ANd yet it adds immensely to the immersion when it's done right.

Very smooth and wide track, not much speed reference makes you go alot faster than you think. Especially after a while on the french alpine roads.. :-)

Quote from Crashgate3 :Just got the Steam version, installing now

Any tips for starting out?

Get off the beach, get inland. Much bigger chance of loot and survival. It's like D-Day in Cherno, where lamers are killing off Bambies at a high rate.

I really like the realistic sense of grip on the french stage. Probably from not going track speeds and actually feeling the speed. 120kph feels like frigging warp speed. Amazing fun, like being back in the alps!

Seems there's quite a few shortcuts taken with the engine, really. Not really near finished at all, I'd say. Amazing how well it feels in most cases despite the alpha status, though.

So a picture of a thumb and a sentence about a discussion of turbos is confirmation, when all evidence ingame says it's a very simplified model in there yet? Ok....

Quote from tiagox :Yes there is

How do you figure that?

It shows ffb, and it never clips there. It goes up to about 85% on the bar unless I hit major bumps. But it still clip the ffb severely as soon as I turn the wheel a little. This is with the T500RS, which many users complain about lacking ffb, so it might be a compatability issue.

No, there's a bump in the torque curve. The engine model in the game is pretty much non-existent at the moment.

There is some ffb clipping going on somewhere that I just can't figure out. Very evident in the F40. On the straights of modern Monza the wheel is alive and feels like I think it would in an old supercar. Start turning and the wheel coes into constant force mode. The bar ingame stays grey, but very even, where on the straight it's jumping and oscillating. So I think the clipping is in the code somewhere, and no amount of fiddling with the control settings will fix it.

Also the VERY simplistic engine model and turbo model is ruining the F40 a little. The chassis is one of the better I've tried in a sim so far, but the unrealistic bump in the torque curve ruin the feeling a little, since the turbo lag is such a prominent feature of the F40.

I had a ten lap race on Nordschleife in GT5 a while back that stands out as the single greatest simracing event of my life. Me and a friend drove in the early morning going REALLY hard all ten laps. That's almost a GP distance and took longer since we were in Mitsu Evo X cars. We were door to door for a very large portion of that race, and swapped positions so many times. We finished within a second of each other, and both of us went very close to 100% effort throughout.

That was truly satisfying, and a lap of the real thing feels kinda the same in many ways. Concentration is so high, g-forces and adrenaline make for a thoroughly unique experience. No other track I've driven require the same level of concentration and effort to be really fast on, and there is no way to have as intimate knowledge of every piece of the tarmac that you can on other, shorter tracks.

You are aware that there are WELL matching turbos that can be fitted to a normally aspirated engine? I agree there are an infinite number of ways to ruin a good looking and well performing car, there are an infinite number of ways to IMPROVE an existing car too....

People who like to actually look at cars like to modify the looks over performance.

Also, I think this guy will appreciate the exhaust swap, as will most people that appreciate a good exhaust note:

So you see, Tristan, there's this whole other world out there, that doesn't revolve around your person. Maybe you should check it out sometime?

Well, that's what the drifter crowd does, innit?

For racing I think the supercharged TRD 86 would be awesome!

Coilovers, bigger brakes, a tiny bit of downforce and bigger wheels/tires along with 260whp and a little more torque would make for an excellent racer.

Quote from Scrabby :Well, the E30 M3 is an iconical car to say the least. The Silvia... not so much. Most japanese car enthousiasts (especially drifters) would love to see this car in the game but the chances it will be a likely zero. It doesn't bring anything special compared to the other cars in the game. And they're not that great in stock form...

A GT86 would have a greater chance to be in the game then the Silvia, but would not really be a addition to the game for me. Don't get me wrong, I've driven the car for quiet a time and love the handling etc... But I find it too slow on track.

And it's also pretty cool that they stuck an E46 M3 engine into the E30, would be my choice in real life too! (or use my M3 engine)

Imagine what they could do with the GT86 platform...

Fredrik Aasbø put a NASCAR engine in his monster, and many drifters have a Supra engine in it. There's also a supercharger kit and loads of TRD parts that could easily come as an upgrade package.

You'd be wrong of course, because in the end they're just different games with different priorities. They're all still in development too.
.

They have expressly stated that they will not leave the polygon wheels, which means the cars in the game will never behave anywhere near realistic. Hence my statement is still true.
It is fun going over rocky terrain though, where the polygon tires are masked by the terrain.

Friend of mine has an Evora and I've sat with him on track. Feels spot on, and also my favourite car until they get my GT86 in there!

I think you'd be surprised how much bodyroll you can achieve. Also, you are usually turning alot harder than you think in game, especially with the FOV set to default. What looks like shallow corners are almost hairpins, and I'm sure if you look at your lateral G-meter while passing a car you are yanking the wheel harder than you think....

You'd think that people trying to make a driving game/engine would care about getting something as fundamental as tires at least resembling real life. But they have clearly stated that they are not. That's when I gave up. It is a nice crash-simulator, that's it.

The Evora is spot on too. I've been in one on track with a friend of mine, and according to him it's spot on in every respect. It feels and drives just like it felt as a passenger, and sounds pretty much right as well. It's my favourite car so far.
