This will bring more money, people, and more importance to iracing. Think of the publicity this is going to get. I think this is going to carry a lot of momentum behind it and really carry iracing to the next level. It won't be instantly, but hopefully this will show a shift in pace a little. Its going very quickly as it is...but more stuff = more fun :]
There was an iracing staff post that the Lotus is drivable and very fun. It should be out next season. None of it was official however...but I'd imagine he'd get in loads of trouble for saying something like that without it happening.
I'm kinda bummed about the oval side though. I went from 4.10 to 2.6 in promotion...B license.
I don't really oval race at all, but I want to get A licensed in both so I can do whatever I want. I don't race at all as it is...just testing and practice. I really don't see any way that I'm going to get a 2.6 SR to 4.0 to do time trials in the impala...and I don't have any desire to drive the B impala
Run the SRF at watkins if you don't think close racing is possible. You can bump and rub and get really aggressive really close in these things and get nothing more than 0x contact. I slam drafted one guy pretty good down the back straight and it worked really well until he lifed for the guy in front of him I was goin about 4 mph quicker and really didn't want to lift
The biggest fear for close racing in iracing is the damage. It is so easy to damage your car to the point of being way out of control. The SRF finally gives you the ability to bump a little.
That being said...I've been a few inches away lap after lap in the skippy and the mazda. It just takes confidence in yourself AND the other person you're racing with.
It is very similar and yet extremely dissimilar to the skippy at the same time. You don't really want to slide this thing around. It has an open differential...and its effected even worse from it than the skippy is. I think the lack of power makes you unable to really hang a high speed slide in this thing. The first corner of Sebring I spun out every time until about the 10th lap.
It is very fun though! I think the skippy is way easier to drive. This car doesn't let you get away with as much nonsense as you can in the skippy. This car actually requires some precision whereas the skippy is just get it sideways and you'll be ok lol. I think they could switch the skippy to rookie class and the SRF to D class based on first impressions tbh...but its fine like this too.
People are definitely going to bitch when the fast guys put up their laps and they're never lifting off the gas
It is a good progression, but it just goes to show that the system sucks for the higher licensed driver that still wants to race the slower cars.
I've never really been in favor of leagues, and never really had any complaints about the system they've got until now. I'm just not sure if its going to keep everyone happy long term.
You keep partial throttle in the skippy because it has an open diff. Take your favorite road race set in LFS and throw in an open diff, or set the preload to 0 and enjoy spinning out under braking and turn in.
The miata and solstice are very different. The miata is flat, stiff, and bouncy. The solstice is like a barge...sorta like an old caddilac.
A free SRF is kind of not that great for me. I was already planning on buying it...so getting it for free is nice, but the schedule absolutely sucks now. Its just the same tracks we've been racing since the beginning...and most importantly no Road Atlanta.
Don't forget the ones who think they're better than everyone else (and let us know it frequently) because they drive more realistically and everyone else is cheating and exploiting the sim.
That would be pretty great. I'd love to see 30 - 40 cars on the track at once. Its a bit lame to get to 20 cars and split the field (whatever the numbers are now). It gets boring running by yourself in the skippy, 20 more drivers on the track would liven it up, even if they weren't in the same car.
If you pay attention the squeel is different at what level of grip you're at. Its very helpful to give you a better idea where you are in relation to the limit and how the car is going to react. Its exaggerated to help compensate for the lack of g forces.
One thing about live for speed cars is that you have infinite ways to adjust your car and make the "perfect" setup.
Driving a car like the skippy with massive flaws that are just there by the nature of the car...it makes it a bit more fun to just master the character of the vehicle then to tweak the differential 23 times to get the perfect preload so the rear end doesn't fly around on you on entry, but you don't understeer because you've tweaked 100 other things.
