Dude what kind of stress test is that? Sit at the back of a grid with 20AI with full AA and AF, and your resolution is kinda low, so I don't really think your results are impressive at all. I had a Athlon 6400+ OC'd to 3.5 and PNY GeForce 8600GT Rivatuned around 10%, how in the world can you get double the performance of my machine, maybe because of your low resolution, but I bet your using 2xAA.

Quote from Gabkicks :w/ my 4850 and e8400 and 4 gigs of ram, i get 66fps (93fps when paused) 1280x1024 4xAA 16xAF.
This is from the back of the grid w/ 20 AI on SO Chicane. I had some programs running in the background, but I just wanted to see.

Strange, are you using the newest video drivers? At the back of the Grid, with 20AI, at 1680x1050, 8xAA, 16xAF, I get 48.9FPS. My rig at the time was Athlon64 X2 6400+ 3.2Ghz X2 2MB L2, 3GB 667Mhz Dual Channel, 8600GTOC rivatuned to 600/800/1293. Don't seem right. I haven't tested my new setup(New GPU PNY 9600GTOC 512MB - before they stopped making them in OC- and OC'd my CPU to 3.5, it's the black edition.

Whatever you had in the background must have really been killing your FPS.

Yeah the 8400 is far superior for LFS. You'll be able to run it at higher resolutions and perhaps even AA and AF. Anything graphics from Intel is bottom of the line, AMD as well. Although in my experience the AMD integrated seems a little better, I was able to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl on a Radeon Express 200m on a dual core amd system, in direct x 8 mode tho, but still, it ran. Impressed me.

Is there presently a LFS benchmark around that I can use? The links for the one in this thread are down, naturally because it's so old. I'd like to benchmark my system since overclocking and getting a great GPU.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Erm... No, it would be this notebook

I just wanna know how much FPS can I expect.

Dude, that is extreme overkill for LFS, you can run it with all addon's and maximum graphics....I dunno why you'd even ask, unless maybe you're new to computers?
Is this normal?

I've read the instructions for creating LFS movies, however, before hand I'd tried doing it myself, and was able to, now here's my issue;

The instructions reccomend recording at half speed, I guess because PC's can't run the game and record at the same time, however, I was able to do so. I haven't had to slow down LFS at all in my video's, can someone explain this. By no means is it a problem, it's actually nice it saves time. Also it's not like I have an uber system. Am I not the only one who can do this?
My specs: Athlon64 X2 6400+ OC'd to 3.5Ghz X2, 3GB 800Mhz Dual Channel, Pny 9600GTOC, and an average 7,200rpm HDD.

My bad to create an entire thread on the topic, I just can't imagine my computer is sooo uber than I can do this....

Is there anyways someone who really really knows there way around LFS and the many ohter related programs can go though and find the torque curves for each car in LFS, I think many racers would like it and very much appreciate it. Myself, I would be eternally grateful for something like that, I just don't have the time or experience with all this to do it myself. I think it would be a huge favor to the community. People can than adjust their gearing for each car and track perfectly, man, it would be incredibly awesome, I mean this is something real racers do, it's actually very important.

When I tuned and dyno'd my '04 Cobra I was able to see my engines curves, however the powerband was very linear, since it's such a large, blown engine, with a very broad powerband. But with the cars in this simulator, especially with the turbo cars, it would be very helpful, because the powerbands are anything but linear.

Edit: I guess it's possible to kinda of, guestimate, judging by the G's, and just watching the boost climb and speed climb, where about your power band starts and ends, but this is kinda ghetto.

Wooo, when I saw the title I thought we had a LFS hater, heh. This is by a lery large margin the most realistic racer in the world, period. I would take the advice you've gotten here. there's just no way it's LFS. I've taken a 9 and a half month break at once point, from april '06 to January '07, it took me only 10-15 hours to get my skillz back.

I'd wait for the wheel, a 360 controller is no good IMO anyways.

Old Timer, these guys have given you great advice, and well, I can't help u with ur present problem with the button for a race line, but I do have some advise.

