so is gtr and GTL that good? GPL is actually very challanging. lfs should add engine damage and random breakdowns (as result of poor care) to make it even more noob-hostile

so far made a list of "must own sims" for a racing fanatic who enjoys total realism
-RBR
-LFS
-GPL

One thing to add about GPL though. When you make a mistake it bites, hard. Missed a braking point and tapped the wall? No F10 to tell you how much your wheel is bend or is it bent at all. Broke an engine even though you're sure you smade no mistakes? No engine is perfect (chance of mechanical failure is always there). If you drive with lots of aids on in LFS using all sorts of game techinques you won't like GPL at all, it is simply too hard for you. But if you like sims that don't hold your hand and don't do your gearshifts for you you may even like it. It is from 1998 and it shows but the fact that it is still here makes a point or two .

hmm... i use f10 to see damage, to see what i am doing wrong, so i can drive the car softer next time. does that mean, i have to try everything and see which of my actions broke my engine or is there a detailed view or status report on my car.

but what if you(me) are actually interested in some rally style(discovering the track as you go) racing?

But, even if the track is foregn, if you have the same knowlege of the track as the other players, it'll be an even playground

i never bother to master any tracks, exept for some i master(memorize) unintentionally when i drive on it every time.

which is more realistic? i hear that people say that the physics are glitchy, but thanks for the link

HOLY SHIIIIIIIT!!!!
Is the physics modeling that good? it's only oval racing and it's only a bunch of stock cars. can it really be worth 100?!?!?!

^good thing they didn't put a diesel engine in there. and i would rather get the peel p50 then that, at least the peel is fun, and you can drive it into buildings, like jeremy clarkson did.

lol, this might be the worst "car" but wouldn't beat the Gwiz if it was counted as a car.
and if you wanted a simple rr car to drift in, get a smart brabus roadster

Quote from squad_e :LOL.. Couldn't resist.

Yeah LFS all the way mate ..

GT4 looks good tho' But it's for console only, shambles.

NO! NO! gt4 is the worst out of the series

EDIT:NVMND this seems like a joke thread anyways..

seems like i hear a lot of complements about Grand Prix Legend, and about it's legendary status... but it seems like other people say that lfs now has much better physics.

Quote from al heeley :Richard Burns rally is the best rally game released. It's hard, its stressful and very realistic. It's like the Grand prix Legends of the Rally world. Some get put off by its high level of difficulty, they can get bored/frustrated, but it is a good and immersive game if realism is your thing.
If you like more playability/arcade game nature then avoid it.
If you have knowledge of Rally Legends and Colin McRae, I'd say its more like a pure sim version of RL, whereas CMCrae is more of a playstation/Xbox game experience. RBR is unplayable without a good wheel/pedals, imo.

hate to bring back an old topic, but isn't lfs harder then GPL?

oh, by the way,

i didn't like Colin McRae games because i played DiRT in a demo store and it was disgusting.

and...didn't gpl, gtr, gtl, netKar pro, and rFactor, and any other driving sims die when S2 came out?

and now, on addition, those games get cement over the grave when patch Y came out?

oh, yes, have you guys figured a way to split other axis too?
i am kinda tired of pulling down the right analog stick to engage the clutch... it's kinda distracting when driving...

i push the analog stick up to disengage the clutch and pull it down to drive the car.

and i don't believe in the button configured clutch, it's a pedal, not an on/off switch. i only setup a button e-brake because i rarely use it. as they say,
"ebrake initiations are for beginners and wussies who don't like step out of their comfort zone"

Quote from Michael Denham :
Well, also that FF is typically less expensive and the best layout from a packaging point of view.

Ahhhh, the dark age of crap cars is ending, in a few years there will be a flood of cheap fr sports cars on the market soon, and it's all thanks to all those now-rich companies willing to sacrifice a litte for the greater good.

well, it seems like it's going well, and the best 2wd platform is the fr, since it's so well balanced and versatile, but i think 2wd's with the engine above the driving wheel is best(since i live in a very wet and snowy region).

FF's are good for autoX or small curves(like the slow slalom course), but honestly, I like rwd or awd way better...

FF's are predictable, that's why it's safer for the average citizen and that's why most production cars are mostly ff's

wow, Lego, sweet, so are u saying that LFSTweak would just screw up the physics if you use it for something minor as trimming a few pounds off?

and as far as controller's concerned, i am not that hardcore so i just got a controller with 4 analog inputs for the: clutch, brake, throttle, and steering

no, i am actually fine with pulling the clutch all the way down to deactivate, it's just that after i installed xbcd i can NOT control my clutch

Quote from Woz :
NOW answer this simple question with YES or NO, it will show a lot about your motives....

Do you want the old keyboard steering put back in LFS?

The reason I ask is that you appear very concerned about this considering it DOES NOT effect you, or so you keep saying. Well the removal of the old KB steer didnt effect you but look at all the people that effected for the worse.

BTW: If you answer NO then why should blip/cut get back in. If YES you really are playing the wrong sim. Come on, lets see where you stand on this

well, no, i want a sim to be totally realistic, so it makes people who are not GENUINELY interested in racing and/or driving quit within a few seconds since it's too hard for them.

I want a sim that you can basically dial in a setting for a car (ie make specs similar to those of real cars) and you can drive it and it would act as if it was in real life.

WHAT?!?!? GT; an ARCADE GAME??? ok, gt4 is a very bad example of what polyphony can do but i am sure that gt5 is going to be amazing. it's philosophy is to make everything as real as possible, from stock car tuning, to tracks and physics, it's trying to be perfect. and that's not an arcade game, they are striving to be the ultimate driving simulator that you can learn how to drive and race from.

The quality of the physics probably stopped improving at about gt3.

Now i would think that what you are referring to something more derogatory, something that is foul and it's sim title should be usurped... i bring you FORZA all they care about is what kinda stickers you can put on the car. and the graphic qualities aren't even good enough to compensate for it's stupid physics system
