Thanks everyone.

Quote from XCNuse :Very nice, loved the wind/tire noise, whatever it was it added some nice immersion into the movie.

There is one thing I did not like about it however, and that would be, you should have taken the FZ50 out before and done some drifting around the turns to give the ground a nice worn from skidmarks look, otherwise it's to clean, but that is just me critiquing small details, but it would have added a nice depth.

I totally agree with you.. But.. As the little text in the beginning suggests, I had to do a lot of laps before I had a decent one. So, you would think, there should be a lot of skidmarks. Well, the replay only gets recorded when you restart a race. But when you restart a race, all the skidmarks disappear too.

It's a ping thingy. Every bar represents a user. The green bar is you. The higher the bars, the higher the pings.

Hey, thanks people. The zooming is indeed a little too fast, really a shame, but when I had finished it I found it added a little to the 'pressure' in the beginning. Problem is I couldn't do it slower..

Anyway, I added a streaming link. But! Beware, it's more compressed then it already was, and it's not as smooth anymore. If really want to view it, just download it via rapidshare or megaupload.

And the laptime was 1.12.58.

Quote from SamH :Lovely! REALLY great!

I don't know if it was intentional (I'm assuming it was), but there was just a *hint* of the sound of the car, when it was close. It sounded like just the tyre sound, and it really added to the feeling. Fabulous vid!

Thanks.

It was supposed to suggest the tyre sound, yes. I didn't want to add an engine sound, because that would screw up the movie. So I added noise sounds to make the car a little more impressive.

Hello,

Since I got some spare time now, I made an other movie.. I used some small idea's from "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" and some Top Gear episodes.

It's a slowmotion movie. Sorry for the compression, kinda screws a lot.
Oh, and I am not going to upload a YouTube version.

Music by Sigur Rós. The song is called 'Refur', from the maxi-single of Saeglépur and Hoppípolla. The little sound design here and there is done by myself, just vinyl noise with a lot of effects over it.

Ah well, just watch it:

720*480 | 50 FPS | 54,2 MB | DivX compressed

Streaming:

Thank you for watching, and please.. Leave a message.

*edit* I've added another link.

I like the first 2.50 mins, great work, nice camera's and effects, very smooth and all. But then it gets like any other drifting movie.. And I don't like drifting at all..

I don't like it very much I'm affraid. Like the other say, it's not very smooth, the textures are a shame, and it needs more close-ups. And the music is just awful..

Quote from heson :Darkone55: It's quite easy to create a realistic contemporary F1 track out of the existing ones, just add boring chikanes!
The lack of horrible accidents in the LFSdimension has spared us the saftey engineering, maybe far future rpg elements (exclusion from league in case of virtual driver death) would create a need.

I'd just like to use my brakepedal aswell, with the BF1..

Quote from mcintyrej :South City? Its kind of like Monte Carlo. In the same sense that crisps are the same as potato chips.

Well, even South City is a lot faster then Monte Carlo I'm affraid. Maybe not Sprint 2, but even the Town track is still pretty fast with the last turn and the very long straight. And T3 is also pretty fast. And at the back before the hairpin too. But at least there's more braking then other LFS circuits. I think South City is a great circuit, but we also need 'normal' tracks that are slow.

Quote from mrodgers :Not only what Dajmin said there about the wind, but also you did not state whether the times listed for real F1 tracks are qualifying records or just fast laps set during racing. Temperature and environment also has quite a bit to do with it as well. A hot and slick track will slow times down and a cooler track and air temperature will speed laps up. LFS's environment is completely static with a set temperature and with WR laps, a set no wind option (can you even set wind in hotlap mode?)

The wind may be a bit of a point, but, if you look at F1 the last few years, there has always been max 3 kph wind..
And all the times were the fastest qualifying times of the BMW team in 2006.
But then still, it are all very very fast turns. There are only a few of them in real F1.

Also the FO8, or FXR can take most turns flat out on Aston Historic, where you can with the BF1 too.

Quote from Jimmy_Lemon :
they will be fast if you only test fast tracks.

try fe club or as cadet

But the length of these tracks isn't very 'real' for an F1 car...

Thanks a lot man! I recorded everything at 720x576 now, and with VirtualDubMod I can cut the rest away and add compression later.

I think you could better get some good CD players, like Pioneer CDJ 800/1000. They're proven to be good, and they're the standard in most clubs. And else you could get some cheaper CD players.

This isn't used by the clubs yet, and it still has to prove itself. If I were you, I think I would wait untill this thing gets bigger. And if you want to use mp3/laptop, you could also get Ableton Live maybe..

But think about it... Vinyl will always sound different. The light crackling, the very light variable pitch. I think DJing gets boring when you use CD/MP3, then you don't even need to stay correction the records.

Hi,

I've got a little problem here. I'm trying to make a movie at 720*480 pixels, but that's not really going well with Adobe Premiere.

First of all, Premiere shows it as a 640*480, so you get black edges at the sides. It also seems to stretch it. But when I add blur, with a matte layer over it, it shows all 720*480 pixels. Can't see if it's still stretch though (see help.jpg). And with blur, without the matte, the edges get blurred too..

Does anyone know what settings I need to use to solve this?
Currently I use:

Frame size: 720 * 480 (3:2)
Pixel aspect ratio: Square pixels (1.0)
Fields: Lower fields first

Maybe the square pixels option is the problem. But it's recorded from the computer, so the original clips should have square pixels already.
It should look like help2.jpg

Then, a different problem. I tried to use Xvid for the compression. But, when the movie is exported I get some weird things going on, see help3.jpg.

