DFGT might be cheaper. but I'd still go for the logitech G25/G27 wheels. Only wheel I had for the PC is the G25. It's been holding up nicely for over 2 years. It makes some sounds at certain angles but it's nothing that bothers me. I've opened all the components up and reassembled them to do certain mods such as reversing the pedal mount. (Easy on the G25) and increasing the shifters resistance.

I've heard a-lot about people complaining about the G25/G27 quality and it's been pretty negative. I however haven't felt any of this. I feel that the G25 is of good quality and like I said. Still running after 2 years (I'm not easy on the wheel. I use high force-feedback and agressive wheeling, especially when drifting)

People complain about the G25/G27 having a high deadzone, this is fixed my sliding the profiler force-feedback up to roughly 102% (not 100%) and then adjusting the force feedback trough the game.

Biggest reason to why I picked the G25 is that I really wanted the H-pattern shifter and the clutch. Another reason is that the shifter is a loose component so that I can mount it in waist level. My driving position is pretty similar to that of a real car and that is what makes the G25 / G27 great.

Hope you found this fast write-up helpful.

Sounds like a good idea.
+1 from me.

Unless of course it's already implemented.

+1 on this. Could also be affected by the smooth movement so that when you have a higher smooth movement the view will follow the car smoother.

Quote from Jimmy_Lemon :Hi there

Iv been using mouse most the time i play lfs because my wheel is too noisy at night times. ( Girlfriend gets grumpy when i wake her )

How i have throttle etc set up is like a shooting game.

Mouse for steering only left and right.

W - for gas
S - for brake
A - down shift
D - up shift
E - clutch
Z - look left
X - look right
R - rear view
C - reset car
Spacebar - handbrake

It's the best way to use mouse on lfs iv found.

Back in the days when I didn't have the G25 I used
Mouse 1 - Throttle
Mouse 2 - Brakes
Mouse X - Steering
A - Shift up
Z - Shift down
C - Clutch
X - Ignition
And that felt like the most obvious for me but it's different for different people.

I would suggest using mouse 1 for throttle and mouse 2 for braking unless you have a steering wheel. You can adjust how fast the pedals should respond to your clicking which gives you a decent ammount of smoothness. Braking however is something you cannot control as easily with a button but you can lower the braking force to give you less wheel locking and more controll. And you can also use ABS in certain cars.
Back to the topic though: I cannot see how the scroller would be an efficient way of controlling the pedals. Even the mouse Y axis would be the better choise if you ask me.

+1 Anything with a V8 that isn't formula 1 would add nicely to LFS. Either a road car or an LX8.

Quote from e2mustang :just gimme a frikkin hi-poly rb4 !

+1 RB4 is a nice car but needs smoother edges and such.

Quote from Swobber :+1 for slicks.
Not some crazy wide ones, but just a tad bit better than the street tyres used now.

+1 for slicks on any car.

Quote from Jonathon.provost :But the problem with the dds ones NO ONE CAN SEE THEM BUT U!!!
Also sometimes racers want a brake from racing so the go cruising.
And its not a pure racing sim its a better relaxed one where people can come and have a bit of fun away from the pure sims like iRacing. although iRacing is fun when it gets close

Actually that's incorrect. Not only you can see the DDS files. Everyone who got the DDS files can see the DDS files so if the majority of the cruisers have modified DDS files then that problem is solved. And you can always have 2 copys of LFS installed at once. One where you do racing and one where you do cruising and have cruising related mods.

about passengers; what ^ said. Make a custom view, move it to the passenger side. Press tab until you're in the car of the friend you want to watch. You can also activated mouse XY panning so you can look around using the mouse.

About the more tracks part. You think going on the forum and asking for more tracks is going to get you more tracks when you haven't even payed for the game? If you want more stuff, buy the game. You're lucky to even have a demo version to play on. You should be greatful.

edit: Oh and with better graphics comes more nutheads. Just saying.

Quote from Speed Senna :needing show a middle finger in Sim?

I don't know about that but a function to transform the car into a big robot that can fly in space would be a nice feature. Anyone agree?

Edit: This topic is too far off track already though xD So I think we can assume that putting children into the racing cars is a bad idea. Next.

Interesting. I can imagine AI after AI roll over after the second jump on the blackwood rally cross piling up on the grass

All though, I agree. This would be a cool feature which would force drivers to be more carefull when blasting over the jumps landing sideways at full speed.

Only if you could launch the kids out the front windscreen when crashing. Then I would back this one up completely!

I don't want the gear shiftings to have a delay of 350 ms though

I think it's a good idea. Make the strobes orange and suddenly it won't be cruise related unless people who want to use it in cruising purposes get some blue/red DDS files for it. It's not unrealistic for a racing simulator and it shouldn't be too complicated to add either. Also add some admin controll over the function so that not a bunch of people drive around with strobe lights on the roof :P

Quote from Mr_Lonely :we dont need that animation live,

but it would be great if it could be in replays..

cuz the only time u really need that kind of animations is in movies for the realism..

True. Then the whole problem about the moving the hand to shifter delay will be fixed too.

Quote from Flame CZE :But what about when I would like to change gear while idling or at e.g. 2000 RPM and I will be changing gears very quickly. That won't work.

Agree. And how about downshifts, how would those be predicted? I mean come on, you have your own set of hands with real life super-graphics right in front of you. Why would you need a second set inside of the monitor? If the actual shifting is going to be delayed then that would suck so bad. If you're adding such an effect, at least make the actual shifting instant and let the animation lag behind.

Just get the "Universal Rev bouncer"
It works awesomely for that type of fuel cut limiter

For the ignition cut limiters, maybe LFS should get backfires first. Would be a good first step.

Or some kind of app that reduce the throttle once the desired speed is achieved. Or yea, you simply don't put the pedal to the metal.

I would like this to be implemented but as an optional setting. In real the head's got a built in "view stabilizer". Try looking at something while rolling your head. You'll still always experience the vertical axis of your environment as the vertical axis of your view. That's why I think it's a good thing.

On the other hand, I do like it when my steering wheel and all my other gear is synced and leveled with the in game car. So I'd say; add it but make it optional.
