Anything special to differientiate this from the other dozen or so wannabe super-car makers?

Big engine, decently low weight, MR layout, it's all a bit cookie-cutter. Kudos for not making it 18 bigillion HP as standard though.

Not all that I see, click on about the IGTC.

But thank you for the clarification!!!!

One of the clocks on the IGTC site is showing GMT +1, as 6:18 currently, another showing GMT as 6:18.

Does qualifying start 24hours + 40 mins from now? (2:00PM Eastern)

Thanks, sorry for the confusion.

Why you have a conceivable point in there, it's largely lost in your fanaticism and poor grammar.

As for the last part, it's similar to your loose perhaps misconstrued translation of Senna's quote. You're definition of "Drive" is someone out there who races. This is fine, but it is completely devoid of the requirement of skill, which is part of the "drive" the V1 folks are looking for, by employing LFS as a tool.

It's a difficult situation. Fern Bay is definitely not exactly a modern racing circuit.

Which makes it all the more fantastic! LMP1's can have a go at Mosport, our GT2 equivalents can handle a club circuit with only minor areas of no runoff.

Agreed with the above about the pitlanes, use a little common sense, give and go, live and let live, and everyone should be okay.

Anywho, looking forwards to a fantastic race, has the wind been officially announced?

nice! I sat with my e6750 at 8x400 for quite a while. The quads need more northbridge voltage as the FSB gets higher afaik. Grats on the nice OC, and great rig.

What i'm most interested in is what LFS lacks currently. If it doesn't have changing track conditions (oil, water and dirt), weather, broken bumpers and radiators, dynamic time and temperatures, it can't possibly justify the continuing fees imo.

iRacing would have to be Shockingly good to even make me think about subscribing.

Sound is nice, but the content has to be deep, really deep, to justify the price.

No worries Sam, the spirit of this discussion is appreciated

Anywho, its a fairly trivial ballast in the great scheme of things. Warranted or effective, to be determined.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :While I appreciate the spirit of this discussion, let me just say here that the balancing for this season will not be changed unless a new physics patch comes out, and maybe not even then, depending.

Fair enough, but I do find it interesting that in one of RC's links you yourself questioned the use of such small ballast, as upwards of 80kgs effected a LOTA driver by only about a second a lap.

There is more than enough evidence to prove that the 15kg is Not needed just from the last MOE race alone, where an unballasted XRR had a stint of 47 laps (hugely impossible in the FZR) and managed to came back from a DT pentalty (admittedly a truely inspired drive, but the point remains). Add in the lack of engine damage and sequential gearbox, the cars are even over a race distance without any unneccessary ballasts.

Quote from rcpilot :Pretty much because of this:

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=36838
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=36992

Can't say for myself yet whether or not it really works but it has been argued to death and worked out pretty amicably in the end. 15 kg is only .15 or so per minute which makes it that much harder to judge its effect.

Like you said, it remains unclear if it works / was needed at all in the first place.

In my opinion, the patch led to a rush in judgement, "OMG, the cars are back to 0-0-0, they can't possibly be equal!!11!"

The there was an immediate push to race unfounded ballasts, instead of just going through a few races and seeing if any ballast was needed.

Obviously 15kg is such a trivial pentalty (1.2% if the car was 1250kg), that it is out of the realm of having an effect much more than a placebo effect. Except that the spring rates and settings need to be modified.

Quote from Jakg :Core 2 Duo's are faster in most current games, but more and more games are becoming multi-threaded which take advantage of all 4 cores. If you will be using this PC for a while, then Quad core is the way to go (on a £1k rig), but if you plan on upgrading it "every now and then" then an E8400 would tide you over 'till Nehalem^.

^Note: Nehalem will be a rather large "upgrade", as it ushers in a new socket (read: new motherboard) and DDR3 only (iirc).

Should be fantastic though.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :I wonder whether FZR drivers really think they'd be more competitive than they currently are, were they driving XRRs.

