GPFlo,
1) gravity force can be calculated from absolute acceleration (a = F/m). We can obtain the acceleration quite enough precisely as the 2nd derivative of position. From the difference of positions of a car in 2 moments we get it's speed, from the differences of speeds - the acceleration. No need for extra data bytes.

You just need to jump from a ramp and get the vertical acceleration.

2) Gravity constant is there in the memory, search for "-9.81".

Quote from tristancliffe :Gravity isn't a constant at all. It just so happens that the average value at sea level over the earth is 9.80665 m/s/s. A higher altitudes (out the range of a racing sim) it decreases.

Not that it matters, but I wonder if LFS's gravity is constant or if Scawen programmed it to take into acount altitide variations :

Yes, at the top of mt. Everest the gravity is 99,7% of that at the sea level. At the height of Alpha orbital station the gravity is 85-90% of normal.

It was funny to modify the constant to make gravity at the level of Mars... Everything is so slow and the jumps are can be high.

In the first video it's the rear window glass. It dropped out of the window and was already distorted, so the accumulated tension made such an effect.

Holy sh*t!!!

I guess the Zil (the bigger one) pressed the GAZelle to the wall before they appeared in the camera scope. And then the GAZelle just hit a column.

Another video: LADA 2109 (folk name "Chisel") moves to the left row to pass another 2109 in the middle row, the blue LADA 2105's driver nervously turns and crashes into the wall. Keep in mind that in Russian cities the drivers do not use to use safety belts (arguing that they go slowly in the city and thus safely).

Another one:
http://www.ochevidec.tv/vid/1134471812.avi

And the third:
http://www.ochevidec.tv/vid/1134472262.avi
The Opel (BMW?) moves to the left row, then notices a very fast Mercedes, tries to avoid it, but Mercedes driver also tries to move to the right and they both collide and run into the wall. The Mercedes driver is responsible, because he was going too quickly, exceeding the limits. The Opel dissapeares in the service box.

The tunnel is in Moscow, I guess in the central part. So there is quite a lot of idiots per square meter.

Quote from Clownpaint :It's not what Americans think. It's what the vast majority of people seem to think these days internationally. Especially with the new generations being into big explosions, hip hop and hollywood. They need to be kept entertained and motorsport doesn't do it for them. All my life I've stuck to my guns and tried to get as many people into motorsport as I can but they just aren't interested. I always get the same responses "Why do you enjoy watching cars go round in circles?!", "Why don't you just go and watch cars on the road?" and other ridiculous statements. I got those sort of responses more in high school though. As you get older you become more open minded and respect others views. But kids, unless they inherit the passion for motorsport generally just don't like it.

I think it depends on the age and "habits" taken very early. Those who mastered racing, music, whatever particular craft, learned the basics and learned to enjoy it in childhood from parents. There are many stories of jazz musicians whose fathers were fond of jazz, listened to it and took their boys to concerts in clubs. The same for motorsports, IMO.

Apparently this car has a "tuned" supension: increased ride height. This is considered "cool". Of course, they sacrifice handling.

I wish Live for Speed merged with X-Plane to include global scenery and aerodynamics model. When Austin includes driven wheels, we'll quickly get racing cars with downforce.

Quote from joeynuggetz :I'm getting irritated. Can someone tell me where to download the exect version of LFS that I need to get this to work? Once I do that, which of the 3 mekanic zips do i need from the first post? Maybe someone should write really clear instructions including the url to the correct version of LFS and update the first post. I tried every combo. Oh, and please tell me what "select car" means? Does it mean go into the garage and select a car and stay there? Do it mean select a car and go back to main menu? Does it mean to select a car and start the race? Does it mean select a car and drop your pants? :-) What is the magical action that will let us know whether the program failed or not? I know its not working becuase it still says car not found or select car, but what needs to be done succefully at that step besides having everything else above done right? In other words, does just going into the garage make it work becuase a car is already selected. I tried selecting another car afterwards but I dont know what to do or what to exepect after that point. No need to reply here, maybe put any additional granular instructions in the first post so other who downloaded it and gave up like I did could benefit. I cant wait to try this out.

Thanks, sorry for being a pain in the ass.

