Quote from Victor :...Under normal use, noone has the need for more than one copy of LFS. But, with patch testing for example you need a second folder at least....

The die-hard 7zip version we were speaking about could come handy here.

Quote from TiJay :...How do you install the hires stuff by the way?...

Yes.
I've downloaded and unzipped in the main Targa track folder the following files:
  • calta_rock_HR.7z
  • Cronotower_HR.7z
  • Stefano_historically_correct_car_addon.7z
  • targa.3do_HR_version_WithSound.7z
  • targa_horiz_2048x1024_HR.7z

Quote from 5haz :Finally finished a lap (in a 3 litre car, the Brabham, I wouldn't recomend driving the big cars, I crashed about 20 times), the track is a masterpiece! Its great when you come down from the mountains and can see the sea wide open ahed of you, its probrably the first GPL track that is actually beautiful.

Exactly!!
First time I saw the sea my jaw dropped! It's marvellous.
You downloaded the HiRes Targa and its addons, didn't you ?
Ginetto, one of the track's authors, prefers to run it with the cars included in the 1965 mod, less powerful, more forgiving and easier to drive in general...

Quote from Dajmin :There's millions of links here and the info seems to be a bit conflicting.
I don't have any existing copy of GPL, no downloaded demo or a disc. Can someone just post links to all of the files I need so I can get my mod on?

Yes, some links in that wiki are old/outdated, that was confusing to me, too.
GPL CD is required, sorry. Buy one, it's cheap!

Install GEM+, run it to see if everything works: http://gem.ebi-service.de/downloads.html
Install the 67-update: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4875
(Now install any mod/carset you like (65, 66, 69 available afaik) and download the latest updates)
...

In the 67-update zip there is the 1.3 patch and a fundamental update to GEM+. Replace your GEM+ exe with this one.
If you plan to install mods, create a player for each mod, say Ripley65, Ripley66, and so on...
Mods available are 65, 66, 69 and Thunder Cars. Each has its "long track" support patch, all downloadable from
http://gpltd.bcsims.com/

Many more info here
http://gplmz.bcsims.com/index.php?showforum=84

If all this sounds a bit confusing, GPL came out in 1998, that's why, simple as that!
But there are many other mods in the works, community still rocks at SRMZ, there's a lot of add-ons, TrackIR support, G25 support, future DFGT and G27 (promised) support (see here http://jsj.proboards.com/index ... on=display&thread=174) real-time on-screen race data, tons of tracks, setups, online races and chat lobby...just name it, you've got it!

Here is a link to the Targa Trainer, lets you start from different track locations for training. Avira Free finds a false positive on this, but file is sure clean.

Ok, ok, now I've read all the thread, I'll try to do my best....

Grand Prix Legends (GPL) IS picky.
During install, and before adding mods, make whole-folder backups in between 'cause you could mess it up.

I recently bought GPL and have been thoroughly looking for some install guides on the web, and just as you've found out, situation is a bit confusing (at least, for GPL newbies). I also found many outdated guides or websites, even by years, so I wrote one myself, after few days spent searching for info.

My WinXP oriented GPL install guide contains 2 news, 1 good and 1 bad.
The good one is that it has a full sequence of step-by-step updated links from top to bottom, and each install step is commented and detailed.
The bad one is that it is written in Italian ;-)
I link it here, to your deep pleasure. I could think myself of translating it into English one day...maybe. Or you could start studying Italian.
It only looks difficult, but it's not, just follow the links in the same order as they appear, and you'll be sent to the relevant webpages, or forums articles, where you can read instructions in English.
Of course, you need an original GPL CD in the drive, there are links up here this thread to where to buy it.

GPL Install Guide

I'll come up later to better explain some steps of this guide.

Yes, it checks the presence of the original CD in the drive.
And you don't need to install GPL first, just insert CD and run the correct "Maximum Versions 0.97" installer for your GPL language (at least, I did so).

@ EliteAti
GPL install default is F1 1967 season.
Targa Florio (and other "long" circuits) breaks the original graphics engine limits, so you'll need to apply a specific 1967 patch that adds support to long tracks.

You can find it here
http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4875
File inside the zip is 1967_PATCH_v1.3_Setup.exe
Don't bother with GEMP2.EXE for now.

Each mod ('65, '66, '69, etc...) has its "long track" patch.

This site has everything GPL related
http://gpltd.bcsims.com/

Have to go out now.
In a few hours I'll give you support if needed.

@ BlueFlame
much nicer now

Some GPL copies available here:

I bought GPL only for this.

I have a question, concerning your Forma video...is the asphalt also reflecting?? Around 3.28 - 3.36...I don't get it, is it the "rain" filter you wrote about, or is it the RP reflections ?

Quote from freddyalek90 :Works ok in Italian, but I've noticed some mistakes with the translation.
For example:

"Per usare questo software, devi accettare le seguenti condizioni :"
should be
"Per usare questo software, deve accettare le seguenti condizioni:"....

C'mon...You're not talking to your 80years old Aunt anyway!!
Are you sure it should really sound that formal??

Otherwise Devs should also change the installer splash screen text, where it reads:

"Questo programma ti guiderà durante il processo di installazione..."
into
"Questo programma la guiderà durante il processo di installazione..."

Edit1: for non-italians the difference spotted by freddyalek is between the "friendly" you and the "polite" you (singular).
The former is found in unformal speech, or directed to friends, relatives, buddies, whatever. The latter is a kind of respect you show towards unknown people, elder people, Not-LFSers in general...

Edit2: OTOH, on the License Agreement page, I'd change:
