Quote from Jakg :The pedals in my car hinge from the top - the pedals on my wheel hinge from the bottom. IRL I push the pedal back (they don't actually rotate much), whereas with my wheel the pedal goes round as it rotates much more.

Some vans, like a VW LT, have pedals that hinge from the bottom.

Quote from The Very End :"you canot vote kick ...something.. on higher ranked people"

This would be the silliest insim rule ever.

Something high ranked drivers can easily take advantage of. And by sounds of it...it happens.

Quote from BigPeBe :Now I really do hope that the rumor of it getting released for PC is true.

Keep dreaming. This rumor has never been more than just wishfull thinking. The GT-series has allways been one of sony's most effective marketing tools for getting a good market share for the ps 1, 2 and 3. I can't imagine them giving this advantage up.

Quote from scania :diesels have torque

They do indeed but you need revs to turn it into power. Torque alone is nothing.

A diesel still lacks throttle response compared to an otto engine.

I never understood the benefit of having an FPS which is higher than the refresh rate.

Not having a go at things posted in this thread so far but for some reason having FPS of 100+ seems to be a must-have to some.

Quote from 010010011010 :how about a diesel?

audi r8 v10 diesel
or
audi lemans diesel
or
just a good old bmw 330d

The only good thing about diesels is fuel consumption and that isn't really an issue in simracing.

Well, as with any pickup server, The standard will differ from session to session. You will always have drivers incapable of interaction. Or children who go "WTF" or (in case of very religious people) "OMG" for every misfortune.

In my opinion the SR-fox server is better adminned but for some reason it does not attract the crowds like the FM-server does.

I have been there a lot over the last couple of weeks. The driving standard is decent considering the full grids.

Quote from hotmail :Great idea,
I am only not sure or it would be working like we want too
How do you want to set it up?
Is every server having his own setup?
How is it going with tyre temp. if you finnish the race the next race they are cold again but then are just used.
or will the tyres hold the temp.

I agree there is a lot of room for finetuning within this concept. I would say the tires should lose some temperature before the next start.

Quote from boosterfire :Wouldn't it be ironic if VW had time to develop a whole new model of the Sirocco before we get it?

Yes it would be!

...still a Golf on steroids...
No new tires for next race

How about a server option to keep the tires (and maybe even damage) for the next race.

The option to pit for new ones (and repair) after finishing could remain but this would just give up the grid position that is gained by the result of the previous race.

It's such a waste to throw away a set of tires after just 5 laps.

Quote from mythdat :He didn't mean what Brawn have done this year - he means F1 died as a concept because the technical regulations became so restrictive that it's easy to build something that will lap a track faster than an F1 car on a much smaller budget if you're not so constricted.

It has been like that for decades (if not since the very beginning). This is not a contemporary issue.

Quote from wild :No it wouldn't really work, it's mostly designed for long straights and gaining an advantage passing others.

If they press it coming out of the slow corners they would end up spinning it I think.

IIRC KERS can only be deployed above a certain speed, 100km/h I believe. I think traction would be a bigger issue below that speed anyway (as you suggested).

Quote from hyntty :According to Erkki Mustakari, an "expert" commentator, df plays no role whatsoever in Monaco...

fp.

That explains the additional wings many teams used there in the past...

Many corners may be too slow to take full advantage of them but the straigts aren't long enough be disadvantaged a lot by the additional drag.

I think traction and confidence are the key at Monaco

Quote from Intrepid :LOL F1 as a concept died MANY years ago. For me this happened once someone could, with a fraction of the budget of a big F1 team, come in and build a car (not F1 spec) that would outperform an F1 car.

I do not think it has ever been a major engineering challenge to design something faster than F1 without restrictive parameters.

Quote from Mustafur :I don't think we need to ask for rain anymore, everything is too unexpected you never know if the kers teams will perform or not.

I do not think kers will be a factor at this track. I can not imagine it will be enough to make a pass on this track and it's not necessary for defense here either.