When I first got the simulator, I spend a good amount of time using the training, from the main menu. It really really helps, for some more than others, but if you're new to racing, and don't know much about it, the training can teach you quite a bit, for some ppl it's a real must. I didn't really need it because I do race in real life (for fun not pro lol) and it actually did help me, because it is still a simulator, and every bit of practice pays off. I highly recommend spending time in the games training, it may help you. It's not the best training they could possibly have mad, but it's well done, and actually pretty fun when the simulator is still new to you, enjoy, and welcome to LFS, the best, most realistic racing simulator ever made!

Thanks guys, this is why I like this forum so much, my questions were answered in just a few minutes, rock on.
Can someone explain the slicks to me (R4/R3/R2 etc..)
DHRammstein

Did a search, hate to create a thead, forgive me, but I'm just having a hard time. I'm not new to the game, just to playing online, and new to creating setups. I played for about 3 years just using Race_S stuff, mostly for fun offline, because it's so real, and I love legitimate simulation, anyways to the point.

What's the difference between say, a R2 slick and a R4, using the BMW Sauber for example. I see that they have optimal temperatures, and I understand that the R4 would take longer to get effective than a R2, since the optimal temp is higher, however, well, I guess I'd like to know which is best. I understand the lenth of the race is something to consider, but I'm looking for which tire has the best grip, regardless how long it lasts, I run mostly short races.

Also if anyone cares to explain any further, hey, that would be great, but really I need to know what's best, because for now I'm assuming the R4 has the best grip, but only because it's a higher number than R3 or R2. Thanks a lot guys, for any input.

I'm more technical savvy, so I help ppl when I can with technical problems on the board, I try to do my share, but when it comes to something like this, game related, well, in-game related, I reach out to you vets of the game for support, because I've seen first hand on here the ridiculous amount of people that, just seem to know 'everything' there is to know about this simulator.

Again, thanks for any input, simple as it may seem, I think this is a real problem for me because I just don't know what to choose, and I fear tire choice may be one of the more important aspects of racing.

No no no, not even a badly fragmented drive can cause this, once the textures and everything are loaded into memory, the hard drive won't affect fps, it may cause slow load times, but once the game is running, everything will be in memory, and he has plenty for LFS. In fact, with his system, he should have no trouble running the fps he mentioned he was getting originally.

Something else is wrong, I recommend uninstalling you video card's drivers, then use a driver cleaner, reboot and install the newest drivers from nvidia.com . From there, if that doesn't help, well, I'd start with this, is LFS the only game that does this? If so, backup skins, setups, etc etc, and reinstall the game entirely. If all games are doing this, you've either got a corrup driver somewhere, or you're overheating somewhere and the machine is throttling back.

Post a DXDiag if all else fails, there's just no way a fragmented drive could cause this, unless you're getting extreme disc thrashing, running out of virtual memory, and the swap file is going nuts trying to keep up, and a fragmented drive from there can make it worse, but, still LFS uses very little memory, and since you don't have anything else running in the background, I find that unlikely. Like I said, even the worst fragmented drive in the world shouldn't effect fps, because once the game is loaded, and you're in the race, everything should be in system and video memory.

Maybe someone else can help if my few tips don't, but I can almost certainly say it woudln't be your drive, because, I mean, once it's loaded(and a fragmented drive will cause terrible load times, and eventually errors on the drive) the hard drive serves little function, on an otherwise healthy system.

If you haven't cleaned out your case in a while, start there, and make sure your fans are functioning. Good luck.

I actually had a similar system a while back, and the 7600 is just, a powerhouse in terms of LFS, heh, it doesn't need much power, you should be able to run a nice high resolution with AA and AF with little trouble.

This is awesome, anything like this is great for LFS.

It's not just the new car that has me excited(and I love VW), but I think this could mean [modernization] for the game..

And how nice would it be to have something real once in a while? I can't be the only one that would freak out if I saw a new, "real" track, le mans, Nurburgring, something like that, it would change LFS, and it would be a ton of fun.

