If you don't want to spend the dosh on a G25, the DFP is the next best thing. Still a nice peice of kit.

Probably won't pick one up, at least not for a long time. My PC & PS2 satisfy my gaming needs perfectly fine.

Daves sample set definately sound better than the ingame one, to be honest Race doesn't sound as good as LFS when you use CSR/DaveWS's pack. Can't get enough of the XFR, and FXO

The drivers on the CD work with Vista, I was definately using my G25 in LFS under Vista a couple of weeks back. I think I had to have it unplugged at boot for the profiler to recognise it though. Can't remeber if I had to use the compatability mode or not.

To those of you saying LCD's still don't match a CRT for gaming..I have a 19" Sony sitting on my desk proving you wrong. It was actually my 2nd purchase, at first I got a cheap 19", but two days later returned it and put the extra dosh in. The colours look just as natural as my old CRT, the picture looks sharper, and it doesn't have a noticable ghost affect like cheap ones do.

Wish I could play GT4 on this screen..but only DVI/VGA inputs

Bit windy..bit of an understatement for how its been down here recently. Although I thought it wasn't too bad today compared to last weekend

Cars are normally just an it to me, but I've been known to try and sweet talk it when I need that bit more speed..

I'd like to add the Peugeot 206 is a feminie car, as well as the Ford Ka. The MX5 is definately a girly car, because I barely fit in the damn thing!

Played a PS2 on a projector quite a bit, the results were better than I was expecting. Burnout Revenge split screen is great fun on one

For £50 a 6600GT will be a massive upgrade from a GF2. I have one in my other system, great cards for the price.

You can drift a FWD easy enough, last time I drove an old Escort on gravel it was fun throwing it sideways. Wouldn't call it a powerslide though, it'd straighten out if you just floored it.

A friends Ford Fiesta has the rear step out an alarmingly large amount as well on damp roads. Bit concerning, shes only had the licence two weeks and doesn't even know what oversteer means. She just thinks its normal for old cars illepall

There's no limit to the number of devices you can use with LFS, the Act Labs stuff is fully supported.

Please do everyone that shares the roads with you a favor, and get off the roads or go get yourself killed without ruining another familys life as well as your own. A bit of spirited driving by yourself is one thing, but putting other peoples lives at risk to feed your own stupid ego..I just hope when your luck runs out, no-one else is involved.

A 1/16 with a .18? Madness, don't them smaller things come with a .10 normally?

The Rush Evo's a pretty good car to start with, drives nicely with only a couple of changes and the engines easy to keep tuned. The HPI MT2's only a few quid more though, and its 4WD..

Yay for thread bumping

You can get a good bargain on a 1:8 buggy at the min, just make sure you stick to big names you can get parts for easily. No good saving £30 on the buggy to end up having to import parts from HK every time it breaks.

Couple of pics of my projects attached. The big truck is my HPI Savage, with a custom conversion to electric brushless done by myself. Uses an 8XL/Mamba Max/14 GP3700 setup. Good for 45mph and will happily lift the front wheels off the ground at 20mph in 2nd gear. That much torque its ate metal gears like they're playdoh. The brightly coloured one is an RC10GT, also converted to brushless. Uses 12 GP3700 cells, Mamba Max/540C 9L motor, its got enough torque to backflip at 40mph if your not careful and tops out 72mph (GPS vertified). All steel/titanium transmission to cope with the extra power compared to them silly nitro engines they came with.

Yes, I am a speed freak

First thing I do is select the class of car. Then normally just look for a populated server on a combo thats mildly interesting. If after all this there's still a choice I'll go for the server I've had the better experience on - normally team servers that are more actively moderated. Not fussed how long the race is really, as long as its under half hour or so.

Ping has to be taken into consideration, but most the servers I connect to are 40-80ms so its rarely a problem.

I'm willing to fork out £20 for a good quality, good looking version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Not exactly suitable for the common 5 min races but would definately be a lot of fun in an organised race.

Every 3-4 months? How many Simbin titles are there, 4? GTR1/2, GTL, Race. "Good luck finding a computer where it can run", are you just shit stirring out of fanboyism or do you really believe that? Runs spot on here and obviously does for a large number of people or there wouldn't be anyone racing online, which is not the case.

GTR2 would be a good purchase if you enjoy GTL - the graphics/sound are a slight improvement, as is the feel of the cars. Plus the Nurburgring is drivable and doesn't look like its still 1998 in both GTR2/GTL which is a good bonus.

