I had a 45 minute mazda race where we were nose to tail 1st - 3rd for the first 8 or so laps, then I battled with 2nd place nose to tail for the rest of the time.
At the end our average lap time was the same to the thousandth...The draft really sucks these cars up..its hard to pull away for sure.
It really depends on the other people around you, and how confident you are driving that close to someone.
The adjustment bumped me to 4.01 oval lol. I have done a few test sessions at daytona with the rolling brick of tomorrow and it really just isn't that fun. You drive around alone wide out...or you hook up with a draft wide open and then wreck two laps later. Its really just not interesting to me. Lowes was way more of a challenge and was actually exciting. I could see how you could get into ovals where you actually had to drive...not this.
Try the advanced set with a soft front ARB and no rear ARB. That should help you learn the car and keep it on the track. If that doesn't work for ya let us know :]
The SR is definitely not too easy. It is darwinism at its finest. I've seen people at daytona losing .99 SR in one race at A level. There are people getting 5-10 incidents at sebring with B and A licenses and taking their licks too...they won't last long with races like those.
Btw the mazda shouldn't have been changed this build.
I'm having fun...and steadily improving my setup. I watched a Boris Said lap in the old car and the driving experience was extremely identical. He ran a 1:17.8 "same as the leader." I don't know how the new car compares to the old one, all I know is its fun .
The hd should be up soon hopefully, it isn't available right away.
Just looked up last year's time...Kahne was pole with a 1:17.74. We can throw it around a bit harder than they can :]
There are frequently close up shots where you can see the butterfly's on the intake opening and closing..some drivers are on/off..others are smooth at rolling back into the throttle, even carrying part throttle for a ways. No its not a focus, and no..in a normal run you don't have to do anything but not crash and cut a good light.
I honestly don't even know what the argument is even about anymore.
There is no way to actually measure the horsepower because there is no dyno strong enough to hold up during a test. Its always just been an estimate. Imo at that amount a horsepower rating really doesn't mean all that much...when you have enough power to cause an earthquake I really don't think a HP number matters anymore.
yeah its just been a super rough season for me...I've basically just not done anything online...and every time I do my sr drops.
I mean I wouldn't be so upset if it didn't put me in a position not to be promoted...I'm a bit more calm about it now lol, I guess I'll just do some rookie or skippy races, maybe a few more mazda sessions. I don't even know if what I've done in the mazda is enough to be promoted. I'll probably put in some TT just to make sure. I've joined quite a few but haven't exactly finished them >.>
After all this bitching and moaning I can't help but love the sim still...I just can't wait for the DP, I hope its as good as I am expecting. Even how horrible my race went it was one of the funnest races I've been in for a long time. I finally found a circuit and tweaked a setup to fit me, and I'm not worried about being farther off of pole than I can be in other cars.
The only part that I really dislike is the length of the races. The only time I've had 45 minute races is in the bigger league races I was in. I am so not used to driving for 45 minutes or even an hour+. I am losing interest the higher I get in the sim because I just don't want to race that long.
I just got ****ing lowered from 3.05 to 2.50 because two ****ing D class drivers can't drive worth shit.
I'm on the outside of one and they spin into me 4 IC
Second guy I'm following for 2 laps while he is making mistakes and weaving all over..he misses the turn in for this hair pin, goes way wide...I follow my normal line which is 1.5 car widths between us, and he turns straight down in front of me.
Goddamnit I hate this shit. I don't even want to race again, but now I have to grind my goddamn safety rating up to 3.0. This is going to take for ****ing ever and I only have 2.5 weeks to do it.
Oh, also I got black flagged after all this with 8 to go because I clipped the white line on the inside of the bend going towards the S/F at silverstone...The slow down warning didn't even come up until I hit the S/F...at which point it D/Qs me.
The setups are awesome. It actually drives like a real car...I got into some high speed slides that didn't result in instant snap spins, and the car was much more progressive in nature.
I still can't race like I used to, I just don't do it enough anymore. No setup can help that. That's why I'm really hoping the new cars are released soon...need something to really spark my interest again.
The mazda is not progressive at all in oversteering, or regaining traction. If you were to turn inward as fast as you could you'd likely just turn off the track.
There's not really time to do it if you get in a slide either as they don't last very long, and the front end still has loads of grip.
anyone seen the vid where hammond was in the F1 car? You can't drive them at a slow or moderate pace...the tires never heat up and you never generate downforce...you understeer into the wall.
Sure, if things go right in a run its just hold on...
However, things often times don't go right. If you're not an active participant in the run you're going to hit the wall, and hit it hard...
You have to be really good in a really short amount of time.
Also, like was brought up "pedal fests" are won by the driver with the most car control.
Top fuel, like F1, is just an exercise in engineering anymore...but both take huge amount of skill, and are extremely dangerous to the driver in both sports.
I don't feel like arguing the point anymore...but I'm tired of reading why you think you're so great at drag racing, and its such a simple and easy sport because you take your civic and do 15 second passes once a year.
I drove for like an hour around summit point...and I felt like I was doing pretty good crashing about every few laps.
The mazda is part of the reason why I just haven't raced that much...I can't get into it. I watch videos of what the other guys are doing and it looks like we're driving different cars.
I've never felt this way about a sim before, and its really frustrating.
Also, there is the problem that the car never feels like I'm going as fast as possible. I ran a 1:05.6 I think it was...not terrible, a few tenths slower than I normally am off pole. I feel like I'm hugely off pace and I don't even want to race.
Well..mostly its the fact that I spin for god knows what reason every few laps and I couldn't imagine stringing 30 in a row. I countersteer and it snaps the other way. I don't countersteer and it still snaps the other way. The car doesn't really have an oversteer threshold..it goes into a 4 wheel skid like it loses downforce or something and then I countersteer, front end regains grip, and I snap spin the other way.
I can't wait to try something like the DP or the corvette...get away from these twitchy snappy unforgiving (unfun) cars.
If you just want to get around the track then sure, its as easy as driving slowly around a road course...If you want to go as fast as possible, be ready to spend a longgggg time testing and tweaking setups. All I read from oval guys is how much they test and try new things...its pretty competitive over there.
I never raced ovals before iracing...and they're fun, and the racing is very good. However, not so great that I'm gonna go buy everything
1. somewhat cool, you're reading way too much into my post...using it for what you want.
2. I'm saying he's the primary funding behind the project. $20 million is not a big deal to him. He races actively in the service...he's doing this because he wants to. Its not going to disappear in 3 years like people say because of a lack of income. How many times have I heard that we shouldn't be bothered by the SNAIL ****ING PACE lfs is developed because theres only 3 people making it with no money. Thats not my fault! This is the first and probably only time I'll jab lfs for that reason. I paid my money, and I'm extremely satisfied with the program. Same with iracing.
3. Lol no. Never did I criticize anyone. I said it was too bad if you can't afford it. I was lucky enough to get a $250 scholarship in check form...silly them.
4. It was said previously prices may change, but the subscription model won't. Its as simple as I said, use it or not, no one is forcing you.
5. I don't care what the **** its called...game, sim, waste of time money and resources WHATEVER. Its fun and I enjoy it.
And yet again, I never called anyone cheap. Stop putting words in my mouth.
I can't go to the store and demand to only pay $35 for a $50 item. I can't call my magazine subscription and tell them I'm only going to pay $1 an issue instead of $2. This is no different. Its a game, and a service. It has a price. You either pay it, or you don't use the service.
