Quote from Krane :There are several reasons why the translated text would be wrong/wierd. For example english is fairly simple compared to finnish where you have complex conjugations for pretty much every word.
There are size limits for the string which limit what you can put in there.

The same problem for us. Also, there are no narrow cyrillic letters like "i", moreover, some are wider. In English some words are very short (like car, tire, rim, pit [a noun, a verb, we'd have a hundred forms for it!], wing, rear, front, left, right...). I had to deviate from the canonical words to make strings that would be short and look normally everywhere. The good side of this translation is that we *feel* what is there behind each string in LFS, and know what word to use.

K.David formally, yes, anybody could, but take into consideration what it means to any who participated in translation.

BTW, why don't you try to improve Hungarian translation? Just open LFS, open a text editor. Find a bug => find it in the text, correct, SHIFT+F5, go on. IIRC, it took about several hours for me (divided into 2 days-off) to translate the language file from scratch.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :I was just sitting here in idle, and thought, could some of the translations into other languages possibly have "alternate" meanings or bad words snuck in, and because ScaViEr don't speak those languages, they could be getting thru undetected.

Any other peoples thoughts on this?

That's possible, but I believe not a case here. I've been in LFS for a long time, we at liveforspeed.ru had prepared most of our translation more than year before the patch was released. [edit: in january, 2004] So, having spent all these efforts and so much time, I value the results and own reputation very much. Only a complete freak or a casual person would commit such a thing. I think, Victor selected people not randomly.

@Hyperactive: I thought the same, but couldn't make it, so waiting for any host admin to check this.

In the translation, I've noticed "can't reset because of ..." and "it would cause yellow flag". Hm, does it mean "there is somebody who'd see yellow flag"? (consequently, it's possible to reset if there are no cars coming?)

I support the idea.

As I see, right now the wheels do not get damaged of their own inertia. For example, when a car collides with a concrete barrier, the mirrors break and fly ahead. The same for suspension and other parts. But it isn't yet coded in LFS.

Then, IRL after just a single not very strong collision, there will be vibrations that will make it progress further to compete destruction of a part.

So, now it's possible to restrict autocross layouts without numerous long barriers. Maybe it's time to modify them a bit? The red-white barriers are copies of those plastic (I don't know, may be IRL they can be filled with water to add weight), but in LFS they are non-movable. It would be more realistic to re-add them, now with real weights along with concrete blocks.

Has anybody recorded today's F-BMW race at Norisring, especially the episode with Saavedra and Mendoza making sandwich of cars?

Saavedra tried to pass in the back straight before the last right turn, but Mendoza crossed his way breaking his own rear wing and Saarega's front wing. Then at the hairpin Saavedra went very narrowly at the very left of the straight hitting Mendoza, and they both went off the track. There the cars were standing towards each other, Saavedra intentionally slightly rammed Mendoza and sarcastically applauded. Mendoza rammed him in his turn, and unexpectedly Mendoza's car climed on Saavedra's.

Watch the race review if you have a chance.

Quote from Gentlefoot :3. Indicating at the wrong time - You are just about to pass a car on the motorway and just as you get alongside the indicator comes on. Really you should now be stamping on the brakes because this car is about to change lane and will hit the side of you. But in fact, you know they have just decided they want to change lane, they don't actually mean it. Numpties.

Sounds strange. We usually appreciate indicating beforehand, indicating the intention to change lane, thus being predictable, not making "a surprize" at the very moment.

If, in a separated road, someone is in the left lane and wants to take the next U-turn, it's normal to signal that beforehand, expecially if the U-turn is tight - then those behind will understand that stop signs mean not just some slowing, but much slowing down. Otherwise it may even lead to a collision.

Quote from micha1980de :hm, i think as first animation for a 13 year old, i could have "hoped" it wasn't somthing concerning killing....

regards

Why?! When I was 13, I drew animations on notebooks' sides, and all of it was about killing (stick-men and transformers)

Ok. I've found it in cyrillic codepage. It's an archaic letter. Now UTF-8 allows wide use of it

Plaztikman,
reply for your added text:
no, it's not your job, but you've told earlier about your welcomeness and that you DO GIVE SETUPS to people with problems. Again, I haven't asked for a setup, neither complained this time. It's about other people.

It's quite a strange reaction: in figurative sense, you say you're so kind, I say you're rude. Then insead of insisting that you're really good guys, you tell "but why should we be kind?!" This really reveals your attitude. It looks like you take critics for offence.

510N3D, LOL, you'd better look at my registration time. I'm 3 years in LFS, and know very well what Setupfield is.

I've been quite a lot at your host and have told what I've seen.

Quote from 510N3D :We give out setups to them and in 90% it fixes the problem.

I haven't seen you ever giving a setup to others. "It's team setup" - you say.

I don't want to offend FM, but when I go to OJ server I feel like going to a demo host, back in the time of S1.

As for the sound, Scawen, can you add Z co-ordinate to calculation of engine's doppler effect? Because now it sounds abnormal: you fly in Shift+U 30 metres above the ground, but the sound is like you are at the same level with cars passign by.
