Quote from flymike91 :This is a terrible idea.

OK, you think it's a terrible idea, but could you please explain why you think that? Because segregation is bad? Are you trying to say I'm discriminating?

Also, I don't understand why you act so offended?

Quote from flymike91 :I don't really understand, is it the discussion of upcoming drift events that pisses you off? what exactly is it? The only issues I have seen are in drift vs race threads such as "what the fascination with drifting?"

I agree with you when you say drifting is a competitive motorsport and it's actually great that LFS can provide it. There is nothing that pisses me off about upcoming drift events. I don't have anything against drifters, at all. It's not my cup of tea (mainly because I suck at it) but that doesn't mean I don't respect them for what they do.

My point is that this forum generally isn't very tolerant towards non-racers, which results in stupid discussions and flame wars that can only harm LFS and scare potential license buyers. If that thread you mention is the only race vs drift issue you've seen, I think you've either not been around for very long, or you don't spend enough time here. Look at Ian.H's signature from some posts above for the closest example I can find. Can't be arsed to search for example threads but I'm sure you can find loads.

Quote from flymike91 :Even if racers and drifters are segregated, drifters will still be disrespected in the racing forum with ignorant generalizations

If my suggestion is applied, I don't see a reason for the subject drift to be discussed in the racing forum..? So I think that what you're saying isn't applicable.

Taking your post into account, here's a short balance how I see it - for a separate forum section for drift and cruise;
- segregation is discrimination (?)
+ no more flaming wars destroying LFS' credibility
+ drifters/cruisers won't have to start every post with "please don't flame me"
+ racers don't have to have anything to do with cruise/drift
+ cruisers/drifters don't have to have anything to do with racers

Edit: took me way too long to write this hence some overlap with STROBE's (very nice) post

Quote from x.x :Everyone in motorsport has money or they wouldn't be racing, im not sure you can put it down to that, bit of a silly thing to say really wasn't it.

Tantrums?? Not sure u'v got the right person there, but oh well.

Anyway, your jealousy isn't going to change anything, so I suggest you concentrate on yourselves.

Have a nice day

I hope an admin can reveal this coward's real identity via IP tracking... I really doubt Niki would say anything like that if it wasn't first-hand experience, just like I doubt he's jealous in the way you describe it.

No worries, my first post might have been a bit misleading. I added some text now to clarify.

Isn't that exactly what I'm suggesting for the forum?

Quote from Boris Lozac :Good idea, and how about that subforum is hidden from other people? In User CP, you choose whether you want it to be visible or not...

Making it invisible isn't necessary if you ask me, but then again, I don't use the New Posts feature. For me collapsing a subforum - which is possible already - will do

Quote from Gekkibi :This is a two-edged sword. Those who don't want to talk about cruising/drifting won't have to stand these threads on general discussion (Well, time to time [Read: Daily] someone still posts there...). On the other hand, then LFS "officially" supports cruising and drifting (Even that's not true) and would bring more drifters / casual drivers to LFS (Both good and bad there... More sold licenses, but attracts "the wrong kind of people").

Yeah well, that's basically the extended version of my pro and con from the first post
I personally think "supporting" the cruise and drift servers was already done by adding the option "Cruise [on/off]" on the serverlist page, ingame.
Over the time it's become clear to me that this type of servers definitely won't dissapear if you don't support them. So I think it's time to make the decision to deal with them and navigate them to their own place, rather than to "ignore" them and watch the flame wars burn down the forum, and LFS' image along with it.

Quote from james12s :to me the line talking of abuse of the sim will offend certain people, you may not have mean it to come out that way

I see your point But that's why I purposefully put "abuse" between quotation marks, it wasn't meant to be offensive at all

Quote from tristancliffe :Yes, I think you are. A lot of the time a functional design tends to look great, but CFD and FEA produces shapes (not just in F1) that are theoretically 'better', but rarely look nice.

Sometimes I think people think everything was always better in the past... I tend to think people that can't enjoy new techniques or looks, are too conservative..
Do know that I absolutely loved the F1 cars back in the 90's, the '95 benetton with the white rims being the most gorgeous example, but this is so sexy I could cry
In another ten years time, I'm quite sure I'll have another favorite that's even better... I suppose there's something to say for both preferences, but for me what's in the past is in the past; I live today

Edit:
Quote from ATic ATac :I agree with you. This is 21st century and i love the way that cars look .

I´ve seen a F18 fighter really close and it´s the same feeling of air flowing allong the shape.

Wooo thanks! My thoughts exactly!

Quote from james12s :oh another cruise basher, oh its mishues, not it is not, you are intitled to your views fine but dont go insulting people which is what you are doin

edit: though in all honesty a seperate drift section and a seperate cruise section would be nice but not for the ignorent and selfish reasons you are suggesting

Ho-ho-hoooly shit...? Please point me to the line where I'm insulting people?
Actually I'm suggesting to let cruisers and drifters live, be it in there own subforum where users that don't want anything to do with the non-racing side of the online racing simulator don't have to have anything to do with it - and vice versa. No more cruise bashing, no more drift wars, etc. Everyone happy?

Subforum for non-racing use of LFS

Been trying to hold my breath for a long time now, but it seems like we can't avoid this kind of stuff to happen to "our" supposed race sim forum... I think it's time for a subforum for the Cruisers and Drifters?

Pro: no more non-racing discussions where we (or let's start with I) don't want them...
Con: acknowledge the "abuse" of a supposed race sim.

[following is added from later posts]

[MPR2UBB] - Your multiplayer replays converted to a results table

Hello there,

I created this program initially for internal team usage, in order to keep everyone in the team updated about the league race results of every member. But by adding a variable here and there, the application should now be useful for other teams or league administrators too, so that's why the post here.

What this program does, is create a results table for any of your multiplayer replays in your replay folder - with one click of the mouse button. Another click of the mouse copies the table to the clipboard and sends you straight to your team's or league's forum. Now all you have to do is paste the table in the empty post field and click submit!

So if you're a league administrator, you can post race results fast and easy. If you're a team owner who likes to know what's going on in all the leagues your members are competing, you can distribute this small application to every one of them and tell them to post the results after a race. And finally the program can be used when you just like to see the results of a certain multiplayer replay fast and easy.

On MPR2UBB features a few options:
- Display various race result parameters:
- The start grid
- The car of the drivers
- The license name of the drivers
- The fastest lap time of the drivers
- The number plate of the drivers
- Penalties for the drivers
- Amount of pitstops per driver
- The handicap mass onboard
- The intake restriction
- Emphasise team members in the race results (using CAPITAL letters)

Please note that for the last option an LFS World IdentKey is necessary, since the team data is retrieved from the LFS World Team database. You can generate an IdentKey here. If you leave the team name field empty, no drivers will be emphasised.

Examples of output can be found on for example the league section of our team forum: here. (edit: or in the post below)

I attached some screenshots so you can see the interface.

Name: MPR2UBB
File: MPR2UBB.rar (134kb)
Requires .NET Framework 2.0
Download

If there are any questions or problems, please let me know. Hope you find it useful!

René

EDIT: forgot to mention that the application doesn't support any disconnects during e.g. an endurance race. If disconnections are dealt with by an external tracker, this application will show the wrong race results.
