Quote from skstibi :lol.. Umm. I would not have my clutch in my real car overheat while doing doughnuts. I just did it in LFS and my clutch went out And no.. I was not clutch kicking the entire time.

if the tire's grip overcomes the clutch's ability to keep friction with the flywheel, then I suppose it would start slipping...although it is a bit rough for that to happen when on hard street tires...

or at least this is my best guess (it happened to me too)

it takes a good afternoon (leisurely, alcohol inhibited/enhanced afternoon) to change a clutch

The pits won't be able to do anything

Clutch heat is the only thing implemented, not damage...so I suppose heating up and cooling off is possible at the moment, although it takes a very long time to cool down, making it essentially race ending if you heat it up too much.

OH SNAP

probably played it at a friend's house since we aren't supposed to accuse of pirating the game on the forums

Quote from Shotglass :the odd thing is its the same for the fo8 which seems fishy on a full blown formula

and the fox...the fox kinda got killed for me, or atleast my lap times. I haven't done a real comparison yet as I didn't have my wheel out, but with it being such a low horsepower engine it struggles when it falls down so low into the powerband. I noticed a pretty harsh hit to the end-straight mph. You now have to shift it at like 7200 with a 7040 horsepower peak. It only starts pulling 7k-8k I would shift at like 8300 pre x-30.

The new engine sound is playing tricks with me as well. I'm hitting the rev limiter constantly because I think the rpm is lower than it really is :X

aaaaaaagh you killed the fox

the powerband feels different, and the rev limiter is set like 200 rpm after horsepower peak..and the shift light (7k) and I hit it constantly. The old fox just starts to run at 7k to 8k, now you fall down to no horsepower on every shift, and you don't get the top end you used to. Not only do I need all new gear ratios, but it seems the fox will never be quite as fast as it used to be

if you yank hard enough you could pull the trans out of gear in theory...wouldn't want to...but you could.

putting it in gear at full throttle would be kinda horrible though

I was taught pretty much never to touch the shifter w/o the clutch engaged..common sense really if you understand how the drive train works. Its a pain in the ass teaching someone to drive stick who doesn't know how cars work :X I said I'd teach them how to drive stick not what an RPM was :banghead:

the rev limiter is more like a racing chip rather than a fuel cutoff used in road cars. In the road cars, imo, it should hit cutoff, drop 300 rpm or so w/o ignition, then accelerate again. The rev limiter here is more like the ignition chips we use in our drag cars. They are probably what would be used in the racing cars.

The clutch seems to get pretty hot just from a normal takeoff. I was very easy on the clutch taking off, and I couldn't get a launch w/o heating the clutch. Now, I might be misinterpreting the damage meter, but any color in the clutch bar is bad right? (btw I have a g25 so I could modulate the gas and clutch like I normally would).

I think it would be cool to make it harder to launch the cars like someone suggested. It does seem like the lower horsepower cars are too hard to stall. However, with this clutch damage model I think they would fry the clutch just trying to move.

Also, I found that I could powershift, flatshift, whatever you wanna call it (clutch kick too) without penalty, or a very small one at that. I'm not sure how much it would damage the clutch, but in the future there should be some transmission damage to give a larger penalty to this.

I love the new racing line. It'll give me a lot more confidence to join servers on tracks I'm not 100% familiar with and feel like I won't be in the way

I'll probably have more soon, but this is all I have time for......finals week is approaching and I still have projects to do before I can study for them

Also, I'm really starting to feel the need for smell-o-speed where you fry your clutch and the lovely smell of burnt clutch dust comes wofting into the room

the point is to keep you from cheating

like in the circle...you can easily just floor the last 1/4 of the circle and get an awesome time...but you'll definitely hit a cone

test drive unlimited did this very well...I guess it wasn't a total failure of a game

anyways, when you reach like 300 rpm before the shift point, you guy puts his hand down on the shifter in anticipation...not much unlike you would do when racing. if the rpm drops back down you put your hand back on the wheel, then when you shift...you shift.

Quote from Bob Smith :Well you'd have to ask whoever is going to write it, but there are way more values sitting there than have ever been made available in editors, I'm rather flummoxed as to why they've never been included. The structure has hardly changed since the first S2 release either (I've not checked further back). It's not like people haven't had the time.