Does anyone know how to solve these problems perhaps?
Thanks in advance,

Darkone

Yaay, I've found the files. I've done a fresh LFS install, and then I saw how it looked without the black lines again. Hehe, what a difference. So I had to copy my old files. They're in:

LFS folder /data/knw/[track+number].trs

For example "BL1.trs"

Quote from tristancliffe :Voted for driver B - should have given a little more room. Having sad that, driver C could have lifted.

Awesome game idea by the way. And I like the presenter's voice - clear and well spoken.

Why should he have lifted? His door was at about the same height as the others. He was there before the gap was so small. Driver B had no reason to go to the left. Driver C had no choice, but go to the left too.

If you say it's driver C's fault, it means that the middle car is always wrong when there are three cars near eachother..

Quote from Leprekaun :Thats tight! same 'ole money before driving ability bullsh*t!. I liked Albers and felt that he could possibly move up to a bigger team. Lets hope he can make a comeback sometime.

I hope he stays away from F1 the rest of his life. No, I'm not a fan of Albers.. Always complaining he gets traffic in quali. It's always the car and not him. But still he makes huge errors. Just unacceptable I think.

There's one thing I still want to say about that forced cockpit view. The argument for that is that it would be unfair if you used a custom view because you get an advantage. Well if so, then I know some other things that give people an advantage:

- Not everybody has a high-end computer. With low FPS it's harder to drive then with high FPS.
- Again, not everybody has a high-end pc, so not everyone can run LFS on 1600*blabla with 24x AA and mipmapping. So it might be harder to see the cones, for the next turn.
- There's still that stuttering when someone joins, since patch X. It's very very annoying, and it makes me hit the cones on the autox track.
- Not everyone is used to the cockpitview. For me it's like I have to learn to drive all the way from the beginning, I think, that if you always used cockpitview, you have an unfair advantage on those who haven't.

And last I am missing the virtual bar that represents the steering wheel. I turned the steering wheel off (I hate it to see two). But now I'm can't see what LFS is doing, so please, enable that bar, also in cockpitview.

So if you're gonna talk about an unfair advantage, I know a few. So should people with a high end pc also drive with low fps/low graphics, I don't think so. So should people who are not used to the cockpitview drive cockpitview, I don't think so.

Besides, in the LX4 you can see more from the track because there's no door, so don't say you can see more if you're using the hoodview, because that is simply not true. And it's more realistic too, the hoodview..

I'm getting really sick of that cockpitview, when I'm forced to use settings I don't want to use. And yes, I'd like to compete with that competetion. I think it is just simply unfair the way it's done now. PERIOD.

Sorry if it's the wrong thread, from all the 37627834 threads about this subject.

Hello,

Recently I'm driving more BF1. Gives a real rush, I like that. But..

After Aston National, Redline Racing #3 started running Kyoto GP Long. That's great, but I found out that there are only 3 braking points.
So, I started to compare it to real tracks, average kph on the WR laps. I only took the usual driven tracks.

LFS, from 'slow' to fast:

Aston North 218,9 kph
Fern Bay Gold 218,2 kph
Blackwood 234,9 kph
Kyoto National 242,1 kph
Aston National 247,5 kph
Kyoto GP Long 262,8 kph
Westhill 268,9 kph
Aston Historic 269,6 kph

Real F1, a few tracks:

Nurburgring 204,0 kph
Gilles Villeneuve 207,0 kph
Indianapolis 210,6 kph
Silverstone 229,5 kph
Monza 256,6 kph

These times were the fastest laps done in 2006 by the BWM Saubers.
Shame Spa Francorchamps wasn't driven that year.

As you can see, most tracks are a lot slower then the most LFS tracks.

Monza is the fastest track there is currently in F1, yet 3 tracks (from the ones I messured) are way faster in LFS. Silverstone is also conciderate as a fast track, 7 tracks are faster. Only Aston North & Fern Bay Gold seem to have a decent average speed. But they're still pretty fast. Even Indy is slower, with its half oval.

My conclusion is that LFS has a lot of fun corners, but mostly they are just too fast. That's a shame with the downforce cars, you can't driver very close to someone in high speed corners.

So, I think there may be more slower corners. Not only hairpins, but also slower 90 degree turns. The fact that a lot of corners are banked in LFS makes them faster too. Also, most hairpins in LFS are just flat out (with the BF1), or almost flat out. Tracks like Monza, San Marino, Gilles Villeneuve, Nurburgring, Silverstone, Magny-Cours, etc. all have slow hairpins. Maybe It should make the fun bigger. Running over the curbs as fast as you can, flying in the air, but not as extreme as it is now.

Just an idea. This is not another "please more tracks like.. blabla.. in LFS!!" -thread. But just an idea to make it feel a bit more real maybe.

The current tracks are fun btw, so keep them..

Quote from Moonclaw :Less arcade, more simulation.

I don't agree. Maybe if you got a huge monitor it should be fine. But I don't have one. I like to see whats beyond my car, not what's in it. Just like real life. In real life you have a 180 degrees field of view. In LFS its just a small screen. That's why I prefer to see only the bonnet.

I'm used to it now, so I don't like the option. If all the big servers would have this option on, I simply wouldn't drive on them, leaving what? A few lagging servers where only 8 cars are allowed? It's a bit of a doom scenario, but what if...

And exactly what you say Renku!

If I want a forced cockpit view I'll race it in real life. This is a sim, it can't be perfect, it just simulates. The way I put my option simulates the way I experience driving in real life.

I agree with disabling the 3rd person cam, but not the other one.

When you drive a car in real life, you're only focussed on whats beyond the windshield. I don't want to see the interior of the car. I always put the cam at the position of the wheel, and it feels more realistic.

Let the throttle go as soon as you realise you're gonna get on the grass. Shift up a few gears, so you won't have too much wheelspin. Then push the throttle a bit (like 20%) to keep a bit of speed. Gently steer back to the tarmac. Don't steer too much, or you'll spin anyway.