EDIT: <WARNING> LONG POST, SKIP IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT GRAPHICS ENGINE AND PHYSICS ENGINE DISCUSSION ABOUT S3 Although if you would read, I'd really like some input/opinions on how I feel about this topic. I'd really like to hear what some of you techy fella's think about my ideas, and probably more than anything, if any of you feel they're even possible for S3.

Firstly, off topic:@ Dajmin "I agree. That was more me being wishful, I don't see how they could afford to license a graphics engine like that. They went all out(Codemasters)."

<<<GRID>>> It's so impressive, even running at 20fps it looks as though it's running 60fps, incredible. I'm not sure what kind of renderer can do this, it almost seems like, um, I'm not sure if the term is correct, but interlaced maybe, like a movie, they run at around 26-29.9 fps, but don't look choppy because of the blur type effect, is interlaced the right word? I dunno, but whatever it is they use to get this effect in movies I think they're using it, or some other form of it in the game. Which is awesome, because you can max out the graphics, which are the best graphics of any racing game/sim on PC right now, and if your system can only push 20 frames, it looks smooth, jeez it almost looks like TV. It's late now, but I'm gonna look into this tomorrow to see how they managed to do this. Interesting tho, I think this type of effect would only be useful in a racing game anyways. Also they seem to be using the same concept as NFS:Most wanted, where they use haziness and other blurring effects to reduce the amount of detail of objects and terrain in the distance, this reduces the workload of the GPU big time, only having to render nearby objects in detail, and rather than farther off objects looking poorly, they use these effects to lower the detail in a kind of realistic way, the items simply look like they normally would at a distance, hard to distinguish, I can't imagine how much CPU and GPU power this saves, allowing for great appearance and effects up close, and probably the power for physics.

Sorry for the long post, I just love how they did this, and I think ALL racing games should adopt this same concept. Even using a blur due to heat on the road surface is an excuse to save GPU power for nearer objects to look their best. Especially the racetrack, special effects when damaging the car, car reflection update rates, and the car itself, at all times has such extremely high detail, and they can get away with it by using these techniques that most people would never notice, because the distan objects look low detail, but a realistic low detail, because you wouldn't be able to focus on these distant objects anyways.

Nothing tops LFS for a realistic experience, but for only the second time, I've found an arcade racer I can actually enjoy because they put so much effort into it, reffering to GRID. The only other arcade racer I thought had pretty good physics was NFSU2, and I'm not really a fan of the series, gran turismo and PC titles always kept me away, but underground 2 had solid physics for an arcader, although still overly forgiving to RWD cars and oversteer, but at least not understeer, which made up for it, you could kind of just assume you were a good driver and never put yourself in a situation where oversteer could take you out.....WoW, what a ramble, it's cause it's so late, 5:47am, I type too much like this when I'm tired, just a bit more, if you're tired of reading, skip onto another post, I understand lol...

Anyways, Forza (Xbox360 graphics) would look nice, would never happen either, but a good idea too. I think scawen and the fella's can come up with their own engine, but I think it would require some help. In my experience creating a graphics engine is a huge amount of work, especially from scratch, which I'm sure S3 would be. S2 is what, DX 8.1(maybe first gen DX9...wait, if it's DX9, wouldn't it be easy to overhaul it to bring in the 9.0c effects), we're going to need fully 9.0c for dynamic weather and all the effects that come with it, especially if we want it optimized well and looking good, like eventually having dry areas throughout the wet surface of the track from all the cars following a line, and advanced physics that can respond to each and every track condition, sounds like hard work. I've seen no name game developers come up with decent graphics engines on their own, so I know scawen and the boys can do it.

