I've been considering exactly what you just said. Even my exhaust will have to be redone. Problem is, I've spent too much already, on the damn Kenne Bell charger, so my budget is pretty screwed. Maybe I'll just hold off, throw the BF's back on, sell the Pirelli's, put the money toward making the modds needed to get the 3XX's tires. I dunno why I thought the tires I got would hook up, well, honestly when I had the KB installed, I only expected to use a street tune. But once they did the race tune, just to see what we could max the car out at, it was irresistable, and I had to have the ability lol... I should have considered then that my tires weren't gonna work. Thanks for the advice guys, I hope I an afford to have it done by mid spring, it's a ridiculous investment, but it makes me happy, my car and my son, oh and my PC lol. Can't live without it, and after what I went through last time at the track, there's no damn way I'm running the race tune on the tires I have, although if I can't afford to get the work done, I guess I can go on the street tune, still enough to compete with the majority of cars, plus only 10% of the ppl on the track actually push there cars. (There's always some idiot in a celica or civic or something holding everyone up )
Only about 5 of you have good taste! /me runs and hides lol.
Seriously tho, THIS, is what's up.
Road car: My VR6, video is from '05, head gasket was blown lol, 170k miles, all stock engine, not quick at all then, although now it's 320BHP, but at the time it had the racing clutch and rebuilt tranny, new motor was being built while this video was recorded. I recorded it for just for the sound, nothing beats the 12 Valve VR6...even my worn out one lol. Click more info and scroll down for links to the pics of the car. It still looks the same, except at that time I had it sitting a little high, I usually have it a bit lower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... &feature=channel_page & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... WHfk4&feature=channel & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... Ra7KA&feature=channel
Well thanks for the advice, I overheard someone in my club say something very similar, and well, it looks like I have no choice. As far as winter, the car will be garaged, and only driven on nice days just to keep her nice and fresh.(In my experience, with every ford I've owned, they don't like sitting more than a month)
And yeah I guess miss matching would be a bad idea, besides my car buddies would laugh, not that I care, but most ppl are all about looks, and buy expensive parts and have no idea what tuning and racing are about. In fact, I don't know one person besides myself that can heal & toe....Thankfully the T56 trannies in these terminators are as strong as they are(can handle 850lbs torque, and uber extreme syncros)
I wanna be able to throw the car into corners like I do my 99GT, but that car is so easy to drive, so predictable, only like 375HP with a live axle, as long as you're on even pavement you're good.
Oh the Avatar, that's ironic, that's not my car, just a popular avatar I found on google images. My car is fairly identical looking though. Come to think of it that avatar is gettin old, I'm gonna throw up something new, maybe I can shrink down a pic of my cobra or my GT. My Cobra has the stock wheels on it right now for winter, and no recent pics, so I'll prob put a pic of the GT, or my VR6.
Anyways, ajp71, do you recommend those brand tires for an american car? Regardless I'm gonna start looking into it, and I'm gonna call my buddy, the dude that owns the shop that built a lot of VW VR6, he raced for years, dunno why I didn't think of that. But I also figure this place would be a good start too, there "must" be a lot of real racers/tuners around here, with pretty badass street cars of their own.
Edit: Here, at 0:55 to about 1:05 is a perfect example of the traction problems I'm having, this car is very similar to mine, just different color, I dunno what modds, but it sounds exactly like my car, so must have Bassani exhaust. Imagine that kind of traction problem, but through third gear like mine, his troubles were only thru second gear. Yeah I know the guy's a moron and drives like an ass on a public road.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... RVtAY&feature=related
I just sent a message to this guy( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... unHQQ&feature=related ) asking what tires he's using, he has the same year car, same supercharger, etc etc, I'll see what he says and compare to what any of you suggest. Only thing is, while this car hooks up real good, he's just goin in a straight line, I need corner burning abilities.
In the meantime anyone else have any suggestions? I'm going crazy not being able to find a proper tire, I have a feeling what ajp71 suggested is my only option. I can use my stock wheels/tires for winter so no big deal.
I've been getting conflicting advice, and well, I know there are "real" racers here, so I'm hoping someone can tell me what I should shoot for, and I'll give a brief description of how my car handles with the last two type tires I've used.
