Regarding turbos and spool time: I have limited experience driving turbo cars. My car has a turbo, although it is a small one. It is currently set to produce about 1.4bar of peak boost. The boost comes on really quick if I am at anything over 3000rpm. The boost drop off relatively quickly as the little turbine can't deliver the volume of air it's being asked to. That means the car surges off the line, and pulls pretty evenly as the rpm increase. I have max torque at around 3500rpm. Having that powercurve in the RB4 would be awesome. BTW, my figures are 209hp(6300), 365Nm(3500). Bit weak for the class, but the powerband would feel better, I think.
So basically I'm saying I agree with jamexing, here..
I ride a slightly tuned (209hp/355Nm) VW Passat 1.8T. It's got A/C, so no need for a bike! I can even ride in the rain. And I don't have to worry about people not seeing me, hitting me, throwing things at me and getting run over. And in case of a crash, I'm pretty sure Car 1 - Bike 0...
Yes it does. It is the very same, with a new DNS pointer.. Hopefully we'll get a bit more active when this damn summer thing is over and we get back to rain and sleet like we're used to.
I have an old MSFF lying around. that's 7 years old, and I average about 2 hours a day with it (or used to). That's still godd as new, and I'm pretty vigorous. My DFP has lasted a year with heavy use, and no signs of wear. Play with it, dude, you're not gonna break it!
What you're seeing there is the standing wave patterns of the plate the rice is on. Nothing mysterious, but very cool. You can see how the pattern gain complexity as the frequency goes up.
it's the dongle, dude.. i have the same stuff, and when I switched to a PCI wireless solution it was so much better... Even if the dongle report better signals (better antenna-placement) I get small pauses and all sorts of problems. Now it's smooth as a baby's bottom!
I'll try to get another session set up tonight, to test some setup ideas for the XFG. Hope some of you will join. I'll make the server public, so we get some more racers. I have a GURU race scheduled for saturday, but sunday should be fine. When the sets are balanced I will set up a 'production cup' where you all can join the fun!
I'll set up a server for testing my 'roadgoing' setups for balance and realism.
The sets are supposed to be slow and soft, like any non-sporty roadcar would be set up.
I will password the server to get rid of some of the non-serious drivers. If you are interested, please post here or send me a PM, and I'll give you the password.
Edit: The server will open around 9pm CET, maybe a bit earlier. The cars are XFG and XRG.
We will race different tracks and session lengths, to test the setups under different and varied conditions. The point of these sets is fun and realism, not speed.
I made some vids to show a little bit of what my road sets are all about. Not very inspiring, and the low framerate take a lot of the subtlety out of all the little chassis movements, but still..
I will release the sets when they are tested a little more...
Well.. In any car you can easily control and adjust the tirepressures. In the Lupo cup you can. It's the one parameter you are allowed to adjust, along with fuel.
The setups I made are simulated road cars, not raceprepped at all. Not even sporty. So tall, soft suspension, understeer, all the thing we all know and love from our own cars. me and Lazer had a LOT of fun racing these sets, because the cars act so much like your family car would. So the sets are pretty forgiving, and mouse/kb should handle them fine. The point is that the field is even, and the ones that can wring the most out of the car will win in the end. Running the actual league is pretty basic, and I have the apparatus to back that up. The idea of having everybody send the set before pitting is a good one. Of course one can change fuel and tire pressure, you can do that on any car, so you should be able to do it on track.
Good ideas, everybody, I'll set this up as soon as possible!
PS. watching my setups in action on the skidpan is awesome!
I've made daily-driver sets for the Gti and GT.
I'd really like to start a production cup, but forcing a set is not possible in LFS. How could one enforce a fixed setup cup?
Here's a good post by Gimpster on the subject. From RSC
If any of you guys wanna see how it's done you should come watch me and LazerFX racing the XFG on Blackwood. We have been doing that quite a bit lately. Neither is very fast, but we are within 0.2 every lap, and NEVER give each other pause to breathe. A 5 lap race is exhausting, but huge fun! I'll save a replay of us going at it one day.
At the GURU servers we also encourage clean driving, and if any GURU is on track please feel free to ask for pointers, setups, tips and whatever else LFS related. Speaking for myself, I'll easily give up racing for a while to help a new guy get better. Usually I end up having close clean races with that same guy later in the evening. I've seen it so many times, and I hope other do the same courtesy.
I was shown the ropes back in early demo days by one of the greats of LFS, Sinbad. That one night has kept me in LFS since. There's no substitute for on-track experience!