My wish list, and most of this is incredibly unlikely. The graphics engine I've desbribed(written by the LFS ppl or a cheap licensed engine to build upon), fully DX9.0c capable, full dynamic lighting, soft shadows, full 128bit HDR support for the sun & track lights in night racing. Advanced bump mapping for rough parts of the tracks. Dynamic weather and time of day cycle, with physics to support changing track temporatures depending on amount on sunlight on any particular area of the track, wet surfaces that vary by amount of rain, and sun that may apear after a quick shower, physics that can simulate grip on these track surfaces, basic..but, dynamic tire wear, from wet to dry conditions and the cooling and warming effects as a result, from rain to shine. Tires that respond to wet and dry surfaces differently depending on wear(Not sure wear would matter) and tempurature, or would this really matter? For example, a long straight has a nice dry groove to follow, tire temps are up a bit, if not optimial at least warm from the dry groove, then running into a corner still wet from clowd cover/lack of sunlight in this area, or if ya run out of the groove into a still damp/wet area, should it cool the tire some, resluting in a small reduction in grip, because of loss of temperature? Or am I way off, and wet racing tires deal with these issues? Man I'm tired, I coud keep going a while, just wanted to run through some idea's I had, I'm wondering if these types of physics are possible, with realtime/realistic weather changing and the track temperature changing with it (ten minutes of clouds, then ten minutes of sunshine, are there physics advanced enough that the track may heat and cool is my question, and the effects, and could physics be applied to any of this. .... Would it come down to how far they're willing to take it, or is there a brick wall at which they cannot produce some of these physics? With many of us running multicore systems that can handle the workload, if the physics are possible, perhaps it woudl depend on whether they have the ability to keep it so those on less powerful systems can race. Because if the game is gonna have any of these hardcore physics, everyone would need to be able to run it. I mean, I believe by the time S3 is out, most people should have a multicore system, capable of multithreading, and I feel the best varuation of a simulator like this would be best if optimized for multiple cores. Call me out on this if I'm wrong, but how about the graphics engine running threads on one core, and the physics engine running it's threads to the second. And a good single core CPU should be able to handle both on one core, the sim will detect hw and run both engines on the one core.

Enough, I'll keep going for hours, I have to stay up I can't go to sleep, gotta leave soon for work, and when I'm tired I just keep going, forgive how long the post is. If at any point I made no sense sorry, but if I nailed any good points, would some of you with the knowledge behind this stuff tell me what's possible in a DX9.0c environment(graphics wise I'm sure it can all be done, I've seen it done), however, if both graphics and physics can be accomplished on a single core, regardless how much work it would take, multithreading support would be just, awesome.

Thoughts. Be easy on me, I'm so tired lol, and I'm so very curious about what other people may thinkg about this. I would absolutey love to see S3 take advantage of multicore systems, while still maintaining the ability to have it all function on a single core, of course phyics quality cannot be compromized in a racing game, but graphical elements can, to allow for a nice powerful engine to run incredible physics, with your choice of great graphics if you've got the power.

Quote from PAracer :I'm down here in Hershey.

The Fords in the group are Taurus SHOs in various states of track prep. My father and I have stripped and caged cars, and there are a couple other more street applicable versions. The Chevy that will be with us in a couple weeks is a Z-06 owned by a former SHO owner.

The VW would be fine on the track for your first outing. My SHO has less than 250hp, yet has no trouble at all in the advanced group (it's all weight and tires with this stuff). There's still time to sign up for Pocono in October.

www.motorsportsreg.com - Best place to look for track events

Well my VW is a '97 VR6 GTI, minor engine work, around 260bhp like I said, um, FK silverine suspension, brembro's all the way around, Pirelli P Zero Nero's all around, LSD, shifter, a really cool 10.5" momo wheel(retarded expensive), man, this car feels like your holding a rie rod in each hand, amazing handling. The motor I didn't want much more out of, with the MK4 head gasket, 268 cams, APR software etc etc it runs well, actually a little faster than my '99 mustang gt when it was stock.

@evilpimp: Thanks man, I certainly will, and anyone local is welcome to come, I may even trust you to run my VW on the track. Anyone that would like to join up at an event, this will be some time from now, next spring earliest.

