First come first serve, dude. I'll set up 20 slots. GURU have precedence, though. If this format is as popular as it seems, maybe we should make it a regular?
I'll try that as well, with my servers. It's could be just a copy/paste of configs that made the servers use the same ports? I het my ports messed up all the time...
It's first come, first serve. The server holds 20, so.. looks like the server will be full. Should be a good race.. very mixed skills too. I'm hopoelessly off the pace. My goal is to finish.
Besides.. almost 2 hours of race time.. Consistency will beat blistering pace any day. A good, stable setup that can do consistent times lap after lap without burning rubber is gonna do it!
The race should last almost 2 hours, I guess.. using an average laptime of 2:45 times 38 laps is about an hour 45 minutes. Give or take. So that should end the race about 22:45.
But why did you let the little wienerschnitzel stay on the server that long in the first place? Had that been my server he'd be so banned you wouldn't believe it.. I'd happily abort my race to ban that twerp.
But does it really take you 5-10 minutes to refresh your server list? Mine takes like maybe 30 seconds, tops. And that's if you list all servers. You have pretty good server filters in there you know. Unclick empty, full and private servers and the list is much shorter.
GURU is alive and kicking again, thanks to the new patch and the renewed interest from the members.
The race will be held on a GURU dedi server at 21.00 (9pm) CET, saturday april 29th.
Track: Aston Grand Touring
Cars: GTR
Laps: 38 (304km)
Starting grid: reversed PB order.
The server will be open a good while in advance for practice.
Please post here if you're interested.
And if any of you are wondering what GURU is, take a look at our website on (temporary) www.norbirds.net
That music was awesome! I love the timing of the clip with the music. Towards the end, when the brakelight coinsided with the boom in the music... I got goosebumps.. literally! Awesome!
I'd love to get my hands on the title of that music, though...
Still... 600kB is no problem for many servers, including mine. My connection can easily push 1.2MB/s constantly and burst of 2MB/s (but not reliably). I don't see why an option would be bad. As long as all clients have a ping of 66ms or less it should be fine. Maybe we could get a test patch with the raised limit just to see what happens? I'm guessing most clients could cope with 10pps or higher easily.
I'm on wireless as well, and I have no problems. I used a wireless USB thingy before, and that was bad... Real bad. Now I got a proper PCI solution that works almost as good as a wired network. Almost.
My GURU server is set with smoothness =6. I very rarely have warping on that server, and I I do it's the client that can't keep up. The extra packets put a 50-75% extra strain on the server connection, and for all clients, so it's a price to pay.
Besides, it's Ferrari's home track. They have a lot of testing done here. The Ferrari chassis work very well there. It's Scumi's favourite track too, so naturally he'll perform good there. It's a combination of a million small factors. Besides, it's not like he beat the grid by 2 seconds.... Maybe he lucked out?
We're on a very temporary domain called www.norbirds.net. It's mainly a financial issue that will be resolved come may. For now, I guess everybody has been too busy waiting for the patch to do anything GURU related, adn now that it's out, everybody will be driving again. It's gonna get a revival for sure!
Have you heard the one about the ... Nah, I won't go there..
So back on topic; Getting a BMW Sauber into the game involve a lot of politics, licensing, dry lawyer's talk and I presume a good deal of brown-nosing by someone. Not quite sure who, though. Maybe Mario himself had to kiss some booty to get his car in LFS? Now there's a though...
