To be honest, I don't ever want to see dynamic conditions except for when there are multiple cars on the track, or if you want them there.
There needs to be a way to directly compare yourself to other drivers, share setups and further develop them in stable conditions, and have a way to have a track record that isn't set by getting lucky and randomly having ideal conditions.
When lap records are set there are usually lots of people out there on the same day in the same ideal conditions. This doesn't happen in simracing because everyone isn't in Australia one weekend and Singapore the next..they're on their computer whenever they want to be.
During races and open practice etc I think it would be pretty neat I guess.
I agree the damage is way exaggerated atm...especially in the closed fender cars.
However its better imo to have it more exaggerated until you get a better damage model in place then something like LFS where you can bounce open wheel cars off the wall repeatedly to no ill effect.
I'm having trouble however....I'm not so much worried about how quick I can go, but rather how sideways I can get and for how long
I haven't done any oval racing higher than latemodel stuff, and I must say I suck quite a bit. I can mimick videos pretty well, but it seems like the oval community is a bit more protective of setups...
Day 1 of the track change and theres multiple setups posted in the road car forums...zilch in the COT forum that I can find.
I know the default sets are capable of way faster than I'm going (16.15 I think was the best in my last TT).
it is pretty annoying imo...I hope they streamline is soon. At least you can do the test window so you can drive anything without changing series. It would be nice to have a "road race" and an "oval race" tab...hmmm to the feedback section!
It would be nice to have a more physical or at least accurate line of where you can be and not be "cutting" the corner.
FWIW, I don't know about irl, but in the Nascar races they cut the final hairpin heavily into the paint and right up next to the tires...we need tires in the irl course.
What you say about the laser scanned tracks is true up to a point for me.
If it is THE laguna seca, then I do care if that pothole is right there in the right spot. Especially since laser scanning is not just about bumps and holes. It gives slight variations in pitch and camber that really authenticates the experience. Plus those nasty bumps or crests in turns that get you loose every time.
After iracing real life tracks in sims are judged to a different level.
If they are fantasy tracks, then sure..make them how you wish. However the bumps at South city in the sim don't give the same feel as the bumps in iracing. I don't know if this is a difference in the bumps or the engine itself, but I greatly prefer the feel of iracing.
With a stable setup, the radical is the best car to introduce anyone to iracing atm. My grandpa after 30 minutes was doing lap after lap around watkins glen in the radical. It took him a while to get used to shifting and braking, and after he got the controls down I was really impressed.
Its very easy to drive under the limit, whereas some cars like the mazda and skippy will still spin even if you're at 7/10ths just because you aren't driving the setup properly.
Once you push the radical to 11/10ths like it needs to be its not easy anymore, but its so much fun amidst the frustration.
I think the month is a normal month subscription except you get the radical too...which is unfair but awesome for the new guys :].
First thing I'd do is practice until you aren't crashing every other turn. Then choose the series you want to be a part of. You're rookie, so solstice or legend car, and then go to the select sessions button on top. Once there choose open practice with other people there and have some fun.
There is so much wrong in this thread I don't know where to start.
First off, the iracing guys love the plebs that join up...its not elitist or exclusive, and they're all very welcoming and responsive on the forums. You also frequently see the staff in the online sessions duking it out with the "plebs" and bsing on the forum.
Second, any form of credit card will work...from prepaid visas to debit cards.
Third, they are not greedy when asking for a credit card on signup. The credit cards are how your identity is formed within the sim. Real names are used both in the sim and on the forums, and credit cards ensure that a real identity is used. They also probably want potential customers, and not potential people trying to get multiple free trials. Without a credit card someone could easily sign up many times.
I think thats the majority of the errors I read when skimming the thread lol. I hope everyone enjoys it...always need more people
you know I looked at them for quite some time...and I just don't think it'd be a big enough improvement to really justify a purchase. I would bank on that the CST's are going to be above and beyond what I can imagine...seeing as how everyone says they're the best available and makes the g25 pedals feel like old plastic logitech ones. That and hanging pedals really intrigue me.
Still not sure if I'm going to spring for them though. The 6 week wait is playing a big part in my decision...I don't really want to wait that long. Also, I want to make sure the money actually makes it into the bank before I dedicate a huge chunk towards something like that.
full tilt. I'm gonna move over to cake once my withdrawals go through. I got 3rd or 4th in a donkament for $1100 and ran it up a little more. Full tilt found my 2nd account I had after I tried to withdraw and quickly ended that...so I lost rakeback. Cake is a super small site, but has 33% rakeback and another bonus to clear.