@Shotglass: Yeah there's actually a lot to that. When he bought it, they had a lot of custom work done (Installing brit parts) there overseas when he first got the car.(I'm assuming to make it street legal, I'm not sure). They were having severe reliability problems with it since all the work was done, they explain this in an episode and in print, I don't recall where I read it. They're good cars, and well, I'm a ford guy , and they're much cheaper than a number of cars they outperform. I'm just absolutely in love with the car, and I'm certain the motor is solid, it's a proven engine once used in the Lightnings.

@ PAracer: As far as insurance, the car most likely won't be driven on the road, I'm really not sure yet. But I'm going to do plenty of research and see what options I have, if I can manage insurance for the street, I may, but only a short time out of the year. The rest of the time I'll need coverage for the racing. Again, I'll explore every possibly option, and do my best to find something just right for me. I'm young, 27, I'll be 28 when I get the car, my bday is very soon, perfect driving record, absolutely perfect. May help a bit, but I'm sure insurance of any kind is going to be expensive, and the prices may reflect how much racing I actually participate in, we'll see once I have the car in my garage, and get things rolling. Oh btw, I just found a '05 Ford Heavy Duty, turbo diesel, high mileage(what I wanted, truck is "only" for trailering the GT) for very cheap. Trailer is still a work in progress, but I'll have one before delivery of the GT. Oh, also, I love SHO's, I used to own a '94, with a powerdyne supercharger, good software and tune, weight reduction, suspension, brakes, etc etc. Miss that car, pulled like a rocket.

@Mazz42000: Nah, no lottery, and I don't prefer discussing these things on a public board, but we have a mature crowd here, so, I don't see the harm. I just don't want to come off as some dude goin on and on about money, I'm not like that, i'ts ignorant. So...I won a settlement for malpractice back in '05. Invested 90% right off the bat in a CD, just didn't trust myself to make decisions, and the CD is just about matured. Also I was in a very terrible car accident with a tractor trailer, and I've suffered injuries, I'll be receiving a settlement for this as well, it was an open shut case. The timing is working out in such a way that my CD will mature in just another two months, and I've already signed the papers for my settlement, 90 days or less I should have my compensation for my injuries.(A police officer witnessed this terrible accident, and would have testified on my behalf, it never made it past the deposition. I guess a bad run of luck turned into, well, good in a sense financially, but I do have some injuries that keep me from doing many of the things I loved, and it's been hard on me. Who knows, maybe this is another reason I'm adopting a sport where my physical condition doesn't need to be so absolutely perfect.
As far as keeping the GT for road use, I'm a very modest type I guess, this car is for myself, to enjoy racing, and the car. I feel no need to drive up and down main street drawing attention, I get enough of that in the mustang, and I don't like it. I just want to race. But I may drive it on the street at some point, it would be nice to go to car shows for Fords and other GT's, and more importantly just leasure drives on a sunday after a long work week(yes I will continue to work regardless of the money).
A miata on a racetrack, well sure, it's still a racing experience, but I already have a VR6 built entirely for the track with which I could, but I want this car. Oh, most importantly, they're not as expensive as you may think, and it's not about the money, I really don't like talking about the money, just want advice on what steps to take to be ready for what I want to do About your last sentence, eh, I can understand how people may think this a bit, bizzare, but in reality I've just been blessed with money, maybe blessed isn't the best word choice, I could easliy have been killed in the car accident. But my major source of $ is from a malpractice suite that settled back in '05, that's how I bought my house, my mustang, GTI and Saab, and setup my sons college fund. It wasn't easy getting my fiance to agree on any of this, but she realized my martial arts career is over, I can't do much of anything right now, it sucks, another reason I play video games. Anyways she's understanding, and she knows this will make me happy, and it's not like we're quiting our jobs, and we already bought our house in '05, before I invested the rest into the CD. I wouldn't dare say "anyone" can "afford" a new Ford GT, but, I've just decided I want it, and I want to race. It's something that can be done, and I'm going to do it, the purpose in life is to be happy, and I absolutely love racing, I can't imagine how special it will be for me once I'm actually out there doing my thing. Forget vacation every year, and any and all other outings, I want to race

@Sueycide_FD: Thanks for the tip.

