I don't know if the limit is 400bhp, however there are so weird engine traits once you go over a certain amount of power, such as not revving under no load etc.

I didn't know real RWD wasn't doable? I have a RWD mod, but maybe it just sends the power through the 4WD box in a 0/100 split or something.

Quote from CasseBent :Funny, I always thought slapping on larger diameter wheels would make the top speed higher, given the higher circumference, thus increased travel distance per rpm of the engine. Of course the engine would have to be capable. Plus, touring cars do look better with large rims and low profile tires

You are right.

Quote from Dooonster :
3: the bigger the diameter of the wheels will slow down the both top and start speeds, it takes longer to travel the distance that the original 15 inch steelies would, therefore without any technical words or going into it, it would slow it down but not by much. just think of a mouse running in its wheel give it a bigger one it will take it longer to get the rotation going but when its up to speed it will then maintain the speed its at more consistent rate but then slowing it down would be an issue, well not that much for a BMW as they come with decent big brakes from the start.

You are wrong.
Can't get AA working.

So then, got rid of Vista the other day and have gone to XP SP3.

I've got the latest Nvidia drivers, old 8800GTS, and despite setting up a profile for LFS in the nvidia control panel, I can't seem to get AA working

Bearing in mind I've had AA working before on al my old cards and drivers, can't see why it's not working now?

Any suggestions?

Well all I'll say is the headsets aren't worth anything, I've got loads of free ones with things before, got like 6 kicking around the house or something.

Just sell the phone I guess.

Quote from Crashgate3 :Doesn't the silencer take a *lot* of power out of the bullet? Real guns here, I mean.

It takes a considerable amount out in the game at least.

I never once experienced a story trigger bug, although I could see why it'd be an issue if you did.

The AI is pretty weird at times, on the whole it's fine but I have had the occasional scenario where AI literally didn't die regardless of how much ammo I pumped into them etc. And the enemies on the boats are always annoying.

To those that say it doesn't look great etc, I would say there's really very little that matches it atm, as I mentioned previously, despite not being default content, some of the community mods really show off what the engine can do.

Quote from RedQuad :Plasma Pong is great.
Could something like that in a more simple way be possible anytime soon? (In race sims)

I've done some of my own programming based on the "Fluid Dynamics simulation on the graphics card" papers linked to on the Plasma Pong site. Anyway long story short, even for a relatively crude model of flow, the processing power needed is fairly large. Once you start getting to large, more realistic grids, the simulation starts to become less real-time, which of course is useless for gaming.

Quote from Rtsbasic :Hmm, can't comment on the 1.1 engines really, both mine are 1.4's, which pull quite nicely, for what they are of course.

I always thought they're quite fun to drive - feels like a more refined 205. Very easy to make it do what you want - just chucking it around, or holding it on the balance of oversteer. Fun stuff.

The early clio's are nice, well thought out cars, but one thing to bear in mind is they're very uncomfortable if your tall - I'm not very comfortable in one (6ft5 tall).

I imagine the 1.4 is pretty nippy

True about the Clio (i'm 6ft3), moreover the clutch is possibly the most horrible clutch ever, its SO heavy up to a point, then just floats up. Wasn't just the particular car either, same in the second one he had.

Quote from super_hoops1967 :There bringing out a six dvd boxset (you can get it in the u.k too but it's initially Japan only) where you get the whole Grindhouse experience with both films joined up like they we're supposed to be instead of being split. not sure whats on the other 5 dvd's tho..

That's good to hear, as previously the UK got a raw deal, meaning a lot of the magic of the films were lost.

I test drove a newish 106 1.1 and can safely say it was horrible, quickly walked away from that sale. No poke whatsoever and most of them look like they are crabbing across the road etc. Expensive too for what they are, unless you get a really old one.

You can still get a nice-ish spec small car, even if it doesn't have a big engine.

One car I would say was good fun was my mates (only 1.2) mk1 phase 3 clio (the last mk1s they made). Was SO chuckable in the corners, granted it didn't have much straight line speed, but could hold some through the corners.

2 GTXs are fast than 2 (new) GTSs.

Quote from DeKo :Just out of interest, if you tell the insurance that your are doing 5k, and they look at your mile counter when you crash and its over that, is the policy void straight away?

How would they know? Unless you'd made a claim within a year of making another claim.