Right now I'm running Pirelli P Zero Neros, and I also run a set of BF Goodrich g-Force Super SPort A/S, they're both great, but, in some ways I prefer the Pirelli P Zero Neros, although everyone tells me the BF's are better...
Okay, with the BF tires, I get amazing traction turning in, incredible understeer performance, but they can't seem to handle the power, whereas, the Pirelli's have serious understeer problems, but they held the rear end down like it was glued, even on my race tune, just incredible.... Dumb as it sounds, I've considered putting a set of the Pirelli's on the back, and the BF's on the front, but I'd hate to have missmatching tires. Money is no issue, I put less than 2500 miles per year on the car, so whatever I get will last, also I don't spin the tires, it's pointless, egotystical, and wasteful. Can ANYONE give me some advice. I already have a good racing suspension, adjustable ride height and dampers, and had it set up by some guys in new jersey, actually a Porsche shop. (My friend does very basic work there and recommended them to setup the suspension)
Now, does this sound like maybe my suspension is the issue, or it's really just the tires, honestly, in all my experience(mostly drag racing, but gave it up and have been circuit racing for about 6 months I guess, maybe 12 trips to the track, but only the last few times did I truly push the car) At first I was scared, it's not like LFS, you can't see very well, and it's hard to judge what speed for each corner, although I've got it memorized now. But these tire issues are really upsetting me. Nothing scares me more than my rear end coming out to play at over 80mph, or even more. If I lost my car I'd be ....god I can't imagine.
When I'm on the street tune, which as of now is only around 480-495RWHP, depending on weather, both sets of tires are just fine, except launching off the line, but on the high octane fuel and race tune (Est. 600RWHP / Very modest for my KB 2.2 actually, but I want my engine to last a long time) both sets of tires just suck. Is it possible it's not the tires, and it's just that 600RWHP is too much for "any" tire to handle? I mean the tires are huge, I dunno what else I could do. If I take off wot, on the street tune it'll spin through 4th gear, but only slightly in 4th, with the BF's even 4th gear spins like it's first...it sucks.
Can anyone recommend a strategy, or a better tire. I'm already using as wide a tire as possible in the back, the pirelli tire I'm using 275/35ZR20, which is what's on the car now. I feel more confident, and the car launches amazingly well(With tons of practice, when I first installed the Kenne Bell Blower I couldn't launch right, it would just spin like crazy), just let the clutch go at around 2200-2400 and I'm hitting the redline in an instant. With the BF's I get wheel spin no matter how I launch, in fact it's so bad, even if I'm cruising at 45mph in second gear at around 3500rpm, and I stomp on the throttle(on the street tune too) the tires break lose and I hit the rev limiter immidietely.
Can anyone help me out, are these two tires even the best, or have I gotten bad advise. I guess what's most important is keeping the rear end planted, for those of you not familiar with the '04 Terminator Cobra, i'ts unlike all other mustangs, it doesn't have an old school live axle, it has an independent rear suspension, which is great except for a little wheel hop every now and then. Just thought that might be important to mention, cause a live axle mustang is an entirely different beast, my 99GT, even with a good suspension is "nothing" like my Cobra, hell even the Cobra all stock handled nearly as good as the GT did with a $1800 suspension. Live axle only good for drag racing, otherwise worthless, no damn tires help that car.
Sorry for such a long post, I'm just getting really frustrated trying to find a tire with more balance. If ya need anymore specs on the car just lemme know. I really hope someone has experience with this. Oh btw, both tires are amazing well at very very high speeds, as in 160+, car feels extremely extremely tight and responsive. (I don't do this daily plz don't jump on me for mentioning it, plus it was done safely)
The GTI, the Saab,(cars were inexpensive, I spent god knows how many hours making them perfect condition again, the Mustang, and I sold my explorer, which I regret with the snow we get here. That's about it, but I'm looking into a Vr6 Corrado, very nice, cherry, it's a total sleeper, looks all stock, running 360fwhp, no forced induction. I can't wait to drive it. And I also have an older mustang stricly built for the drag strip, it's a '67 with a 5.0 out of a '93 mustang cobra, it's an awesome engine, takes an extreme amount of absuse, we're running a lot of NOS through it.
I'm not one of those guys who thinks he's a king because of what I own, I appreciate everything I own, and help my family since I've been blessed.