@Riders Motion: I'm getting a late model high mileage, cheap Ford heavy duty turbo diesel for the towing(with service records!!!). I don't want to spend unecessary $ because the truck will likely be exclusively for trailering the GT. If I'm able to get a trailer capable, I may be towing both the GT and my VR6 track car.

Quote from PAracer :I and a few friends and family members do HPDE events with the local BMW club (we own Fords and Chebbys). April at Summit Point. July at Watkins Glen, August at NJMP, and October at Pocono. www.delvalbmwcca.org

With this club, you will start in a novice group with a competent instructor. Once you progress in skill, your instructor may give you the option of driving alone.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

I'm curious, noticing your name and you race at pocono, maybe you're here in PA? I'm in East Stroudsburg, 20-25 minutes down the highway from Pocono Raceway, 1 hour from NYC, 1 hour from Philly. I'm presently working on my garage in preperation for a lift, and a little extension, so I can keep my mustang in there too. The GT won't even be registered to be driven on the street, it will be trailered everywhere. Maybe I'll eventually drive it on the road on sundays or something, but I'm not really the type to show off or anything like that, I would just enjoy a leasure drive in the car.

What exactly do you race, what models Ford/Chevy? I think maybe I'd be interested in this club, I have the mustang for now, and my VR6 GTI(Very good corner car, but only about 260bhp)

I'll have a newer Ford Heavy Duty, Turbo Diesel, plenty for the two. I'm buying with some mileage and used, I don't want to spend much because it's really "only" for this purpose. As far as a trailer, a friend said he can help me, he trailers a saleen mustang himself, and I guess knows a bit about trailers. I'll do a little research online too, because the GT sits low, I dunno what I'm gonna need exactly, but your standard trailer won't work that I'm sure of.

Thanks for all the advice so far, I'm copying/pasting everything for future reference. I'm so excited, but honestly, more so about being able to race, rather than getting the car. As far as the car, well, that took me a long time to decide. The Z06 is cheaper, and actually performs very well, but after sitting in one, and realizing how terrible the car is(not the performance, just everything else), I was turned off right away, plus I'm a ford guy, but I admit I considered it, because it's a track car, and goddamn cheap considering the performance. The Top Gear review was very bad as well, and hey, if Jeremy Clarkson approves the GT, I feel good about it. It's expensive, and if it weren't for very special circumstances I'd never have chosen it, I probably would have bought a '03-'04 Roush Stage 3 Cobra.

Anyways, the GT is just nice, it's very comfortable, has all the goodies inside, the clutch is so light I couldn't believe it, fealt like a honda! The feal of the gearbox alone is just, so incredible, such direct, short throws, and the shifter placement is perfect for once. (Mustangs were always a reach)

Anyways, this is the only car I could afford that could run with the more expensive european cars, cars which I could never ever afford, regardless of my settlement.

Okay sorry to be rambling on, and I was thinking, how nice would it be to be able to meet up with a few of you locals and race some....man, I'm really looking forward to this.

It's very very likely I'll be buying new, but certainly the possibility remains I may pick one up used, super low mileage, never on a track type car. I will not wind up at auctions tho, that is out of the question. Anyways from the little research I've done, I shouldn't have much trouble getting my hands on one.

One last thing, oh man how I would love the GTX version! 150HP+, 2" lower, no roof, beautiful, and according to Jeremy Clarkson, it's quite a bit more fun to drive than his regular GT....I bet he winds u buying the GTX....what a lucky dude...

Sry again I just keep rambling on, but advice advice! And thanks for the PM's so far, as well.

I read thru some of the posts, but not all, but, has anyone asked what it is exactly you'll be using the computer for? Because, if you're just going to be playing live for speed, you can grab a gig of ram and a gpu for around 150$ that will run LFS over 100FPS at all times, with graphics maxed out.

