I think there'd only be one model (road and track variants) because of the democratic car limit.. There's no vote on new cars, but the game is made for an audience that IMO doesn't have tolerance for more than one muscle car. I'd be glad to be wrong though.
Quote from Dajmin :There's plenty of ways you can combine parts of each car. Burnout Paradise has a car that looks like a big chunky hybrid of 65 Mustang and 67 Camaro, with a bit of 69 Charger mixed in - something like that would be a dream come true.

Yep...
Quote :It might end up too similar to the XR though, that'd be my biggest worry.

I don't think Scavier would make such an obvious mistake as making the a car too much like the XR. It'd be heavier.. closest existing analog, I think, would be a front-engined FZR. The muscle car archetype is too different from everything we have in LFS so far for that to really be worrying. They've already shown that they know how to make up cars. Giving it leaf springs would probably be enough to break any such impression

Assuming there's only going to be one muscle car in LFS, it's going to be some synthesis of all muscle cars. An old muscle car or 30's hotrod/ratrod isn't going to be what LFS can use, and the latest traditionaly american sports/supercars designs don't have enough of the old character.. So the sweet spot would be some compromise between the two. I think there's plenty of material to improvise a muscle car that a lot more than just the muscle car fans will like.

Scavier wouldn't add a muscle car that had too many of the worst aspects of the type. It wouldn't completely handle like a brick with cooked fronts, it wouldn't feel like it sank into the tarmac everytime it cornered, it wouldn't have an automatic gearbox, nor a 4 speed... None of that would fit in LFS' scheme. None of the characteristics that the american muscle cars like the Vette, Viper, and also older ones like the Chevelle etc, or that the Aussie muscle cars also share, are disqualifying for LFS.
A muscle car'd be one more type of car for the LFS car-set and with some work Scavier will make it fit in. Just like every other type of car in LFS so far. The FZ5 and RAC made the cut despite "not cornering" like a front engined and/or FWD car that're so much more conventional to flog. The latest ZR1 lapped the ring on par with the latest GT-R, breaking records along the way... Hardly a big automatic 300bhp V8 that isn't very fast.

Quote from tristancliffe :The country of origin has nothing to do with it.

Adding electronics to cover up poor driving standards isn't the way to a safer future in my opinion, but I can see that some safety nets are a good thing in family cars. But I hope that "drivers' cars" don't cede to making a computer control the ultimate ability of the car. Drivers' cars should be about the driver having fun, being involved in the driving, and getting something out of it...

But I'm a purist that takes a great deal of pleasure in my ability behind the wheel of a car, and looks to improve himself in every regard of driving every time I'm in the car. I don't want a Playstation on wheels - it strikes me as being zero fun, regardless of the speeds/laptimes acheived.

I thought the same till I saw Jackson point out the opposite, that it's engaging and does feel mechanic, to the point of being thrilling from what he looked and sounded like.

Quote from JCTK :why should they stick with an engine that has got its basic structures designed back in the late 80s, which was some 20 years ago~?

It's like putting a flat 6 turbo in a Lambo. It had become part of the car's character. Sure sounded nice anyway, better than the more common V6 layout.

Tinvek I've heard that the stock tranny only copes with 600HP or so.

Quote from Mustafur :Stoner seems to be the equlivent of Alonso in motoGP, but he does have skill, hes riding style suits perfectly to the Ducati.

Alonso's vain and pompous, Stoner's just immature.

Skins don't "mean" shit either.. And it's not a huge task to add to the game. A small selection of rims would add to the aesthetics of cars without detracting from the sim aspects.

Patch Z is out already / let's have the Tweak already / just the 3 demo cars as usual (as opposed to Bob's formula I guess) would be enough, because playing with new car specs is a world of difference compared to the old V physics-based tweaks..
New physics and sounds would be great on the Z patch XRT. etc.

Bespoke tangent: It would be really cool if Scawen & co had a competition for the best rims as they did for the LX skins. Obviously a good chunk of guys will want to make fast & furious bling rims, so all Scavier would have to do is specify that the rims have to be realistic - look like what you'd find on a trackday car.. Those would be a bit different from racing rims, so they could have a road/trackday category, and another for racing models, and maybe another for rallyx. Although I don't know if the cars we have would really use different wheels for rallyx tracks.

Then you just integrate a bespoke-like module to LFS.. The only flaw I see with this plan is if the wheel shapes could have an effect on lap times. I guess they could be disabled entirely in hotlap mode, and possibly have a server-side flag to toggle them on and off.

Yep, it wouldn't be much fun without sharper and lighter handling.

Everything else mentionned, and it's a great game that doesn't take itself seriously.

Physx wouldn't help with chassis flex?

Quote from LFSn00b :And i wonder why have they changed them... Possible night weather?

If for no other reason, because the XRR looked odd (as an endurance model) with only the small secondary lights. Those didn't provide any real illumination like headlights (racing, no less) are supposed to provide.

Quote from Tweaker :If you think posts like those are slowing down development.... you really need to get your head out of your arse.....

Right. Filtering pertinence out of a 50% spam solution is faster than one 90-100% spam free.

The guys that made Physx looked like they just wanted to introduce some technology that was just novel enough that it could be hyped enough to attract a buyer > liquidate their crap and fill their pockets from the buyout. It was just a hunch at first, but halfway thru it, it wasn't far fetched at all to imagine them coming up with that exact plan as their business model from the start, powerpoint engineering and all.

I don't care all that much about the interiors either. The feedback from the car, what it's doing under your hands and feet is what's vital. That's what makes the cars; those are the real ergonomics.

Press F11 and change the values with the arrow keys. Not all cars allow it.

That's what excessive off-topic spam in the test-patch threads does. If you want to thank scawen, start a thread with "Thanks Scawen, for X" where X is what you appreciate Scawen or Eric or Victor has done.. Or if you have suggestions that aren't going to directly help out with squashing bugs introduced by the test patches, start one in GD or Improvement Suggestions.. At most you could succinctly introduce it to Scawen by a link to it in the Test Patch thread. It's unlikely they won't notice those.

But posting off topic stuff in the test-patch thread just clogs it and forces Scawen to wade thru it all trying to get some work done. That's no way to thank him for his efforts.

Why can't you guys post all the suggestions not related to bug reports in the general discussion thread?

Is there any way to reduce the shine on the rims? There ought to be a slider for it next to the ones for their color.

Take out the building and you're left with a flat and featureless void with some background scenery, without a real sense of depth. Add some tarmac area but don't take out the building.

Speaking of FZ updates.. Don't mean to open a can of worms, but couldn't the FZ5's exhaust end pipes be updated to be a bit more realistic?

Thanks for everything Scawen.

Quote from Boris Lozac :Great news Scawen

But, can we please get a sinsere answer as to wheter we can expect a completely new track in the near future? Is it in the plan, is it in development, just a clear answer on this just so people can atleast have some hope We've been patient all these years and i think that people deserve an honest answer about this... Thanks ahead

This isn't a rimshot, but look at what he said. That's an honest report on those things. It's coming along with everything else, whether he spoils the surprise or not
