never seen this, i just tried it quickly and it works fine here atleast, most of the times ill just select text and right click -> search web for ...
you sure its not something with the kb?
im no expert but an open port is only dangerous if a service is running in that port, specificly a service that can be exploited, i dont think theres any danger of forwarding a port to your pc and even so lfs uses some very high port numbers.
i suggest you have him download the game from www.liveforspeed.net again or you can send him the file, but if that one is missing i wonder what else is, the file is named "hmn.hmn" and is in lfs/data/hmn, also why did you make 3 diferent posts if you can ask questions on either one?
heh i saw that episode with the gt4 comparison, funny stuff, he complained the most about being afraid to crash the car if he tried to do as in gt4, i dont remember but i think he was a good 10seconds slower IRL. he also said the corkscrew is scary as hell hehe
yeah personally i had only tried slackware a long time ago and a few months ago i hoped in the ubuntu dapper thing to try out xgl/compiz, i like it but im the first to say that its not snappy as my xp is, but i dont have a clean install as i had tested for a few months and its taking up like 6gb of space but its full of dev files and not really needed stuff unless you plan to build some stuff from source. i also tried gentoo but it seemed a bit too complicated for the normal user, having to build stuff is cool but its slow and prebuilt packages are just easier to use for the average user, ill try FC if i get an iso of that, but as it is i think im addicted to wobbly things
yeah rsc is soooo painfully slow, i like the avatars i think it gives a lil touch to the users profile, but its not that bad as it is and it surely takes some load of the host.
lol indeed so it seems, .run files are to be used in the command line normally by using "sh" but if you want to install 3d drivers then there are alot of howto's, nvidia drivers are available in synaptic, dunno about ati, anyway nvidia howto here and ati howto here
these are for ubuntu breezy but they are useful for dapper aswell as i think there are some links in there.
wine doesnt work as good as cvscedega for me, in linux lfs will be locked even if you unlock from windows. good howto here
after that you should need to change some options as lfs' cars show up transparent and stuff, i added this to my cvscedega config file:
;; LFS
[AppDefaults\\LFS.exe\\d3dgl]
"PixelShaders" = "Y"
"NV_VAR" = "Y"
"ClipSpaceFix" = "N"
that pic you posted shows 3 X axis, something is clearly wrong there, you should have X Y and Z or RZ dunno about that particular model, i own a gameport ms ff and i use no drivers also just the autodetect stuff from xp, as it is a USB wheel maybe you should try other ports.three X axis cant be a good sign so its not going to work that way, also combined pedals arent the best choice.
this has been like this since s1 if i remember, dunno if it was like this in the demo and it will stay like this until weather/time changes and proper lighting later on i guess.
so you got a celeron processor, onboard sound and a pci gfx card, seriously what did you expect? it prolly should give more fps but it is a celeron and this is most likely due to drivers or windows thing than lfs' fault, check updated drivers for mobo, sound, gfx, ide drivers and all of those, and try to put the windows factor apart by formatting or cleaning up the hd.
no daemon, ive had crashes in that my monitor loses signal and sits there with a black screen for 2 or 3 mins, sound looping and it eventually shows the bsod pointing to nv4 something, if the auto reboot thing is on for him i wouldnt doubt it would take 5-10 mins for it to reboot, in my case i found it was write combining in windows to be causing the crashes, but every computer is different and its not always easy to find out what it is whether its SW or HW problem.
strange thing is only lfs crashes if i turn that option on again, every game i have tried so far,and ive tried alot of them , never had a problem with it.