Quote from tristancliffe :What did the timing beacons damage on the car to cause that?

And what a stupid place to put timing beacons that have the potential to destroy a car like that...

The timing cone was irrelevant to Force's crash. The cars were goin 300+ at that point, and the cone had no possible way to move fast enough to the side to hit John's car. John had a massive frame failure...read ripped in half...and basically had 0 protection between him and the ground. He is lucky to be alive.

Quote from Whisper :I'm sure I'd feel better about braking later at a track like Laguna Seca or something, where there's plenty of space to go off onto if you miss the turn. PR is kind of sketchy in that regard. It doesn't have walls, but it has woods and hills. In the two major turns you can't even really see any ground past the edge of the track, so if you go off, you're gonna be flying and rolling to all sorts of death. And the back straight ends with a small hill crest that catapults you off the track and flips you if you don't take it right or brake at the wrong time. There are also some patches of the pavement that isn't in the best shape. I think they'll be re-paving it by next year.

When the motorcycle guys come to race on it that has to be even scarier, though.

A pretty fun track, though, I'll give it that. They let you rent some faster cars for lap days, I might try that.

laguna seca's runoffs can do all sorts of aweful things to your car

Just because they aren't walls doesn't mean they can't hurt, very badly

I raced gokarts for 5 years before I got my licence. I am a drag racing regular now, but have been itching to do any kind of road racing for a long time now. I miss the chance to just go out and get in a rhythm and drive some laps. Its hard to find something to replace that feeling...a total mind wash, not thinkin about anything but driving

strange how relaxing it can get :/

Thanks for the pic of the tire thing, I only ever knew what the colors on top, and tire load meant I guess haha
Tire pressure

I'm not sure if this is done already, but I don't think so.

As a tire heat cycles, the pressure inside increases and decreases. The hotter the tire gets, the more the pressure goes up. Atm I believe the pressure just stays at what you set it in the garage. It would bring a whole new level to tire care and car tuning, as well as making the first lap or two more interesting. Warming your tires up serves two purposes, making the rubber hotter, but also making the pressure go up to the proper level.

I know some people will think this is a waste of time, but go get a drift setup and go play around a bit. It will teach you very quickly what to look/listen for when playing this game mid turn. It helped me a lot to keep the car on the track during races when I either get a fit of oversteer mid turn, or someone decides to ram into the back of me. There is nothing worse than spinning off the track because you lose it in the turn

ok...I have grown up at drag strips, and have been racing for years now. I have been to multiple tracks, in multiple states. The way it works is a water box > burnout > stage > go. The stuff they spray on the ground COMES OUT OF A HOSE. And no, some cars with 800 hp might not need the water, but even top fuel with thousands of horsepower uses water in the water box.

Tires are not cheap. You do not want them trying to grip when you first start doing a burn out or you will wear them out faster. And also, if that car with 800 hp doesn't spin off the line after a burnout, chances are the tires are large and sticky enough for it to almost grip off the line without a burnout.

Hey guys, this might be an interesting request...but I have a friend that lives 8 hours away and wants to get into racing. I have been racing for 7 years now, and he just randomly tells me today he's interested in trying it. He has a new 07 civic, not a ricer...just got a commuter car, and knows how to drive a manual. However, he has never driven it...aggressively. I'm trying to explain, however I can't find a good video showing how to shift quickly, and explaining it over a chat program is difficult. So far I have shown him a good video of power shifting, and I told him do the same thing, just lift when he shifts. (doesn't need to void the warranty goin out power shifting his new car)

So possibly a video, or a better description would be awesome. I already showed him this video to warn him about downshifting instead of upshifting

Quote from BlueFlame :Thats not Water lol, its Grip Juice...
My Dad and 2 of his Brothers were/are drag racers, and alot of our family friends are too, Im not sure of its compound, but its adds stickyness to the tires, but is thin enough not to cause drag, thats why you will see lower powered cars drive around the Juice, because their cars aren't powerful enough to use it effectively

It is water in the water box. You pull into the water and through it and do a burn out. The water helps the tires to start spinning.
