Thanks to LFS I've knackered out a joystick, brought 3 wheels, invested in a bigger screen, brought decent headphones, and brought a new desk to better clamp the wheel onto. I also put together a new system last summer (to a £300 budget), not entirely sure why as LFS is the only PC game I still play much and it ran fine on the old system. Looks pretty nice with all the AF/AA turned up though

Quote from jaws99 :Orange broadband.... Probably the worst customer servie in the world

I'm guessing you've not had to phone BT with a problem recently..they'll quite happily send you around departments in circles till someone finally passes you to a "supervisor" who actually knows how to read that flowchart infront of them illepall

Shockingly there is life beyond the Internet you know. I moved house not long ago and it was off for a good week or two. Didn't bother me much TBH, just spent a bit more time in the pub or on the Xbox.

Btw, ISP's often connect it up early and not tell you - try wiring that router up and seeing if you can connect. BT have done this every time I've moved.

Bit more rain, still no snow. Not expecting any at all now. Bit annoying really, had to cancel a trip because the stuff, and yet I get none to play with down here Although theres been that much rain there's some minor water damage to the ceiling in my bedroom, bit concerning.

Nice sunny skies down here, bit of rain last night but thats it.

Apparently theres a couple of inches dropped in Milton Keynes so far. Which is bad, because I was supposed to be traveling up there today. Not so anymore Don't fancy averaging 30mph on a 240 mile trip.

Overall a very nicely written article IMO Not perfect but a good read none the less.

I think perhaps it would have been worth mentioning in the bit about its continuing developing that its planned to be 3 releases, and in spite of purchasing S2 while in alpha you will benifit from additional features/enhancements made as it reaches beta & final releases, which will give it a bit more value for money than what the current product has.

A bit about leagues would have been a nice addition as well - its something I'd like to start doing at some point, and it seems LFS does league racing very well, espically with the communication features of the forum + LFSWorld, and the ability to swap drivers etc.

Once the sounds are finished, I think the final result will be a good selling point as well - communicating to you whats going on and not relying on samples. We're already starting to see what its capable of since other users have started tweaking the engine profiles.

One word: Brilliant Was wondering how long it'd be till you got another soundpack out

Given most the cars a quick blast - small bit of feedback, the LX4 sounds pretty painful (on my setup anyway) at 9000-9300rpm or so. And the FZ5 sounds a bit flat. But otherwise they sound great

r4ptor: Tried setting the overall sound slider lower as recommended and boosting the skid sounds? I can hear the tyres fine.

LFS of course, but on the console Enthusia has the best physics IMO. All the non-driving stuff was poorly done but once you get into a race it feels very nice.

rFactor feels pretty realistic with the lupo mod IMO. Have to try some more that were suggested on here a few weeks ago.

I'm quite liking Forza at the min, its not LFS-level realism but its a very good game and feels a lot better than GT4. Has a pretty version of the 'ring too, and the damage is nice.

My shifter broke way back in December, I phoned Logi, they said I'd have a new unit out in 2-3 weeks, simply cut the plugs off the old one once it arrives and post them to the address given. The guy mentioned they was out of UK units so I opted to have a euro unit and just retain my current power cable, I was assured the unit would be here quicker by doing this.

Still waiting for the damn thing, not had any contact from Logi since that phonecall. Infact I think its time to phone them again and see whats going on, now my phones working again.

The Maserati looks a bit like a Volvo from the back?

No question, my vote goes for the DB9. Its much more pleasing to look at, and even more so IRL, which is a fairly common sight where I used to live (Newport Pagnell/MK).

I use a years old version of Partition Magic, does the job flawlessly as long as your HD's healthy. I always re-format the / & swap partitions using the distro's installer though.

Personally I dual boot Fedora Core 6/XP, but as wireless support under Linux is so borked at the min I never use it anymore. Its a Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card (F5D7000) if anyone has experience in getting this damned thing to work.

Neither does TDU I built my base unit to a £300 budget last summer and I get a solid 35-40FPS with everything up high expect HDR. That goes to over 50fps if I drop to 1024x768.

I'll be buying it on its release - I've already had many hours of fun with it, hopefully once more bugs are squashed and its publically released it'll be even better. They really need to fix some big problems though - I only get sound (except chat) in the left channel, somethings everything doesn't render right and you need to restart or alt-tab a couple of times, the way lighting affects the dashboard is pretty daft, and the overall feeling it could be further optimized.

I was expecting a lot worse, as I'm going through two wireless connections bridged together, with the source being in my sisters flat down the other end of the building.

Sorry to hear about your cat mate. Why the heck would someone wanna shoot such a harmless animal illepall

I lost 2 last year, they were both 3 years old as well. One just went out one day and never turned up again, didn't turn up at a vets or anywhere either. The other one got hit by a car

Each to their own - I think if they can sort out the worst of the bugs & the online play so you can be connected to more than 8 players, and so that 7 out of the 8 don't lag too badly to race with, they're onto a winner. I've spent more time in TDU over the past few weeks than I have in any other game, and love it.

Does feel like they cheaped out on the road mappings a bit though, recent NFS titles have smoother elevation changes. The snap-oversteer resulting in an instant spinout if your not prepared for it is pretty annoying too.

Few months? Your build won't work then, it'd be one of the closed beta builds.

Sounds like Fileplanet are having issues at the min..

No demo, an open beta. Have a look on Fileplanet.com, you need a free account to register for it.

The whole game is there though, which means a 3.5GB download.

Its a brilliant game IMO, car handling is pretty good - and wheel support is very good, full G25 support. Visually its impressive, although the sounds only coming out my left channel in the current build.

I average 35-40FPS ingame with 1280x1024 on High quality with HDR off, AA off and 2x AF. This is on an Athlon 3400 @ 2.4Ghz, Nvidia 7600GT @ 620/1.52ghz, 1GB dual-channel RAM. Pretty steep requirements IMO. It looks great, but the FPS is 1/3 what I get on average in LFS.

Do you mean you can't get past the validation code on the screen before the one with links to the download, forum, the serial key etc? Try clicking the button instead of pressing enter once you've entered the validation code.

If you really get stuck I have a spare key - I was in the closed beta and still use that key, I got one on my free account too.

Aye burnout 3 & 4 are easily the best multiplayer racing games for console. Some people complain it hurts their eyes after a while though illepall Revenge is a great title for a couple of quid if you like the 3rd one.

I did a similar thing recently - picked one up dirt cheap, so far been enjoying PGR2 the most. Its the perfect balacne of semi-realistic racing for a console IMO. Looks good too.

Forza I'm undecided on - its a fun game and more realistic in many ways than GT4 - I'd say its them most realistic console sim except perhaps Enthusia, but has a crappy tyre heat implimentation, runs at a lower framerate than most racing games (locked at 30fps or so?), some of the tracks like silverstone have a pretty overdone fog affect so you can't see the next corner coming up, and the Xbox controller isn't very good for it. Had to switch to using both analog sticks PS2 style to get anywhere. Forza's version of the 'ring looks great though.

Burnout Revenge is a brilliant title IMO, its not semi-sim or anywhere near it but its great fun in a completely different way. The multiplayer works very well too.

Also picked up Juiced & CM2005, both suffer from crappy gameplay, and cars have the floating feeling.

I have encryption enabled in Azureus, but it doesn't seem to make a whole load of difference. It'll normally pull the latest Linux distro or game mod at full speed then come 6pm or so and its down to 30kb/s and stays there. Damn BT

Quote from Bean0 :Tried enabling encryption ?

I know it helps me get around Pipex's capping to get my...erm...Linux ISOs down more quickly
