Quote from Scrabby :I'm gonna try the 90$ subscription today, what are the cost of cars and tracks?

remember that if you buy 3 items you get 10% discount and if you buy 6 items you get 20% discount...... makes quite a difference, especially on the yearly subscription where you currently get $85 in vouchers to spend.....

I have to say I thought the pricing was pretty good in the UK for win 7. However, after seeing the pre-order rates then seeing the US version, it really pissed me off!

http://www.microsoft.com/uk/wi ... buy/offers/pre-order.aspx

In the UK, pre-order is £99.
In the USA its $99
(both for the top version)
USA OFFER

why we pay so much more pisses me off, for the same thing!

Quote from Gnomie : that's why iRacing has chosen to ignore our calls so far.

I wouldn't say iRacing has ignored us as a whole. It's one of the areas I think iRacing has done well with. There are a lot of things they change each 3 months based on our thoughts. i just think that they have a strategy and they have resource already placed. They can't just change it over night and reallocate resource.

I'll be interested to see what updates we get at the end of this series

Quote from UncleBenny :Definitely, people complain about a lot of other things from the service but I don't think there are many sim racers out there that wouldn't pay $50 to buy the game. And once people have it they will race with it more often. The fact that subscriptions end and people can't race any more is why there aren't enough racers in iRacing. Plenty of people try it out, but there isn't enough there to make everyone stick around with prices as high as they are.

That's why them adding more and more content annoys me. It seems like they're just trying to attract more new people all the time. They need to focus some energy on making current subscribers happy so they stick around, and it just doesn't seem like they are doing much from my point of view. And this is coming from someone who likes the service and plans to resubscribe without question.

yeah, totally agree, it is frustrating seeing content after content. However, they do have a strategy and that strategy is part of their longer term goal.

They are pumping out the US tracks probably because of an agreement with organisations such as NASCAR, where they might need to get each track on their agenda.

That said, each season (3months) we do get large updates. At least that keeps people playing and involved in the game rather than no updates at all ***cough***

Quote from NotAnIllusion :The boxy quattro looks are classic for me. If they ever get changed to 'modern', curvy and smoothed ones..

Quote from SamH :I lost count of the number of times I went to the York Railway Museum. A lot, shall we say Though I haven't been for about 30 years, now. There's no live steam (or there wasn't last time I was there.. dunno if it's changed) and the engines were scrubbed up and clean.

I'm a live steam fan, so while it's great to see the engines up close, it doesn't get my heart beating like it does when they're pounding past me, feet away

yeah, I hear ya... there's a steam engine place not far from me in Ripley, Derbyshire. The sound of the whistle gives me goose bumps!

I was looking yesterday at the York Railway Museum website. I haven't been there for a long time. Ever been there Mr H?

thanks Stu...

Update: I tried it and my time was slightly slower than with the set I use so I have to concede it's nothing to do with the setup at all but my skill.....

However, this combo is sensational

Quote from racer hero :Yeh, I'm losing some time somewhere, but I can't figure it out. What set are you running?

Moose runs the default basic so he can us mere mortals a chance

Quote from Crommi :That's not entirely true, there seems to be small changes in season schedules. For an example Skip Barber race series seems to now run twice on Sebring while LRP Chicane configuration has been dropped from schedule. Also Mazda serie will be visiting Road Atlanta next week, I'm pretty sure that's a new track since I haven't had to buy it before.

Quote from Doorman :And therein lies the basic problem. If you want to race the Solstice, Skippy or Spec Racer out of choice you'll never get to drive anywhere else except...stock tracks.
It's not as if various GP track owners around the world don't cater to club racers and lower formulae IRL®

You're absolutely right. However, this is going to change with the introduction of the leagues area that is due soon. If you subscribed a few months ago to be notified and wanted to be included in as a possible private league owner/admin then you can setup a Solstice or Spec Racer League that does the tracks you want Though the skippy does change the custom tracks each series. YOu'll know that Sebring is new to this season's skippy racing for instance.

Quote from Doorman :Not sure we need MORE CONTENT. It would be nice if we lesser mortals got to use some of the content already there. For example: Barber,(3 layouts) Silverstone,(5 layouts!) Road Atlanta,(3 layouts) Daytona, Road America(2 layouts) and Watkins Glen.(4 layouts) I've not seen these used in Skip Barber or anything else except hotshot series. Guess I'll just have to become a hotshot. They really ought to show a little imagination as far as track selection is concerned.
A never ending succession of Lime Rock, Summit Vaginia and Laguna Seca is getting a little tedious.
IMO.

It's a deliberate choice to retain the stock tracks that come with the rookie package. As the Skippy is the next car up the line in the Road series, they keep the stock tracks to ensure moving up to the skippy doesn't mean forking out for 6 - 8 new tracks too. That's the reason why you'll see the basic tracks in there

Quote from The Moose :Exactly. My first 10-15 races were pretty easy and i generally drove away from the field. Once you build a decent irating it all gets a lot more competitive as you get grouped with drivers of the same ability. The action really starts to hot up I'm really enjoying the races now they are a lot tougher.

yeah, I bet you're one of those 1.39 freaks on VIR North

Quote from atledreier :Ok, so here's probably where the mindset of many LFS'ers differ from iRacers. See, I'd rather be in a hard battle for 7th place for 22 laps than lap all but two and win by a mile.

but I'd rather be able to take part in a complete race (more races than not) than be taken out on T1 my muppets....... which happens a lot more in LFS than in iRacing...

too many T1 collisions in LFS. Of course they happen in iRacing too but certainly less.

Quote from Gnomie :The number of subscribers is increasing steadily, though. So from a business point of view, it seems their strategy is working pretty well. But yeah, I think they'd do themselves a disfavour if they ignore the most blatant problems for much longer.

i think they are doing a good job to keep updates coming as fast as they are..... if you think where they were a year ago, its excellent the difference now. However, I do think some more big changes should come soon rather than MORE content.....

Quote from Crommi :That's what the licence system is here for, it automatically weeds out drivers who are not able to drive safely and prevents them from getting into higher series. There's no resets either, which means crashing out will completely destroy your SR since you won't be able to reset and then cruise around trying to get laps in for lowering "corners per incident" ratio for that race.

Reckless driving and/or dangerous driving can also be protested and I'd highly encourage you to do so.

Just checked out your last MAZDA race. That's a really strong field you had there with many of the top people in it
