I´m lurking in this thread for quite a few weeks now and I cannot decide if AC is for me or not.
I played nearly everything Sim related since the C64, was still in love with GPL when I played LFS for years, I also played all the GTR series, but the LFS physics were always the best for me. GPLs tire physics had its flaws, but it felt pretty natural anyway. But LFS beat them all.

I know you cannot judge driving physics by Videos, but is ACs physics more like LFS or does it go more the GTR route?
I don´t like the sounds of ACs cars, but if the physics are on par or even better than in LFS (which means that grip should feel natural no matter what speed you go, for example GTR had pretty bad low speed grip physics IMHO), I might grab it while it´s still in Early Access.

I´ve heard that the will release the Nordschleife in a big DLC pack together with 10 other cars and if you buy AC in early access you will also get a discount on that. But all this only makes sense when the physics are damn good. I don´t care much for graphics and sounds, but the physics must be near pefect.

Since this is the LFS forum, everyone here is familiar with the LFS physics and can compare, so I would be happy to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

Lancia Thesis:

I don´t know how many have been produced, but I´ve read somewhere that around 70 have been registered in Germany. Probably by dealers only, looking at that thing and how ugly it is. But I have seen one "in the wild" once.

Found it on the Sidebar of the Video you posted. The talking in the beginning is German (unusually interesting) and after a few minutes the racing starts. Impressive driving by that old fart, guess he (Peter Zakowski) wanted to have "his car" look good :-)

That rear view camera is interesting. It seems to tag the Cars behind you and then shows the driver on which side they are overtaking

Another old fart lurking around here. When the last big Update was announced "some time ago" I said to my wife, that I will play again when the update is out. The first 24 months where hard, but then you find other hobbies

I got more and more into Flight Sims (again) and since 3 weeks a HOTAS and some pedals arrived to get more seriously into DCS World.

When there will be the big physics update in this or the next decade, I hope that my G25 is still working and then I´m sure I will be back. Until then I think I will blow up some tanks, get shot down by SAMs and other stuff...

But I am still reading this place nearly daily, at least briefly to see "what´s new".

Quote from ACCAkut :Anyone still remebers Palatov and his DP1? He tackles Pike Peak this year with a (iirc) Turbo Hayabusa powered car.

Full test run up the mountain (now 100% paved)

Thanks for that Video. It reminds me that they mentioned in the last "Speedgang" show Sorry, for everyone else, it´s an Austrian Show, that Walter Röhrl will drive up the Pikes Peak with the S1 Pikes Peak again. It´s a shame that the whole track is paved now. That car is clearly made for gravel. I don´t mind the guard railing, it adds to security. But the whole thing paved makes it much less interesting to watch :-(

I remember an Interview with Walter after he drove up the Pikes Peak in 1987. He said, that he was impressed seeing the recordings from a Helicopter after the race and how "the car" drove up that road. He did not even mention himself. This guy´s just fantastic.

Quote from BigPeBe :Very lovely. I especially enjoyed the 3-cylinder triumph (like a miniature V6).
Don't think I have ever heard such a good recording of engines that when it idles closely I can recognice the sound of the valve train on my other ear and the exhaust on the other.

I'm also gonna listen to the other recordings too (rally cars at least), even if they're not as awesome as these.

I´m glad that you enjoyed it. The Triumph Soundfile is the one I like the most too. Something comparable to what you describe can be heard on the S4 Soundfile when the Car stops and the engine is shut down. Right after the sound from the Exhaust starts to stop because the combustion in the engine stops, you still can hear how the engine sucks in some air.

I have tons of Race Recordings here on my old Video Camera Tapes and whenever I watch one of these I regret that I did not spend more money on my Camcorder to get one where you can level out the Sound manually. But they where so damn expensive back then

It´s good to know that there are people out there whose ears can hear such small details. I´m pretty sure you´re also a good listener to Music and hear things others don´t.
What I hate especially on Youtube Videos is when they write in the Title, that the sound is LOUD.