I doubt it, I believe there just is no legitimat reason to penalize the FZR which has no obvious advantages when it comes to race distances.

Quote from rcpilot :No, I didn't mix up any cars. The FXR was seriously quick at blackwood, although it didn't show as much in our league, while the XRR had major problems exiting the now lower speed corners that BL GP is composed of with its turbo lag w/o the advantage of awd. I'm saying you guys have seen two races, with pretty inconclusive results and are worried about the sky falling. We (or I at least) have incomplete data so far as to whether or not the new blackwood is a good representative track for balancing and I know kyn isn't a good representation of your average track.

I don't think any of us are worried the sky is falling, well maybe the one guy who thinks the XRR is 7 seconds a lap faster than the FZR

KYN seems to be a fairly average track, with SO and FE being twistier, and (other) KY and WE being faster. BW about the same?

I agree with you, the data is inconclusive at best, so why have the added ballast?

Everything you're saying is fine and true; however, nothing you say actually justifies the 15kg FZR pentalty. (also, you refer to FXR when I believe you mean XRR).

Essentially, pre-patch the cars admittedly (by Scawen's own admission) were not balanced, and thus the several balancing changes were enacted to smooth the field.

With the added gearbox modeling, as well as tire changes, patch Y went about creating a level playing field, from the source. The XRR's fuel consumption, tire wear, and sequential gearbox are there to counter the FZR's 1-lap speed.

Exactly as unfounded as you claim this discussion is, We are saying the balance is wrong as-is.

As the ballast is not enough to majorly disrupt the racing, it will go unchanged, and it is an advantage the XRR will enjoy throughout the season.

I believe there needs to be a rather in-depth look at the potential short-comings of a bottom side impact.

F1 cars (and most open wheel vehicles) are more susceptible towards becoming airborne than their fendered brotheren. The bottom of these cars are largely devoid of any "crush" structures, and the driver sits right on the ground.

Replay the in-car of the Kubica crash. The nose of the car returned downward just before the head-on wall impact, resulting in almost "the ideal" crash. IF the nose of the car had still been in the air, the car would have impacted the bottom of the BMW, and almost all the force would have bypassed the crush zones. It would have easily resulted in massive forces acting on the back and spine of Kubica.

Tracks also need to be improved. The standard Catch-Fence common to NASCAR and now most tracks does work well at keeping flying cars out of the stands. Unfortunately, it also can act like a cheese-grater to open wheel cars. Also, they are still susceptible to flying wheels and tires. (see Villenueve's '01 Australia crash that claimed the life of a track worker, or 96(?) Charlotte IRL crash).

Are current racing cars phenomenally safe? Yes, but there is more to do and the efforts and pace of improving the safety of the cars need to never be lowered.

Quote from LazLoW :I don't quite understand how this works.
They both have the same HP per tonne, the XRR has more torque, and does longer stints.
Enlighten me how the FZR is faster?

Lol... Presumably due to its (former) popularity?

In actuality, the Turbo lag of the XRR gives it a rather akward power curve/delivery, and thus the FZR (with its very linear power curve) is a bit faster in some circumstances.

As you correctly pointed out, the XRR can do significantly longer stints (i.e. latest MOE race) and uses less fuel.

And as one individual pointed out, "the 15kg isn't really enough to make that much difference," so why have it in the first place?

Quote from Shotglass :another option would be the pva eizo 20" and 22" monitors which if im not mistaken about the panel in the dell (pva if im not mistaken) should give the same image quality with less blurring due to a more modern panel

Hey Shot,

Can you recommend a 24" lcd, or somewhere that list what panel = what brand?

Like AJP, I'm in the market for something new, and wondering what the better LCD's are.

Telemetry said he went from over 165mph to Stopped (forwards anyways) in just over a foot.

True testement to the SAFER barriers and the COT.

Plus when you look at it, the car kept moving around the track after the collision, which means less energy absorbed directly by the driver. (i.e. another part of what went wrong with the Earnhardt wreck)
