTCC guys Friday night. There was me thinking they'd cause carnage and it was me getting a black flag when I smashed into the leader going for P1 (as you do. It was wet and we were on slicks)
Anyone check the size of the BARC Renault grid? 32-34 in today's cash strapped scene. That's amazing.
Well the inside of that corner is the outside of the one preceding it. Of course you can't always been Mr H&S but I can't see why some people are a bit more smart with where they decide to stand when watching rally.
it's a faith based competition. These guys apparently fly around the world and try to spot as many different species of birds as they can and they note them down. There's no way to verify results, but it's all done on a gentleman's agreement type thing.
What quite a large chunk of people fail to realise about people like Schumacher is that the instinct that makes them comeback is the instinct that made them so good it he first place.
The search of new challenges and new accomplishments and not to sit on what has already been achieved is the difference between your 7 times world champs and 1 time world champions.
I don't know about that, certainly not clearly intentional. When there is contact that directly affects the front wheels and then consequently upsetting the car's balance as well as driver input , it can occasionally looks as if someone is intentionally doing something when in fact they are not at all. We also have to factor in possible steering arm/suspension damage in the initial collision etc...
But it's a racing incident. IMO the BMW should have been a bit more careful on the cut back. At the first point of contact he was asking for trouble, intentional or not. After T1 at Donington the natural inclination is to curve to the right. He kept his car pretty straight. Just pointless. Don't risk it.
I don't see any intention. Just a racing incident. The guy on the outside didn't have anywhere to go. The nature of the contact and viewing angle made it look intentional. The BMW should have been much smarter.
I'd keep Massa. Why interfere with Alonso? Just have a #2 he can definitely beat. Having competitive team mates gets you no where unless your car is sufficiently dominant that the WCC is a formality.
Sign for Merc, suddenly his McLaren picks up serious and consistent pace with Merc being nowhere, then his hopes for Merc in 2014 could be blown apart....
It certainly makes F1 'interesting' but you can't help feeling this has got disaster written all over it.
