hey, i wana join, but actually, slidesquad is in california doing touge and track, mostly unorthodox methods like using ff's and such.

they where pretty cool and started by Dave Scholz

stupid game... rather play drift city, atleast i would know people there....

Note: i do not and will not play DC ever, people are lame ricers that think drifting is the fastest way around in straights and corners. i know someone who sucks at lfs after i introduced it to him. he decided to become "a dwarf among midgets" and go play with ricers

add anti lag and pressure controls, besides, i love the hiss and the pop when i shift gears, i am planning to save up for an old school rally boost setup on my impreza, 3k enough? anti lag is cheap right? it's only a hose...

and also the whine of the supercharger gets on my nerves so...

Quote from JeffR :Regardless of what the general public thinks, the people who run D1GP (Japan) and Formula D (USA) that make the rules do not allow front wheel drive cars in their drift contests, because those people do not consider sliding the rear end with the front end under complete control to be drifting.

Handbrakes are used quite often in drift events, to initiate drifts and to decrease the turning radius while in a drift. Most of the high end drift cars have a rachetless handbrake lever that is longer and located closer to the driver than a normal car. Drifting is a combination of hand braking and power slides.

Due to limited space and smaller tracks at many of the Japan D1GP events, the speeds are slower. Even on the larger tracks, speeds rarely exceed 75mph.

btw, ebrakes are for emergencies, ppl only need it to correct their line if they mess up going in, and people rarly use the handbrake, exept in manji or choku drifts

I would much rather use the hydraulic handbrake that allows full control over the rear brakes just as the foot brake allows for control over the front brakes

and @ RS, awd's can drift, but it's very hard, you might just end up neutralsteering and trying to pretend you have your front wheels gripping.

I talked through this issue many times on many drift forums and the conclusion is: it's not drifting unless you have the front wheel gripping and the rear wheel slipping by means of your engine

i said turbo, higher boost then a blower

^ actually, the minimum speed limit here in washington state is 75mph on highways. the tata would be a good grocery getter, but you should turbo it for a faster ride, and a legal ride at that.

sigh.... :biggun:
dictionary definition of drifting: oversteering with powering-over using the rear wheels, while countersteering following a specific line.

ff's can appear to drift by skidding, they can use oversteer to slow down during road racing, but the term drifting refers to "the sport of exhibition sliding" which, case in point, would be holding oversteer all through out the track.

ff's can skid for a short distance, but it can not hold a long continuous skid with the rear wheels, it will stop moving because of inertia soon enough. only rear wheel drive cars can execute a "dictionary drift". ff's drag ass, it's a fact. you can use it in road racing or rally racing but not exhibitioning.

and by the way, there are several methods besides ebrakes to initiate in an ff:
trail braking(uses rear wheel unloading)
engine braking(rear wheel unloading)
and feinting(uses yaw)

and by the way, there are good drivers that got away with ff show drifting...
kyle of hawaii(uses gravity when going downhill) and takahashi(uses high speeds)....they are able to hold long skids but they are very skilled.

Quote from Stang70Fastback :Thats what I was saying. The only accidents at our school involved cars with too much power. But TOO much power means 200+ bhp (or ever 300 in some cases there.) 135 hp is LESS than almost ALL of the cars at my school had, and no-one seemed to have any trouble controlling those raging horses under the 'bonnet.'

well, in my city, practically every kid is spoiled with a brand new 30k car. we here, have evos, z's, infinity skylines, and gti rabbits(fastest guy in school). they all have atleast 300 bhp.

and yes it's all relative, guess everyone in my neighborhood is competent enough to handle "beasts"

the most powerful thing i have driven is my cousin's 250is with around 200 hp... felt a little too tame...

and i have also driven a 70's 911 and it kinda scared me... i expect that a lot of hp escaped...

Quote from tristancliffe :WTF! How does a button requiring you to press the clutch save 'the engine's lifespan'? Can you refrain from posting about semi-technical stuff until you've finished kindergarten?

well, "bumping" the car along with the starter motor and repeatedly stalling the car couldn't be good for the engine could it?

and BTW, i start in 1st, i just have the clutch depressed when i start the car.:sheep:

yes, you would stall if you try to move the car with the starter motor, why would you NOT have a mechanism that prevents you from doing that?(although it's redundant) it would save your car's engine's lifespan if you are learning manual. and there is already a mechanism on the lfs cars, it's called inertia, it stops your car and your engine when you start without the clutch depressed

^i only instigate people in the topics i am interested in, to get responses faster, but i truly hate nascar.

it is hypocritical(STOCK CAR racing?!?!? there's barely anything stock on stock-cars)

It's on oval circuits, why only two wide BANKED turns?

and it's like drag racing it's all about how fast your car can go, you might need to employ throttle control and clutch control to shift better, but that's it. it's not real driving. the only thing exciting is the speed.

but ok, why not just have a big flat skid pad? and have people drive in circles? there, you can do all the stock car racing you want on lfs.

drifting is basically driving over the limit, racing is AT the limit, but i think these sims are supposed to be car physics simulators.

the reason i started this is to find out people's opinions and i don't like how people discriminate against other games, calling it "acrcade", i want to have played everything before i make a comitment.

That Is Why I Am Going To: demo a roster of sims this weekend

well, i just thought the cars where going slow, or they have good tires...

and i have not voted yet, the one ps3 vote was a mistake from someone else, they said "whoops, ment pc"

Quote from Bob Smith :WTH is that anyway? Essentially, racing is about keeping slip angles to a minimum (given that you're trying to go as fast as possible), while drifting is about keeping slip angles as high as possible. Where does this "drift-racing" fit into that?

lol, drift-racing, oxymoron...

but yes, you can somehow utilize drifting in racing. but DRIFTING the SPORT is all about stunt driving and showing off your car control. in no way is is competitive of speed.(high speed drifting to show off car control but they are not trying to achieve efficiency)

then i have no idea why auto companies would give free licencing to GT since they are so good and would be equivalent to free advertising.

PS. the posts about my posting is not relevant to the PS3 conversation. thus off topic. it doesn't matter if i start a thread that you guys so passionately hate(which i now discover). but i am just not giving up hope on the gt5 yet, and just wondering what you guys think of the next installment of GT.

and BTW, i am not talking about gt because of it's [gorgeous]graphics. it's because of it's [supposedly] coveted physics
it might have weird physics in the previous games but it's still hard to drive and, by definition, NOT an arcade game.

arcade type game- easy to play but amusing.
ie-Forza, where every car has massively unlimited grip.

from what i heard from friends it seems like the gt will NOT be the same as before, it's said to be a huge leap from GT4.

and also, i don't think that controllers are a valid argument against a console, since ultimately you are going to get a wheel for the driving games.

well, i have yet to test out prologue since my friend says he got hold of it on ps network(he has a japanese account)

well, @sam:An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response.

I define it as posting a controversial topic, and i am not just bored, i am actually curious as to what game has the best physics, and i just wanted to ask about gt. So it has been confirmed that LFS has the BEST traction modeling according to what i read on the boards, right?

I was planning on doing an experiment with a bunch of games on my next long weekend.
the list consists of:
-LFS
-RBR
-NC2003
-Rfactor
-GPL
-GTL
-GT5 prologue
