ping doesnt work either

thats exactly my situation, most of the times the master server doesnt respond or takes ages to do so, 80% of the servers drop me before i can get in, when i do get in i time out 90% of the times. my ping list is around 60 to 120, i dont risk playing with much more because i know what will happen.
i have a 2mbit cable connection, shared with a buddy, and i think its connected by usb, but anyway, every form of internet activity goes smooth just like avih, from ftp to http, bittorrent, other online games like call of duty and ET work fine, no issues at all, but when i fire up lfs its just dissapointing.
ive lost count of how many times i was having a nice lap/battle and suddenly the wheel loses FF screen goes black and that dreaded beep beeping: timed out, i even raced as time out a few times. ill try the ethernet card on the modem instead of usb but i dunno if this can solve anything.

yes and if it displayed our name like naburu said would be a nice touch, instead of numbered pits, but then you'd want a pit crew signaling you in, maybe some pit babes also

hmm first thing i did in s2 was a burnout till they were flat

thx for explaining, i have a msff and i certainly feel the difference, and i agree it must be different for other wheels, but who races with 720º??

well if more people have the same problem then scawen might look into it, altough i thought lfs worked fine with most of the wheels, perhaps a negative ff as in other games.
edit: i just payed a visit to the wingman site and it says:

so maybe you should get an older version of the software if it is supported, also you should pay attention to the unninstall of the 4.6 drivers as is stated in the website.

the wheel compensation at 1 is too much for the normal cars i believe, or atleast im used to lower values, i use 0.1 for all road cars and 0.5 or more in the formula cars.
how can you drive with the combined axis?? must be pretty weird hehe, hope you sort out those issues.

ive had to reverse my msff to play gtr and rfactor demos i believe but not in lfs, maybe try the drivers?

hehe back in s1 you could make almost a monster truck with really big wheels on the rear and just wheelie the quarter mile :P

well i have my own opinion, in my real life car, a corsa diesel with no power steering, the wheel does get lighter but not that much, on a friends punto with power steering i could barely tell the diference when i was understeering. just my 2c

i just think the AI isnt as important as some of the physics updates or whatever it is that the man is doing, i believe it wont be that hard to make them pit and refine their behaviour on track, its just not as important as some other things in the to do list.

it works thx vain for that tip, some googling found me the answer, i had to edit asound.state and paste some code to activate gameport.
well it runs alot better than i hoped to, trick is to enable simple track
too bad that the wheel has some sort of input lag and of course no FF but i had it running from around 30 to 40 fps in the cockpit and 40-100 in the bumper cam, mirrors working fine, multiplayer also no prob, only noticeable thing is the blueish textures in some places

yeah locate fine in /lib/modules/2.6.12-10-686/kernel/drivers/input/joydev.ko
now i really dunno what to do more ive loaded as much modules as i could that have anything to do with joysticks;joydev,gameport,ns558,sidewinder,analog.
when i installed joystick it asked me when to detect devices and i put in at boot but no go. im out of ideas and searching the web for this kind of info isnt easy, i guess itll never work

yes i have no js in /dev/input, i installed joystick from sinaptic, rebooted but still nothing, also those 2 modprobes didnt work, they say module not found
also tried modprobe gameport, sidewinder, and they appear in lsmod but they dont work, i believe i first must have a js in /dev/input but cant seem to do so.

i did so but nothing changed, lfs doesnt see the wheel and i have no way of checking if its working, maybe im missing some modules(like if i would know what to do with them :P) i forgot to mention my msff is gameport, i tried to load gameport and sidewinder modules but i see no changes, im such a noob with this i wouldnt see it until lfs does hehe.

yes the first link ive been there, it also mention it works with kernel 2.4 when im using 2.6, another thing is how to install and configure it proper as im not that keen in linux.im surprised ive got it to work

i'd like to see a reason for kicking or banning like say in irc, click ban/kick next to name a little box comes up with reason and there you go, making this an option ofcourse

yeah but i have a microsoft wheel so i'd be pretty lucky if it works even without the FF :P anyway i dont understand much about linux and its ways but google hasnt helped, neither do the ubuntu forums.

i installed ubuntu the other day and yep lfs works fine with latest wine 0.9.7 i think, installed it off sinaptic, and it works fine, if you dont forget to sudo wine, my question is if there is any chance my msff wheel will work in ubuntu? i know the FF is pretty much out of the question, but recognizing the device and making it available would be enuff for me

that 6600gt will be choked there, that cpu is a bottleneck for that card, i should know i have a p4 2.4 and its still not enough.

lol gtl is a funny game, i also tried the dx7 and all on low and the result was crappy performance, altough with dx9 and somethings on high and others in medium it ran around 30-50fps except for some parts in that it would choke for no reason. also the camera view influences alot the fps like in lfs, after the race is over and the computer takes control of the car the fps jump to 90+ strangely. sure is one wierd game engine.