I purchased Race:wtcc a few days ago, its actually not bad for £23 but don't expect the same LFS level of feel/realism. Good fun in spite of this - good tracks, pretty good netcode, decent graphics and RWD's that can oversteer without the physics engine packing up and going home unlike past Simbin or ISI or whatever games. The damage engine has a definate impact on your race as well (aero, suspension, bodyparts and mechanical failures are all there). The demo is pretty rubbish though.

Quote from mr_x :I know it's an annoying way of going about it, but from the pit menu click chat. and it should be in there.

there is. you have to assign a key to it. I can't remember what it's called, but look down the controller assignments and you'll find it.

I was playing this game online most of last night from about 9pm until 1am... had loads of good fun racing, everyone's a bit noobish at the minute so I had the occasional shove up the arse, but after all the 'newness' has worn off and people get used to it, this game has HUGE potential online!

Aye I noticed the chat menu thingy this morning, pretty useful but still a pain you can't do more without pitting.

Been playing it the last couple of hours, definately potential there, its not on the same sim level as LFS but its still good fun. Just wish there were more people online, seems theres normally 3-4 packed servers that you can't join because its in a race, and everyone else is on passworded ones.

Just had my first crash (as in, whole game crashes, not an ingame accident), just before the race start. Oh well.

I like the benifits purchasing a game through Steam gives you - it saves me an hours drive each way to the nearest Gamestation, and it saves a few quid (£23 vs £30). Payment by Paypal directly followed by an instant download from a high speed server is nice as well, as is the automatic game updating. But I hate how its necessary to run in the background and the resources it uses. In my book its not as bad as starforce protection but its damned annoying.

The game itself..I like it. Its not as fluid or dynamic as LFS, nor is it as good an online game in many aspects (as far as I can tell there's no way to change you car once connected, no connection list, no ability to share setups ingame, no message history, no way to block messages, no way to have names displayed over the cars, you get the idea), but for the most part the netcode is good and keeps the cars in sync allowing for close racing. You can't join a host mid-race either which is damned annoying, would have thought you should be able to join the host but spectate till the race is over. The loading times are massive compared to LFS as well.

Its hard to judge if it has a natural, connected feeling like LFS does, because i'm on a worn out MS Sidewinder non-FF till my G25 replacement arrives. But the cars respond how you would expect, the RWD can oversteer without the instant spinout Simbin stuff normally has. Pullaways aren't just floor it, and the brakes lock up quite realistically. Doesn't feel as floaty as GTR2, and the damage is something I sorely wish LFS had now - splitters that will come off, tyre punctures, windscreen chips, etc. Its not just cosmetic, damage does affect the way the car handles & drives, sometimes to the point you can't continue the race. Definately fun but not in quite the same way as LFS.

The cockpits, although very pretty, have a MASSIVE fps hit. In cockpit view driving down a road with a couple of cars in view, I get 30-40fps, in the bonnet view, its 70fps+. On a full grid with cockpit ~20fps for a few secs, without its ~30fps. Big big difference. But without the cockpit view I can't figure out how to turn a damned virtual mirror on.

Is a nice looking game though, not as hard on my system as the demo was - I have everything maxed out and my machine isn't exactly the best you can buy. And the tracks are nice - a pleasant break from the LFS ones, Macau in particular is a fun drive with a 20 car grid.

First Simbin title I've purchased, still not entirely sure why - not really got on with the GTR/GTL demos, I thought the Race demo showed potential for a lot of fun if the full version isn't as botched as the demo was. I still think it should be a fun diversion from LFS to avoid a sim burnout.

Stop winding me up, its 2 hours before I can play it :Kick_Can_

Anyone actually racing in the rain online? Could be fun..noticed if the headlights actually light up the road? IIRC they didn't do sod all in the demo.

Guess I'll know in a couple of hours, I'll either be up half the night racing or on here calling it a load of rubbish Do you know roughly how many people are online racing at any given moment, ala LFS World's statistics? Can't find it anywhere in that Stream thingy.

I don't doubt it'll be a lot of fun though, I mean it has working windscreen wipers. Revolutionary

Damnit, I've gone and brought it. Only £23 odd so I figure what the hell. I sure hope the online play and netcode is good, if I want offline play I'll fire up the PS2 99% the time. Bit of variety from LFS never hurts even if the physics aren't as well developed knowing Simbin. Guess I'll know what its like in a few hours once its downloaded.

Plus I love touring cars. I spend 99% of my time in LFS racing tintops anyway.
