The Army is still sponsoring an NHRA team too. Probably just getting too pricey to stay in Cup these days.

The fact that he actually did that on purpose because they were the only ones standing back there makes it even better. If that was me and my friends and he did that, we would have lost it.

Quote :Brad Keselowski ‏@keselowski
I saw them there & thought "wth"? @MCGarand: @Keselowski Did you really do that burnout for the 3 guys that recorded that?

Funny how plate races in real life look exactly like iRacing, outside lines can only get to within a couple cars of the front of the line inside them before they lose steam unless you have a really fast car. Kenseth probably would have won it if he had left the Bif behind and just raced Tony to the line, I would have been so pissed if he won another one though.

Quote from Cornys :Is there any reason to beleive that Kenseth doesn't particularly like Carl Edwards? (not asking for my self, a relative thinks this)

Would you like a guy who acts like this?

Edwards always seemed like a huge d-bag to me, I don't blame Matt for not liking the guy.

Rumors make it sound like he's going to Gibbs, possibly in a fourth car?

Don't have anything that can play that on my work PC. Not sure how much video can prove right now anyway, someone could have run the low line on the track before they tore up the top groove and said "Look its a one groove track". The real test will be in August.

I hope they come to Pocono.

Excellent.

Quote :Outside groove gone at Bristol: Bristol Motor Speedway has witnessed the initial laps on its recently altered surface. On day one of a two-day Goodyear Tire test #14-Tony Stewart, #31-Jeff Burton and #15-Clint Bowyer circled the half-mile concrete oval, and will wrap up the session on Wednesday. While it's impossible to predict how the racing action will be when NASCAR hits Bristol for August race week and the IRWIN Tools Night Race, the trio of drivers offered their comments following a full day of lapping the banks of Bristol. The same drivers will return on Wednesday to complete the Goodyear Tire test. Goodyear has mandated that the test sessions are closed to the public and media.
#14-Tony Stewart (who is the only driver to try to run the high groove): "Well, you've definitely lost the top groove. Guys who run up there aren't going to be able to do that because it's pretty slick up there. There's going to be less room to race, that's for sure. We've gone from a three-groove track to two grooves and any time you've got less room to get around it can get pretty interesting. I'm one of the guys who likes that high groove so it's really going to change things up for me. It'll change things for everybody though because when you take away room to race on a track this small with 43 cars& yeah, it's going to tighten things up."
#15-Clint Bowyer: "That outside line the upper groove is out of play now. There's going to be a lot closer racing then we've had here in the past. I don't typically run up there but a lot of guys do and I can't see them going up there now. If they do& it's pretty slippery and they'll figure that out in a hurry. The closer we have to race just means something's going to happen. Is it going to make fans happy? Well, narrowing up the track means less room to get around so there's no question there's going to be closer action."
#31-Jeff Burton: "Goodyear is looking to bring a tire with more grip. I really think they have found some stuff that is really promising. As for the track itself, I really can't imagine running up there in that top groove. I think it is going to force everyone more to the middle and bottom of the track. The drivers aren't going to be happy, but the spectators probably will be because it is going to put more cars in a closer space. By taking away that groove, it is going to change your mind about going up there. I think it is going to be two grooves, unless Goodyear brings a tire with a lot of grip. If that is the case, you'll want to run around the bottom. Making the groove smaller is a good thing, it is going to put the action back to the bottom and middle of the track. What has changed is up near the wall, the bottom is the same. Tony experimented and tried out that top groove, and I know he won't be trying that again. If people liked the older track more than the new, they are going to like this. This takes the top groove out and brings it back toward the old track. Taking the groove out moves the track closer to what it used to be."(see more quotes at bristolmotorspeedway.com)(6-13-2012)

Haven't watched a TV replay yet but yes, his car definitely had the sound of losing a cylinder.

Quote from Cornys :Edit: Those who were there, how accurate do you think the 100,000 attendance number to be? I know there were alot of campers, and the stands were at least 80% full, but 100,000 people?

I believe it, the stands were fairly full and the infield was packed compared to how relatively empty it usually is in there, in turn one at least. Awesome race even though I never slept the night before so I had to take a couple power naps during the race, hopefully this ends Pocono's reign of being a "boring" track to some people.

I thought they were already reportedly hitting 211+ going into turn 1 yesterday, and that was a 179+ average lap.

