I've even used the CCC (Catalyst Control Center) to tweak this stuff Not very handy as the settings are worthless for the desktop.

For those who think that this isn't possible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izyZ1kKQzbE

Outerra is a game currently in progress and here is an example that it's very possible. (Yes, those dirt trails are formed over time as vehicles drive in them and they turn deeper and deeper. They also slowly flatten out if not driven on)

Someone might have posted this example before.

Quote from Bose321 :This one came by in my ever-growing collection of wallpapers, thought it was cool.

Hmm, it's hard to find cool car wallpapers for 3360x1050 :P I just find 10mp pictures and crop them myself.

Computer is freshly formated and empty! I don't think the clock is showing the correct time either! :O

Quote from HWX_eXcluded :I would if the pedal arms were longer and slightly curved so that the pedal moves away from me in a relatively straight line and not curve as much as they do if you reverse-mount them. I am however thinking of getting rid of the plastic case and hardmount the rails to the metal plate for added stiffness, plus getting the spacing between the brake and throttle right

With the G25 (not with the G27) you can easily extend the pedals and get rid of some of the curvyness.

Here is a quick guide I made:

Quote from War :I'm not talking about making LFS NFS. I just think it should be allowed to add rollcages and so.

Mhh, and I'd like to get rims with wider offset

Quote from War :I'm quite sure people don't use VOB mods for advantages in close combats. But yeah i kinda agree on letting people to tune the original lfs cars to they're likings. For instance some splitters etc...

Tuning the car is already possible. You can adjust many aspects of the suspension. You can put just about any gear ratios you want into your car. There are a number off different differentials. However, I'm guessing you're talking about the visual "tuning" or modifying. As long as LFS isn't turned into some kind of a ricers derby I'm ok with some minor visual modifications. In fact, there is a car with a cosmetic option already: The UF1 with it's optional hardtop.

Question. You said that the fastest time wins. Is that really a drift competition then?

Yea, I don't think the devs are gonna be happy when they find you advertising an illegal mod in there forum that is dedicated for suggestions to improve LFS.

Quote from Scawen :Were you at an open configuration?

There is a frame rate drop at open configs, because *all* the world objects (track / buildings / fences / everything) are drawn, not only the ones you "should" be able to see.

Oh, I thought there was some kind of a new drawing system there. Luckily I got a new graphics card on the way

Quote from Takumi_lfs :You call those major changes? The new patch will be compatible with the older one.. No major changes are made.

I was told that before, LFS could only determine what to render along a path. That's changed now which means that there is a whole new rendering system that allows for more optimization and for more possibilities. I'd consider that a quite big step forward. Also the fact that something is happening at all is a very good sign.

Scawen Can we have a progress report please.
Cheers

Portal 2 was great. It put a smile on my face at many occasions, something which games usually don't do to me. I can't say it had the same effect on me as Portal 1 though but I don't blame them. Portal 1 was truly amazing. The detail, the sounds and the overall concept being freshly introduced into the mind. That made Portal 1 into quite a mind ****.

With the concept already being introduced, Portal 2 could impossibly have the same impact as Portal 1. However, Portal 2 was still a very, very good follow up on Portal 1. It had even more attention put into it. Prettier graphics, more elements to add variation to the test chambers and a great follow up story to Portal 1. I've got to say; Portal in general is a game that touched me. And Portal 2 is a good job of following that up.

These are all good ideas. I especially like the friend list idea. Shouldn't be that hard to implement. There already is a function to search for a user online and all. Even these forums get information on who's on which server. Basically, an improved online user interface. Team idea is also quite good. About the team option, I think you should be able to join more then one team at once and then maybe you could browse trough which team, if any, you would like to display at the moment.

Because objective is always better than subjective. It's the same reason why people want goal-line technology in football or Hawkeye in tennis. Remove human error/bias.

Quote from spookthehamster :I happened to be at a drift competition the other day (which was crap, but that's not the point) with friends, and we didn't like the subjective nature of drifting (one of the major problems most people have with it). We decided it wouldn't be difficult to produce a properly objective scoring system for drifting, to remove the reliance on human judges.
  • Angle can be measured using a slip angle sensor, either optical or GPS based such as a VBOX II
  • Speed can be measured using the same GPS based system
  • Distance can be measured using a sensor at the designated clipping point/other car, or again using the GPS data (knowing the track outline)
The peak/average readings can then be assigned values and entered into a formula to return a score.

But it can't judge the line along the track which is an important factor.

Quote from thuga69 :i was thinking...and why not put something connected to drift competitions??

would be nice to have something like that, many people would buy the game...thats my idea...

There is a thing called insim that allows for something like this to be done already so it's already implemented into the game, in a way. There are already servers with so called "lappers" that counts score depending on your drifting in various ways. Personally I don't think drifting should be involved with competition at all. It's an art-form. It's about style. It's not a sport in the same sense as racing unless you count sliding around corners to gain time of course.

I shouldn't speak as I probably have no grasp on this. However I'm going to say what I have in mind anyways. When there is lag, there is glitches in the collisions. This causes the total amount of kinetic energy to be different before and after the crash. So I was thinking: In the event of a collision between two cars. Something that could work is that the momentum of each car, is registered right from that cars local computer. So if two cars were to crash into each other. The variables used from each car would be taken straight from each cars drivers computer. This way lag wouldn't affect the total kinetic energy after the crash.

Quote from boosterfire :While we don't even know if there were any talks to get real circuits other than Rockingham in LFS, I doubt there were many, and that was mainly for licensing reasons. Well known places like the Nordschleife hardly need the promotion, so they would see it as potential financial gain, aka make Scavier pay for the track.

Other less known places might want the promotion, though (wink wink Mont Tremblant, Scawen :tilt

Well, I do remember someone or someones saying that one of the reasons the Nordschleife couldn't be added was because the LFS rendering engine couldn't support it (or something like that). The financial issue I think the community would pay back for to be quite honest. There is a topic in the improvement suggestions category with a poll. There is number there of how many people who would be willing to pay for a license with the Nordschleife. I'm not trying to rush things here though Right now it's more important to release the test patch, Scirocco, Rockingham and the new tyre physics.

Edit: Hmm, only 60 people voted for that in the Nordschleife poll though :/

Quote from Amynue :What would you choose?

I rather want the new tyre physics then the Scirocco so I'm pleased

Edit: Why does this forum never send me to the right page when I click the link D:

Also Scawen, just out of curiosity. Will this new way of handling tracks add the possibility for a Nordschleife or any other type of venue that was impossible before, any time in the future?
