I wasn't going to respond to any of this IHR v Cargame rubbish but I feel compelled now.
I suppose that thread can be read a couple of ways. The way I see it is.
Guy gets banned
in his first protest post he threatens to open his own server if we don't unban him
I respond that he should feel free to open his own server as threatening to do so will not help his case
He does open the server as a "matter of pride" but copies virtually everything except the admin attitude. Nothing we can do about it, his server his choice.
Obsolum, should I have unbanned him so that he didn't set up his own server?
Now why is IHR not the busiest anymore? We decided not to allow newbies on. It has been mentioned already in this thread. We made this choice knowing that we would no longer be busy. Check the post I made at the time. I stated that we would no longer be the busiest.
Now be honest cargame, did I or did I not PM you asking for your permission to tell newbies to go to your server when they can't race on ours? If I wanted the cargame server to fail why would I suggest to people to go there?
So yes Obsolum, cargame sure showed IHR even though IHR recommended cargame server on many occasions.
Edit: Now can we please not have this thread hijacked into another IHR vs Most of the forum. It is not the topic of this thread. danowat is right about the hostile community and JPeace, it's good to see we can agree on some things and act like grown ups about it.
I love the way people are peddling their opinions as fact here.
If it's dead for you then move on or do something positive to help revive to a level you consider to be alive again. All the moaning and declaring stuff to be dead makes no difference at all.
Personally, I still get a lot of enjoyment and for me it is very much alive.
PMD9409, There was nothing wrong with your first reply and I tried to address your points in mine. Some people are just not very good at debating in the written word and it appears that I am one of them.
I did not say you called us idiots, if you thought I did then maybe I wrote it wrong for which I apologise. I did not mean to insult anyone and aplogise if I did.
What annoyed me is that my first post was ignored and you guys carried on having a go at Killfix's. Yes I do get defensive. Shoot me for defending my friend and team.
That's me you want to point that at. Would you want to let me into your server if I openly call you and your team idiots? Besides, you only know about that exact ban reason because you tried to join.
Shout on here that IHR are all idiots then you will not be welcome on our servers. It's not rocket science really.
FACT. You have not raced on our server since 03.02.2010. How can you possible know how clean it is?
I've already said, in as many words, that the OP was wrong in what he said as he doesn't have ALL the information to make such a statement. Neither do you, me or anyone else who has posted about our cleanliness ranking so far.
You make a good point here. The problem is though that IHR and cargame, to take one of your examples, have completely different views on how to run the server. It's like the conservatives and librel democrates trying to run the country together. Oh wait...
Well done you can do a server look up. Now be a good boy and join up and check how many different cars are ACTUALLY on the track too. (at time of writing 3 classes, one of which is a new addition) You know, the point I was trying to make earlier about it being more CHOICE and the fact that it is rare to have more than a few classes on at once.
Now that I am home from work I would just like to add
Mille and Obsolum, you have completed just 30 laps on our servers between you. One of you has not been connected since January the other since the end of March. You have as much knowledge and experience of the cleanliness of our servers as I have of Dead Men Racing. For you to argue that IHR is not the cleanest server is just as silly as me arguing that it is (which I'm not).
Mille, I'd just like to pick up on a couple of points.
My quote was "some of the best quality racing". Making it not quite the bold statement.
Now it seems you are not aware but we make a big decision a few weeks ago to limit access to our servers to those with an lfsei above 200. This basically says complete newbies are not allowed. This had the effect of making us not the most popular server any more. We were prepared for this change and we stated many times that we want to focus on quality rather than quantity.
So basically I agree with your last statement. IHR has got cleaner and it was at the expense of popularity.
Finally please, all, don't get upset about a PR statement based on an opinion. Killfix wanted to announce our changes and did so in the best way he knew. If you like the idea then join us. If you don't then try others. Arguing on here about which is the best or cleanest is pointless as we will all have different opinions based on what is best for us.
I'd like to add to what Killfix has said in his OP.
We have done more than just add cars. We have also changed cars available for different tracks. For example the track it is currently on, at time of writing, is SO2 and only UF1, STD, LX4 and TBO are available. Basically we have removed the fastest cars for short tracks and the slowest cars for long tracks.
Now to address the comments made.
We have added more cars to give our users more choice. It does not mean that all classes will be used at all times. People do tend to choose cars that others are currently racing. At time of writing there are currently 6 people racing but only LX4's and XFG's on track. Just because there are many classes available does not mean that all classes will be in use.
If you want a lower choice of cars for racers then maybe our server is not for you. It doesn't mean that everyone will think like that though. We have listened to a lot of our regulars who have asked us to add the lx4 and lrf class.
Regarding Killfix's comment about best racing in lfs. What's wrong with a bit of PR? All political parties will say they are the best but only one can be the best for you. Agree? Also Dead Men Racing is forced cockpit mode? I don't race there as I don't like forced cockpit so I can't comment on their quality but we feel we offer some of the best quality racing, due to strict admin policies and not allowing newbies to join the track, with a wide choice of cars and a track rotation. Comparing DMR with us is like comparing apples with banana's. It was a PR statement, nothing more. Please don't get upset with a simple PR statement.
1. Yes you can sign up to just this event.
2. Yes you can use any skin that follows normal lfsworld skin rules but you must add a few logos, names and numbers in the positions described in the rules. You don't pick up a number you decide which number you want as long as it isn't already taken. A list of taken numbers are in the first post in this thread
3. Uploading a hot lap is just one of the criteria for being allowed to join. From the first post in this thread
A hotlap uploaded to http://www.lfsworld.net using the FO8 on KY1 within 103% of the World Record
A total online driven distance equal to or greater than 12,340 miles / 20,000 kilometers
A total online laps of KY1 with the FO8 equal to or greater than 300 laps. All drivers, regardless of automatic acceptance, are required to fulfill this requirement.
Attendance at two or more Official Practice Sessions. All drivers, regardless of automatic acceptance, are required to fulfill this requirement.
I don't believe that what I protested was deliberate either. However, keeping a foot on the throttle AFTER initial contact and not removing it for the entire duration does show a complete lack of respect for the other driver.
Anyway that is just ONE incident and I didn't mean this discussion to be about just that. I have witnessed many minor incidents of selfish behaviour. Many of them minor enough to make me look like a nitpicker if I were to protest them.
I also would like to think that the rule "All drivers shall act in a sporting manner." also covers insulting other drivers in the chat. Especially using four letter words which are on most pick up server's swear filters.
Can I just add that my words here are NOT a complaint against the admins of this league. It has been mentioned in briefings and there have been penalties handed out. I am just hoping for a discussion from people with their opinions, nothing more.
But I can only protest stuff that includes myself or a team mate.
I was actually hoping to spark off a discussion about the behaviour during this league, not specifically wanting to individuals to be penalised. Although the one protest I did make, which was rejected on a technicality, was appalling behaviour in my opinion. It is behaviour I would not expect on a pick up server let alone in a league.
I must say that I have been very dissapointed with the behaviour of some during this league so far. This is my first league and throughout the forums I always read "if you want the fairest, cleanest racing then join a league". I guess some of the racers didn't get that memo.