Edit: Just had my first race, and had a bit af an incident. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF_ss55TfNE . Can someone tell me who's fault is it (i'm in the blue car). It looked like he made a mistake to me so i moved in to pass, but i had just ~10 laps of practice, so i don't know the fastest line through the corners yet.

I'd say it was your fault, you divebombed going into the corner where he hit you and you probably would have ran wide if you didn't use him as a wall to bounce off of.

Sounds like the drivers are saying good things about the Pocono repaving, hopefully there is some good racing on Sunday. Even though the weather looked great all week, as we get closer to the weekend seems like the rain is slowly creeping in. Not surprising, it ALWAYS rains at Pocono.

Quote from Cornys :Will anybody be streaming this event or following it? I would like to, but I don't know where I may be able to. I'm not going to pay $20+ to watch a race on TV, and I'd go myself being only a few hours away, but I can't get anybody to go with me on a week night

Anyways, will anybody on here be following this event?

http://eldoraspeedway.com/

Its $20 for charity.

I've watched it the past 5 or so years, skipping it this year though. Have stuff to do to get ready for Pocono this weekend. Sadly, the race is usually pretty boring, for me at least. There is little passing once the race gets going. Maybe its cool for the general public that never watches dirt racing, but I could watch a better race than that on any given weekend in person at any one of the local tracks around me.

Probably a cool event to go to though, if I lived down there I'd definitely try to go ever year.

I read something like that on Jayski, apparently Finch and Busch are going to sit down and have a meeting on Tuesday.

Quote :UPDATE 2: [#51 car owner James] Finch told ESPN.com he would meet with Busch over the next couple of days to discuss whether they would keep the handshake agreement they made before the season. He didn't sound like a man convinced the arrangement could or would work. "If he's going to kill himself, I'm not going to be in the airplane with him," Finch said by phone. "If that's what he's planning on doing, I am going to get out." Finch made it clear after Busch was released by Penske Racing following a profanity-laced tirade against ESPN's Dr. Jerry Punch at Homestead-Miami Speedway last November that if Busch embarrassed him like he did Roger Penske "he would have gotten his ass beat on pit road. He needs to simmer down a while," Finch told ESPN.com in December. "There are a lot of people that don't like Kurt. He's never done anything to me personally. He just needs to look in the mirror and see what the problem is." Now Busch has done something to Finch personally, even though the incident came while Busch was driving a Kyle Busch Motorsports Nationwide car for his little brother. Finch made it clear there are several qualified drivers to take over Phoenix Racing's #51 Chevy.(ESPN)(6-4-2012)

Quote :UPDATE 3: Phoenix Racing team owner James Finch said he will meet with Kurt Busch next Tuesday to discuss the embattled driver's future with the team. "We're going to meet the next week and have a come-to-Jesus meeting," Finch said Tuesday morning in an interview with SIRIUS/XM NASCAR Radio. At the time [Busch was hired by Finch], Finch said of the deal, "He (Busch) can't quit and I can't fire him." But that may be changing. "(Kurt) needs to either get his mind right or he's going to be working somewhere else," Finch told SIRIUS/XM. "... Quit wrecking cars. Be nice to people. That's not hard to do."(SPEED)(6-5-2012)

Quote from PMD9409 :It's stupid.

You don't think he should have gotten suspended?

His tirades were entertaining for a while but I'm quickly getting sick of him, I'm glad they parked him for a race. I wouldn't mind a bit if Finch fired him and he was out of the Cup series completely, he adds nothing good to the series at this point.

Spent the weekend finishing off two more truck bed platforms for Pocono to go along with the rooftop one I have on my Blazer. We're rolling out in style this year.

I'm pumped about Pocono too. I think the shorter race was a good call, will just make it more exciting and now we'll get home at a slightly more reasonable hour hopefully. Look for us flying the Tony Stewart flags near the exit of turn one haha.

I guess interest in the series is a good thing? Just please don't turn this into ALMS with 10 classes and 3 cars racing in each class.

From what I've read the SS is supposed to be based on the long wheel base Commodore that the Chevy Caprice cop car is based on, G8 was the normal wheel base model. I've seen some good Chevy SS photoshops, too bad it probably will look much more boring than these when it actually comes out.

Good for me this car is coming out here, I have a G8 and more access to replacement parts is always a good thing.