1. It´s only as loud as I turn up my volume.
2. Distorted is not loud, it just sounds crap and ruins many otherwise very nice Videos.

Too much OT now, I guess I need to stop here ;-)

Since there seem to be a few people having an ear for good quality recordings, maybe I have something for you. Clearly not "the best sounding cars / bikes" in these Soundfiles, but back then when we recorded them we had some pretty nice equipment available. I wished most other recordings you find in the Net would have the same amount of dynamic range (I hope it´s called like that).

I can´t remember the exact kind of equipment we used, but involved was a DAT recorder on which we manually set the levels properly before each recording. It was attached to a Microphone made like an artificial Head and for checking the records we had some really nice AKG Headphones. The recordings where so good that once I checked one of the Sound files and heard a slight cracking noise (we where standing on gravel), I turned around to see who´s there

Long story short:
Sound Files section of my Homepage

Soundfiles recorded with the above mentioned equipment are:
  • Misc and Bikes --> psychos_triumpg_t509.mp3
  • Audi --> buedis_audi_s4_42.mp3
  • Ford --> psychos_ford_crown_victoria.mp3
Beware! If your Audio Equipment is more biased to have more bass you will have a problem in the beginning of most of the Soundfiles, since they are recordings inside the Car. You may need to fast forward to the external recordings then.

There are more Soundfiles, but many of them where only recorded using a Sony DCR-TRV828 in connection with a Sony ECM-S959C. Unfortunately this is only a Consumer Camcorder and so I was not able to set the recording level. These recordings clearly miss the dynamic of the above mentioned recordings
Very nice!

If you visit the northern parts of Germany some time and interested in this stuff, this is the place to visit. You can spend a whole day here and you won´t spot all the details. It´s just amazing.

And as ACCAkut already mentioned, watch the Gerrtits Tagebuch Videos. You won´t believe what they do in the background with the models, the landscape builds and the Software

I hope the C63 will not also substitute the SLS as a pace car.
Sadly this one sounds like they forgot to put an exhaust on it at all. In my ears the SLS sounds just beautiful. Surprisingly not as "dirty" as the street Version on downshifts. But decide yourself.

Yupp, spent half of the evening now to find some external Program which does exactly what we had in the LX Month. That would really be a nice feature, especially when you want to host a competition. I´d really like to see that in one of the future Updates. I mean, it worked for the LX Month, so it is probably a stable feature?

Yep, just use the Link from Eddy to get the current Version. If you have LFS installed already, you don´t have to care for the Version. When you click on Multiplayer and LFS tries to get the list of Servers, it will kindly remind you if a newer Version is available and you can just click on a Download button within the game.
So there´s no manual download and copying of files needed for LFS. It´s more or less reminding you and installing the Updates automatically.

Quote from KiRmelius :For me, Buran is much more interesting and awesome than Shuttles. Too bad it ended up like that...

There are two prototypes of Buran still not crashed, one with airplane engines, built for training purposes, parked in Baikonur, and another one, half built, without wings, covered with huge tarpaulin, in Moscow. All of them are visible in google earth, even the original one, with it's broken hangar. But I doubt any of them will be flying again

And one is here in Speyer, Germany

Quote from ACCAkut :I wonder how long it takes till they sell their engine to Lego. Seems like a perfect fit.

You mean Mojang with "they"? I guess never. Lego does not want that... they do not want creative games with their Logo on it. Years ago when Blockland looked like Lego the creator of this fantastic Game talked to Lego and after that he had to alter the game that it does not look like Lego anymore. The community (and I´m sure the creator) hoped, that there will be a deal with Lego. Unfortunately this did not happen.

Now, years after that I think I know why. Lego created Lego Universe. A game where you do not need any creativity at all, where you can´t build anything close to amazing. I think they do this on purpose... and hope that the only way to build fantastic stuff will be with Lego and not in computer games. But now we have Minecraft... and Blockland is still there (although it does look a bit awkward now) and Lords of Uberdark looks promising too.