You wrote it for so long that you could already have made all necessary experiments to find out what and how works. Emotions...

Ok, peace!

In the very begining the protagonists behave as complete idiots and scumbags, and then they are romantized, and all the other people are depicted as disgusting. Moreover, the film's sponsor comes right from that environment, washing money with this film. It is absolutely disgusting. They promoted this bandits romatic without any shame, without covering it up. I know, you aren't familiar with the context, you judge only the art (is there any?!)

Quote from AJS :So russians don´t drink vodka

Relax, man! I don't drink it and that joke was a commonplace.
Quote from AJS :and the guys in the third video were completely sober ? Yeah, right.

Probably they were. They could do this being sober too.
Quote :I´ve been to russia and well ... i also drove with a guy in a black BMW lol
They are so nuts about BMW they even did produce 2 movies : Bymep aka Beemer. oh and part II

That's true. The movie is complete shit, BTW.

Quote from deggis :The point was that those russians were stupid.

That's true. As usually a witty person jokes on vodka. BMW is quite valued and prestigeous in the european part of the country, so some our fellows having seen this were yelling like mad.

Before I played MSFS I also thought "samples are bad". But in Microsoft Flight Simulator there is a complicated and flexible system of makig engines sounds. Engine sounds may be constructed of several samples that sound differently, with different loudness at different RPMs. Those who play it, know what I mean, those who don't won't understand.

I need to note also that these samples are subjected to doppler effect (while in LFS the samples, like horns, crashes, are not, and that's noticeable).

Synthesized sounds will be the future, but still samples sound better. The advantage of synthesized is that when I make a different engine in LFSTweak, I get the new sound automatically.

Quote :By decision of the sporting officials, the five trucks of Dutch manufactor DAF have not been cleared to start the 28th edition of the Dakar. The crews concerned are: those of: Hans Bekx (502), Gerard De Rooy (n° 504), Jan De Rooy (n° 506), Marcel Van Vliet (n° 523) and Hugo Duisters (n° 529).

According to the officials technical report the competitors of these vehicles don't have the proper documents.

For these reasons, a jury of officials has decided after speaking to the competitors that based on a part of article 25.4 of the rule book as well as the whole of article 25P1 « every vehicle that is not in conformity can't be cleared to start the rally. (decision of the jury of sporting officials) ». Article 25P2 B must also be taken into consideration. This decision was announced to the competitors at 15h20 and they now have an hour to appeal.

source 2

I expected a competition, but now Kamaz seems to need just to drive carefully. I have different feelings: of course, there won't be such tension among trucks. But anyway Kamaz will be ignored, be there DAF or no. Media like dakar.com, racing-live.com, make it look like it is DAF that wins each year.

[my excusements, the coverage is good, no more complains about ignorance. ]

Today morning I was back from the trip to Krasnoyarsk. That was excelent. We had the Festa, quite family holiday, but with a large group of people, and then I staid at a bar with 3 girls from this group. Made new friends, did sightseeing in the city and it's outskirts.

It is also a big industrial city with >1 million population, but the wonderful feature is it's historical centre. It wasn't influenced much by Stalin's period architecture, neither by Khruschev's ugly boxes. It's pure 18-19th centuries' nice buildings. In my city there is only a few of such houses, but in Krasnoyarsk they are almost everywhere in the centre.

I thought about buying a PC device, but these things will stay with me forever.

Here are some pics. Distorted by lens, yep. Filenames contain the descriptions.

The weather was about -19°C without wind but very humid, it's not a problem to move indoor-to-indoor or in a bus, but definitely not for walking outside. The natives said I'm a nutter.

Metal. Unleashed, Vomitory, Napalm Death, 3rd and The Mortal, Iron Maiden, AC/DC. I remember when I used to play Q3 before the age of LFS, I started Napalm Death's two albums (Scum, From Enslavement to Obliteration) and stopped playing when the music stopped.

That's true. This year I was again "deep in LFS", but for much shorter period, uncomparable with 2003 or 2004. It is impossible to keep doing the same thing if it doesn't give you the same joy. Now I use to fly in X-Plane, steadily build the airports of my city.
