Quote from z-ro 8 :I'm an LFS fanboy, and got past rookie oval license in about 5 nights of iracing.
Love it.
The problem is you can't and shouldn't compare the two. They are just different.
If you judged S2 content on your demo experience today, you may not by S2.
So don't judge the whole of iracing off your first month in the rookie class.

14 bucks a month(8 if you go for the best deal), may seem like a lot, but that is less that 50 cents a day. You can beg, borrow or steal that and noone will notice.

Bottom line: LFS is good at being LFS, iRacing is good at being iRacing.

yeah, totally agree!

Quote from evans :I've had iRacing for years now, rFactor for double as long, some GTR and GTR 2 here and there, racer for the odd fun drive and LFS for 8 years. In the meantime I have also driven various formulae and other racing cars, and it is my conviction that iRacing delivers one of the most realistic simulation drives yet. What it lacks in some parts of the experience, it makes up for in graphics, sense of realism etc.

LFS comes second in many aspects, and I know that many of the things bugging me about LFS' physics simulation are already being worked on by the team.

I can't see why it is so important for some people to create this "we are better than them!" mood with threads like this or the rFactor vs. LFS thread. You don't have to choose either one. I can do iRacing for a couple of hours and when that becomes too serious, I switch to rFactor or GTR and sometimes I do a couple of nostalgic laps in LFS. It's not like having one game bars you from using any of its competitors.

The fact that a team of three developers have created a simulator that is competing with simulators with 10-30 times is remarkable in itself - I don't expect three people to create the most realistic simulation in all of mankind, and so I don't mind that there are options out there that are more realistic. LFS will always be something special, for many reasons.

Couldn't agree more

Quote from Mp3 Astra :I'd love to commentate on iRacing, but I know absolutely nothing about the iRacing community (even less than I know about LFS, for instance, until half way through the KY250 I forgot that Nolan and you didn't drive for CoRe any more).

I assure you, I get excited about everything remotely close to action in any kind of racing.

But you have a passion for doing a good job commentating and doing the research to make sure what you broadcast is good. Wouldn't take you long to get up to speed. Why not email psrtv and see... Would be cool to hear you do that ..... Deko too

Quote from adamlfs :After speaking and hearing from a number of people I really want to try the Lotus 79, but would it be best to wait for the next season to buy the content for it?

Will the track schedule be the same?

if you go to the top list in the iRacing forums (announcements): look there for season 3 schedule. You'll see what te full calender will be starting next week.

Quote from The Moose :The Lotus is superb now, and I have no idea how so many people are blowing engines.

Did 40 laps at Mid Ohio yesterday. Blew my engine once, first time leaving the pits. After that I didn't miss a gear or blow my engine once.

Turn off auto cluch/auto blip, lift and shift at 11,000rpm, blip on downshifts. Simple.

Love the transmission model. Love the fact that so many previously fast guys are having problems with it as well

LOL.... yeah, the Lotus is SO much better now. I wonder how many people wouldn't have finished that Silverstone race with a blown engine :0

Quote :This is a heads up on the The Intel GP Series. iRacing has teamed up with Intel to create a global competition that is in conjunction with the Intel Extreme Master Tournament events. The series will feature the Star Mazda at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The competition will be comprised of 3 Regional qualifiers, 3 Regional Finals, and a World Final. The Intel GP Series kicks off with this upcoming 13th week.

Round 1 - European Regional Qualifier (July 27-Aug 2)
Round 2 - America / Canada Regional Qualifier (TBD)
Round 3 - Asia / Australia Regional Qualifier (TBD)

While each series will determine finalists for that particular region, all iRacing members are encouraged to race as great prizes are on the line!

Everyone that participates (regardless of region) in the complete series (minimum 4 days) will be entered to win an Intel i7Core Processor and motherboard courtesy of Intel (approx. Retail Value of $1,500).

The overall winner (regardless of region) will take home $10 iRacing credits.

The Top 10 European qualifiers will continue on to the European Regional Finals on August 22. The Top 4 finishers of that event will then move to the World Finals that will be held at the Intel Extreme Masters Tournament –CeBit, Germany in March 2011. Intel will be awarding $23,000 in cash prizes during the course of the entire Competition.

Races will be run every hour on the :15 of each hour. There will be a total of seven days with 3 drop days. To be eligible for the prizes, competitors must run at least 4 days. This series allows members of all licenses and abilities. This is an official series.

Rules and more detailed information is on the way.

Good Luck with your quest for Global Domination!

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Meh, subbed for another month yesterday, bought the V8 and Zandvoort. And had a go with skinning, I tell you, it sucks. Can't beat LFS' templates and quality.

Quote from Greboth :I don't have a set rule on it, but if it was £500 Vz £800 I would build it, £700 Vz £800 I would buy it. The last PC i bought built, cost me IIRC about £70 compared to the parts so it was worth it. I am open to all ideas but I am just trying to get the best possible PC for my budget.

I've bought quite a few PC's from http://www.meshcomputers.com/

Quote from The Moose :Don't know what forecast you're looking at, but it's currently 84.2 degrees in my room at the moment.

May not be that hot to you, but this is Britain we're talking about. A country when you usually have to wear three layers in the summer

I'll be sitting in a pool of sweat when this race has ended.

Still time for a last qualify attempt Stu!

Quote from The Moose :Looks nice enough, but I dont race ovals, so I couldn't care less about it at the moment.

What we really need is day to night transitions and endurance racing to take advantage of them.

just give driver change

Quote from The Moose :I would if I had the Lotus

I know its a bit costly, for one event but I do think the Lotus is one of those one off cars like the Skip and the Radical... Different enough to the general cars to be worth it......

I reckon you'd love it Stu!

Quote from Seb66 :
Is it easy to blow your engine in that car?

I didn't think so. I just went from 4th to 3rd but I might have been close to the top of the rev's...... was quite a tough 25 lap race though.

Great car and great track..

I had a 25 lap race last night in the Mustang at Infinion Cup. Blew my engine on the last lap! Brilliant circuit and config for the Mustang. Went from 31st to 8th

Quote from NightShift :If you think this topic is here so you can play the internets **** and look cool with your pals, you can go back hiding under the same rock as you have been for the past two years - that's how much I have been reading and posting in this thread without having the pleasure of skipping your <cough> valuable contributions to it.

Implying others can't drive and calling people names? save yourself some finger work: we have enough of your type posting around here already, nobody will ever notice the difference.

Mr Shift, I think you'll find you've read what he's saying wrongly...... He means well and has just said that with the Spec Racer and the few setup changes you CAN make, you'll just have to stick with it at the end of races and try to do your best

Quote from The Moose :The Sporting code isn't worth the PDF it's written on.

Protesting people for obvious breaches in the sporting code is a complete waste of time.

iRacing are simply not interested in punishing anything but stuff like driving the wrong way and extreme abusive language.

It's the one thing I really dislike...they haven't got the balls to punish bad drivers and stupidity because they don't want to piss off paying customers.

concur
