Quote from george_tsiros :oh yeah and f1 engines that have... what? 300bhp/l?

Huh ? You've just answered your own question.

Forced induction has been banned from F1 since 1989. And since 2006 the naturally aspirated 2.4lt engines have been producing way over 700bhp.

Quote from Eleanor SpeedGT :how they got that big crane up there?

And more to the question. How much are they paying the bloke that drives it !?! Wouldn't get me up there for ten million quid. I'm getting dizzy just looking at the pictures.

Quote from zeugnimod :I'm pretty sure every one of the athletes in the final "used" something.

You're far too young to be a cynical old git. Where's all your naive optimism of youth gone ?

Apparently the Jamaican team and Usain Bolt in particular have been tested virtually every day since they got off the plane, sometimes even two or three times a day. He was joking he had given so much blood for testing he'd probably faint before the finish line.

Stunning, stunning performance though. Probably the "golden moment" of these games, despite Phelps' best efforts.

Interesting news.

I've been following this new Roc since it was announced, and most of the road tests say it's a cracking drive. Even The Stig likes it ! Apparently it looks a lot better in the metal than it does in the photos....

Still not a proper Roc though

Not so much a racing vid, but one i found very very interesting.

This a comparison between a BMW 330i M-Sport and an Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo (i.e a 2.2lt diesel with an auto gearbox) on a lap of Donington.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhIKPTKOaTY

Track looks great too really hope they don't mess it up for F1, (but lets not get into that again)

Might have guessed Lerts would have moved into "Lerts mode"..

Not got a clue about this "third eye stuff" buddy

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but this extract might make you think:

The first occurrence of fluoridated drinking water on Earth was found in Germany's Nazi prison camps. The Gestapo had little concern about fluoride's supposed effect on children's teeth; their alleged reason for mass-medicating water with sodium fluoride was to sterilize humans and force the people in their concentration camps into calm submission. (Ref. book: "The Crime and Punishment of I.G. Farben" by Joseph Borkin.)

That "One World Government" lot, want to drastically reduce the worlds population and keep it firmly under control (if you believe this sort of stuff).

Not saying any of this is true. But i can say my teeth certainly aren't any healthier since they started putting this stuff in the drinking water. And if you look at the amount of apathy in this country over the last decade or so, it does make you think. Incidentally, alcohol counteracts most of the above effects of fluorine/fluoride and its various compounds. Interesting how most civil and social disorders are fueled by alcohol (tenuous i know). But why has our government for one have been trying to get us to stop drinking bottled water and back onto tap water over the last few years.

Well Lerts, i used to work in the environmental health industry, and the things i could tell you, you'd probably never eat anything from a shop or restaurant ever again. But i'd be here all day, and i cba tbh.

But if you really want to scare yourself silly and add to you're already increasing levels of paranoia. I suggest you take a look at the REAL reasons why various governments around the world have been trying to add Fluoride to their nations water supplies over the last few decades or so. It sure as hell ain't so we've all got nice shiny teeth.

Quote from tristancliffe :and next year a 1998 Dallara.

Well he certainly seems happy about it. Not sure he'll like wearing a green cape, stockings and suspenders though .

What else did you expect me to say ? something serious ?!?

F398 though, nice, very nice. Must cost a bob
or two.

I've been playing with my crystal balls quite a lot recently, so i reckon if you give it a few years you'll be running you're own fully fledged professional racing team Tristan. You'll see...

wow, this is damn hard to write when you can't see what the hell it is you're writing

Quote from thisnameistaken :One of the luvvies in the pub last night made a good point: "How does anyone find out they're good at the pole vault?"

Same way you find out if you're a good drunk...

Most pole vaulters i know came from a gymnastics background. It's an event which requires good upper body strength and extreme agility and coordination. (and guts, coz it's damn scary when you're hanging upside down clinging onto a bendy plastic pole waiting for it to fling you into the stratosphere).

For some reason i know quite a lot about the pole vault even though i've only done it once in my life.

