Have you ever competed in a sport where your actually livelihood is on the table? Where you don't know whether you will have the money to get to the next event or your next meal?
And comparing to LFS is a complete nonsense. Motorsport is jam packed full of rule-benders.
You can try and compete sport in the 'spirit of the game', but good luck trying to get funding. Yes, always try to improve rule enforcement, but don't judge the athletes.
The idea is to win... and you do what you need to do to win. Simples. Would I bend the rules? yes! If my funding/sponsorship was on the line I wouldn't think twice about binning my bike for a restart... not twice.
it's **** all to do with self-esteem. It's about putting food on the table, and you do what you have to do. You just have to trust the stewards/officials to enforce the rules but I certainly wouldn't judge athletes who 'push' it.
I'm sorry if I understand that athletes train to win gold... you know actually win the competition. They played the system, which is obviously flawed, but can you really blame them? I'd have done exactly the same thing. As I understand it there's nothing explicit in the regulations that prohibits such behaviour.
Your sole objective is to play to win gold. That's the 'spirit of the games'. If winning a game actually hinders this goal then that is the problem. It's certainly not pretty, but fully understandable. I think if that exclusion was in an F1 race arena the lawyers would easily get the ruling overturned, but I guess it's the Olympics and anything goes.
The people that organise the competition need to change the system, that's fairly obvious.
Am I missing something here? You are there to win gold not to please the crowd. The idea is you do all you can to win gold. If the system means you have to throw games, then that's what you do. I have no problem with it. It's no different to a driver saving tyres or lowering engine revs.
It could only be possibly done with karts because a majority of racing drivers have experience of them. To supply lottery engines/karts is very simple. The Rotax World Finals do it every year, though there is always guys that might get a dodgy engine. It could be done, I just don't think it should.
Karting could work if they followed the FIA/CIK academy model but the problem is you wouldn't get many F1/WRC/GT boys racing because they'd most likely get beaten by the Ardigos/Fores/Thonons of the karting world. It;s just too complicated, and I wouldn't like to see. I like the fact motorsport isn't into the Olympic thing.
Motosport should never be an Olympic sport. Keep them as far away from it as possible
On a side note, spent the day in London yesterday. Scawan was having a solo gig at Hammersmith Apollo.
Not very busy at all considering. I was expecting chaos but it was like a winter's day. not many tourists. Wouldn't want to be a business right in London... getting a right kicking. So much for the Olympic legacy #proudtobebritish
It isn't my taxes that are being spent on this 'wonderful festival of sport' (how many drug cheats?) it is the taxes of people that haven't been born yet. It's taxation without representation, and it's morally repugnant. Basically for our own pleasure, we a billing future generations. I'd rather be miserable than selfish. I love sport and watching the best sportsman is wonderful, but at this cost... it's bullshit.
But really it isn't anything to do with being 'miserable', it's about being a realist. Sorry if I think the economy going down the shitter, and kids finding themselves in greater and greater poverty being ever-so-slightly more important issue than a bunch of millionaire sportsman parading around as if what they do is somehow important. I feel sad for you that you think orherwise.
Had the Olympics come in at the original budget (2-3Bn), you know what, it wouldn't bother me so much. I like watching the Olympics, despite my views on display here.... BUT.... right now the country is in the shit, broke, bankrupt, and like a bunch of gullible morons we're being fooled by a bunch of politicians and over-rated directors saying.. oh look we're closing hospitals and shit.... but look at the lovely fireworks and here, have a big mac. Are we seriously THAT gullible in this country? Or do you look at greece and think "oh, wasn't the Athens Olympics a GREAT idea for that country"...
Any serious discussion is being suppressed. For example, if my memory serves me correct the LA Olympics model sounds quite good. Lesser reliance on public funds, and TV and sponsorship stumped up most of the cash. For sure, there is an arguement beyond pure economics. A fair few people like watching the games and so on, I get that. but where's the discussion?
Derek and Clive would have been ****ing brilliant and entirely appropriate ... you stupid c*nt...
I'd have been fine with the opening ceremony if it was preceded with
"What will now follow is a party political broadcast for the Labour Party"
The only reason you don't hear so many complaints is because everyone is so goddam fearful of the backlash. Emporer's new clothes anyone? Feels like we are in the USSR at times with how the media is portraying the whole thing. They need to be reminded the Guadianista who make up most of twitter... are not representative of the whole of the UK. Biggest controversy is some empty seats, I'd like to know where they've found £20bn from... and why it was so much higher than the initial budget.
If it were me I would have had giant statues pissing everyone's money up against a wall while eating a big mac because that's what this whole exercise really is. I'd have also had Derek and Clive playing to demonstrate real British humour, not Mr ****ing Bean. Actually that invokes quite a disturbing image
and this #proudtobebritish nonsense... criinngggeee. thought us brits were above that sorta thing... clearly not.
Beware everyone don't criticise the opening ceremony the Twitter/BBC thought police will come after you. It was very political and very left-wing... as you would expect. Any dissenters will be punished. Some MP merely stated the whole thing was very lefty biased as is fairly obvious.. and boom twitter (apparent protectors of free speech) go into a Daily Mail outrage.
While I won't deny I do enjoy watching the games (I am into sport performance), I'm with you on this.
It's one big giant con-job. It's costing the UK at least £10Bn + hidden costs. (more like £20bn)... and you would expect the great, the magnificent British Media to actually question this.. and they've done **** all. Even the BBC, so-called 'savior' of British Culture, is in on it.
The reports of it being worth £15bn to the UK economy is bullshit too to cover the fact it's losing everyone money. You pay taxes so some rich ballbags can sit in a giant stadium sucking each other off and the general public sit their lapping it up like expectant vaginas.
Has to be said that Lucas and Jann did a bit of karting when they were younger kids. That does mean they had access to real life driving and feel at an early age.
I still think a pure simmer can make it IRL, if they have the right attitude.
Jann Mardenborogh just won his first Brit GT race so I'd say yes.
I am also convinced if I got hold of someone like Sinbad on here (who has not just speed but an understanding of racing that translates to reality) and with a few ££s could make him a race winner.
What'seven more crazy she raced the next day.... and won. she only found out she had fractured a vertebrae was on Monday. I'd be ****ing furious at the doctors for missing that one.