I'm fairly sure you don't disclose the cars mileage upon insuring it. However I guess if you do a massive mileage and don't insure for that, then you start to run into issues.

Also if you insure a car at home for example, but then keep it away from home for a few months say and have to claim, does that void your insurance due to it not being kept at home? Tbh I have never read the smallprint so I dont know, would be interested to find out though as I may need to do that soon.

If you get the latest patch 1.1 you have the option of turning motion blur off without having to go to medium settings. There are also other graphics optimisations.

Ajp I don't know what CPU you are running the game on, but I really don't get that bad framerates on high settings with medium shaders on an 'old' overclocked 8800GTS.

I don't think saying CoD4 looks better than Crysis is a fair or correct comment at all. Having played all the way through both I can safely say the Crysis engine is far better, but graphically and for immersion. The CoD engine looks like a updated version of all the other Call of Dutys, but then maybe they've just made it look like that to make it familiar to players of the series.

As I say, grab the latest patch at least. And we're now seeing some community created maps that really show off what the engine is capable of, granted that isn't default game content, but it goes far beyonf what CoD or the Source engine could achieve.

Quote from mcgas001 :I highly reccommend you DONT get your dad to teach you to drive, my brother passed a few years ago and tried to help me. Trouble is im 4th lesson in and ive realised the test standards have changed a LOT now. When doing a turn in the road, did you know you have to pull up to the side of the road, stop. Look all around the car, Get the clutch biting relase the handbrake and full lock right untill you shoulder blade is level with the middle of the road then swing left. Then you have to stop (without hittting the curb) put the handbrake on, look all around select reverse, get clutch biting and move off, and so on, so fourth.... driving has changed a lot just lately..

How else would you perform a safe turn in the road? Just go along at 30, the whack the handbrake on and hoped you ended up facing the other direction having hit nobody? It's hardly new, just common sense. Granted a lot of the driving style you learn for the test is nonsense, but some things do make sense.

My dad didn't exactly teach me to drive, as I had lessons as well, but going out in the car every evening with him for an hour or so certainly allowed me to pass quicker, took me about 8 weeks from when I first got behind the wheel IIRC.

Lol Psychoman, slightly too used to the overly 'comfy' ride of the Omega are we? :P

I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing (same cpu atm, and same new cpu choices). Tbh I'm leaning towards the quad, as it shouldn't be hard to overclock it to the dual core speeds anyway.

Quote from The General Lee :My car has over 100bhp

A lot of people have been very silly here in this thread

Lol yer, either people have no idea how much insurance really is, they are taking the piss, or both.

Tbf my Fiesta had 90bhp which got me around town quick enough.

I'll tell you what, trying to get insurance on a 306 GTi-6 is proving hard for me despite being 20.

You won't insure a 2L modified car.

People aren't seeming to get the point here, you can't reasonably expect to insure anything above a ~75bhp car. It just doesn't work.

Moreover any modifications need to be disclosed to the insurance company, otherwise your insurance is void, thus you are driving illegally. But you already knew that I'm sure.

Here in the UK you will be VERY unlikely to insure anything other than a <1.4 Fiesta/Corsa(*sick*)/Polo/Clio/106/slow Golf maybe/any other small car I can't think of atm, for a reasonable amount.

After a few years of building no claims though you can get something quicker if you like.

There's a lot of bs about how a young driver can't control anything over a 1.2 etc, which tbh is rubbish. As long as you drive remotely sensibly, an extra 20bhp or so isn't going to throw you. Sadly the insurance companies (presumably based on statistics tbf) don't see it that way.

Finally unless you can fix cars or are willing to learn or know someone who can, don't get an old car that'll fail on you, it's just not worth the trouble, you will regret it.

Yer tbh man I didn't actually read that you were going with watercooling, but it sounds like you've got it sussed. The Armour is a nice case, I'm pretty sure I've seen a double fan rad mounted in the front of one before.

Either way, good luck with it, I'm sure it'll turn out pretty nice

You need to watch Grindhouse in it's complete form to fully appreciate either film.

A lot of people don't 'get' these type of films. In a similar fashion I imagine a lot of people didn't 'get' No Country for Old Men, when in fact it was probably one of the best films of last year. There's a lot more to look into that what it appears at face value.