However, if you want to play newer games(Crysis, Quake Wars, COD4), I'd take everyone's advice, as it seems you are, and wait, build a new PC. Upgrading what you have will end up with you spending double the money for half the performance boost.

Anyways, I like what you choose to build.

Great choice of CPU, those things are so incredibly nasty fast, it's insane. At stock speeds it will probably run 2x the speed of my 6400+BE, even at 3.5!

My next build, if it's soon, will have an 8 series(the CPU, not GPU), those things are just so sick for gaming, from what I've seen they eat up Crysis like it's nothing. Oh, good choice of GPU also, more than enough with the setup you have. Is that board SLI capable? If so, booyah, add another GT later on for dirt cheap and it'll RUN.

Anyways, heh, the difference between what you had and what you just built, is so incredibly over the top(not in spending, in comparison to what you had lol) the difference in speed can't even be compared. Enjoy, my next rig is gonna be very similar, post how it runs, I'd especially like to hear how it runs Crysis, if ya don't mind installin the demo and tryin it. Hell, would be a great way to break that thing in!

Edit: I hear those E8XXX CPU's are very good for overclocking, I hope your board will let you. Regardless, even stock, looking at the charts on tomshardware, they're out performing everything in their price range, and many others more expensive.

I'm fairly certain I posted this in Gen Disc., dunno why it says moved. I guess possibly I made a mistake.

Anyways looking forward to any advice, it would be especially nice if there were someone here doing exactly what I'm trying to do, or having done so in the past.
Getting GT, want real driving lessons.

Well, I've finally made the decision to buy a new Ford GT. Although, it won't be until late fall. And, I need some advice. I want to take some kind of real racing lessons. So I'll be able to take the car to local tracks, and be able to be, at least competent. I've already chosen the truck, and a trailer for all this, so that's covered.

How do I go about doing this? What kind of lessons should I take? If it helps any, I want to be able to race the car on any kind of track, most tracks around here are typical of....well maybe BL or Aston. I live near NYC.

I know there's a nascar driving type thing, but I dunno if that's what I'm looking for, I don't think it would be enough. Is there like, a well recognized school of any kind here in the states where I can truly learn to drive a car on a track?

Virtually all of my experience has been drag racing, simpler and cheaper to compete, and anyone can do it. So all my knowledge as far as real racing as been with suspension setups for drag racing, gearing, all that, is sooo different. I totally understand the difference, and I've been to a few tracks (audi driving experience), so I've had at least "some" time in a car on a track, but nothing like a GT, just a nice Audi 2.0T, also I live only 20 miles from Pocono Raceway, and although I'd love to race on that track with the GT, the kind of tracks I want to race I want more complex, chicane stuff, all that in the mix of turns and ya know, a "real" driving challenge. So I guess I could use some advice on good racetracks/events to look into as well, although mostly I'm really looking to learn. I don't want to spend a fortune, and I couldn't spend more than a month away from home.

This is something I absolutely want to do, and I'm in a situation where I'm blessed enough to have the opportunity, and I want to take advantage of it, this is something that would be very fullfilling for me, and I love motorsports, I want to be a part of it.

I know there are people out there that do this, they have a car(any kind, ya know, whatever ya wanna race) and they travel to tracks and run laps with other people, and it looks like a real blast.

Sorry for such a long post, but any and all advice will be greatly appreciated, and I guess I need to be as specific as I can in order to get accurate advice. I know there are real racers amongst us, and I'm sure there is plenty of knowledge that could be shared, thanks in advance everyone.

P.S. I was also curious, is there a particular part of year that this is hot, or do people do this kind of stuff year round, winter included; headed out to racetracks and running laps and having fun, ya know.

A graphics engine like that of GRID, with dynamic weather, and very good special effects, man that would be sweet. They should license the GRID engine, or whoever owns the engine, I absolutely love it, and it could be optimized even further to include anything.