True story: Many many years ago at a club event (at Carnegie Hall in Leeds funnily enough) our second string vaulter didn't show up. So, me being the only one stupid enough in the team (i.e couldn't think of a decent excuse not to do it) i stepped up to the plate. Even though the event included Keith Stock the UK senior champion and UK record holder and Olympian, Ian Tullet the UK and European junior champion and record holder, and Andrew Wake the Scottish national champion, amazingly i didn't come last (probably for the same reasons i was in the event) I won't embarrass myself by telling you how high i managed to vault. But i can tell you that the winner of the high jump jumped higher than i did with a geet long pole

--

On topic, yeah i done loads too, some at national and international level and some just for fun, but that was many many years ago. Nowadays i reckon i could be an Olympic Champion at watching telly.

Quote from breadfan :What car with a 1.3l piston engine has 250hp? I asked because I just don't know and would like to know.

The F1 turbo cars of the 80's were producing 1200 to 1500 bhp from a 1.5ltr engine. So with todays level of engineering expertise i think anyone could get between 250 and over a million bhp from a 1.3l, easy.

--

As far as i'm aware Mazda persist with the rotary engine simply because they want too. It's very similar to Porsche still putting the engine in the wrong place in the 911. It's a trade mark, a unique characteristic, something only they do. An RX wouldn't be an RX without a rotary, just like a 911 wouldn't be a 911 without their washing machine engine crammed into the boot where the golf clubs should be.

I've done a little searching and it had a couple of screenings at specialist film festivals earlier this year. But the 8th of August is the nationwide release date here in the UK.

Just checked my local "art house" cinema and it's showing for at least a week starting this Friday. So definitely going to see it.

Sorry Mr Rammstein but, is this for real ? You're gonna buy a $150,000 Ford GT and take it to track meets :jawdrop: Bloody hell dude, did you just win the lottery or something ?

Seriously though, i dunno if it's the same Stateside, but over here your insurance premiums are gonna go through the roof. By way of comparison there's a well know singer over here who's paying $40,000 for a years insurance on an Enzo, and that's only for road use. No telling how much it'd be for track use, but my guess it'd be twice as much.

Why not just keep the GT for road use, to look ultra cool, and to pick up girls in, and go buy a little Miata or something for the occasional track day. That way if you should stuff it into the nearest wall you wouldn't have to sell your house to pay for the repairs.

Jealous, me, never....

We want pics though, or it never happened.

Quote from de Souza :Pretty good indeed. Try this one as well if you didn't already.

Just been reading some of the user comments on that imdb page you just linked to, and wow it sounds good. Most people are saying it's almost a follow on from City of God, but even better And no, i'd never heard of it till you posted it.

Looks like it's released here in the UK on the 8th Aug, so, that definitely one i'll have to go see.

Thanks for that De Souza

Didn't Honda confirm Rubins and Button had signed contracts for next year and had ruled out signing Alonso on a one year contract only a few weeks ago ? Or did i dream that ?

If all this is true it yet again shows Alonso's true character. He really is an arse isn't he.

It's from 2002 but City of God is a must see.

Even more startling when you realise all but one of the cast were ordinary kids picked from the street.

Now i come to think of it maybe ten years was a bit of an exaggeration. Probably more like four or five. I needed a couple of small two inch wheels and it was one of those things where it was cheaper to go buy a pair of roller blades instead of buying two wheels by themselves. So after removing the wheels the rest was filed away into the "well, i may need it later" pile.

A friend of mine was around the other day and she accidentally wandered into my man crap room. I was quite offended when she called it "nothing but worthless junk". It may be all junk, but it's far from worthless. You never know when you'll need a set of venetian blinds with three missing blades and a slightly warped traffic cone, or a set of roller blades with two wheels missing. I tried to explain that man crap was the male equivalent of a shoe collection, but she wasn't buying it.

Funnily enough i've just been in there to look for something and found a chest of draws i never knew i had....I love my man crap room