The 9-3, 2.0T Saab and the MKIII GTI
The very best local driving cars.
A Close 2nd, the Acura rsx type S
My newest car. Bought it all stock, since have installed a racing suspension, brembo brakes all the way around, Borla exhaust, and most importantly the Kenne Bell supercharger. With the new tune I got recently i'ts putting down nearly 625hp, and 643 torque. Next up is major weight reduction and many others. This won't be a drag car, rather a circuit car
Please, don't flame me, I'm not rich, I work very very hard, and have an extreme amount of patience. The VW and Saab I got at a great price, and rebuilt the cars myself. This Cobra is the first new car I've ever bought,(Unless you count the Saab Aero 2.3L Turbo automatic I got my fiancee) and I'm 28. Can't wait for summer, although the Cobra needs much more work, a new tune after the blower is installed, and although I believe I've chosen the best tires, we'll have to test them and see. Wish me luck. Long live racing! And all the best to you fella's wrenching as hard as I am.
My Saab 2.0T heavily modded and my baby, my VR6 GTI, also heavily modded. Both ran low 13's with no power adders.

Well I was born in Germany, a US citizen though, my father was military, back in '81. I was there till '91 or so. I plan to go back and visit, I have family there I haven't seen in over twenty years. I highly doubt I'll be taking my car, but that's cool, I want to rent a RS6 Audi, should be fun. I only plan to stay for 6 weeks, and likely not for another 3-5 years. I'd love to take the mustang, and if I find a way, I certainly will
It should be worth mentioning that the newer 9800GTX+ cards are on the 55nm process, versus 9800gtx/8800gtx 65nm. So they do actually use less power, but, most vendors overclock them. I recently bought a BFG 9800GTX+ 1GB OC for 159.99us. It only needed one PCI-E 6 pin power connector, vs most similar cards that require two. I overclocked the hell out of it, runs cool and quiet. I'm using a Black Widow 850Watt power supply, which is overkill. Just buy any 500 watt+ PSU from newegg or tigerdirect, ANY of them will run a 9800GTX+, hence the (+).
You seem to ask two different questions I think. First, the importance, well, it makes LFS more dynamic, gives the users the ability to challenge one another in racing abilities, both on and off the track. I think the sim would be nearly as competitive without the use of setups, but not quite the same. If you've ever raced for real, or followed any racing very closely, you'll learn a car's setup can be everything on race day.
Secondly, IMO they're very important, although I believe too much is available to be adjusted, many modds would be required IRL, however it's almost like a skill set of a player in a RPG.
Manipulate and tweak everything to not only make the car faster, but make the car behave more the way you like.
Interesting, it reminds me of trying to drive a rwd car in the snow, downhill..kinda. Regardless, I wouldn't use the "technique", because it would severely damage tires, flat spots, etc etc. In counter steering you'll damage tires also, but I wouldn't think as badly, and the material lost on the tire would be more even, where this idea should give deep, nasty flat spots. At least in my experience.
Man that's a dream of mine. I was born in Heidelberg, left when I was like ten, my father was in the Military and was based there. I'd really like to visit where I used to live, ramstein airforce base, and most certainly rip up the autobahn. I'll go soon, but I doubt the car will be going with me lol, I bet it costs a fortune, and takes a month each way.
Stock, 160 comes real fast, in 5th, then it's just a matter of how long you wanna run your engine at extremely high rpm, in 6th gear, I'd bet between 170-175, but I wouldn't recommend it on stock tires....
With my modds, I'm sure I can pull all the way to the redline in 6th gear, I'm not sure what that would be, anywhere from 175-190, I'm really not sure. I have a great suspension and tires, but still I wouldnt drive like that on a public road. I've considered asking about it at the airport where I take my flight lessons, they have drag racing there two days out of the summer. I wonder if they'd let me run it like that, I guess it's worth asking, but I think I'll wait until I get my instrument, I don't want them thinking I'm some immature speed junky, even tho there's a little bit of that in any pilot, IMO lol.
You could be right, but I can't imagine how many customers they'll lose if they foul up again. Regardless Win7 is gonna be a great OS, I can tell, I love it already.
For me it doesn't really matter, my system is overkill in every way. As long as I can play and maintain 60fps, which isn't an issue lol, I'm happy. I didn't upgrade to get high frames in LFS, I upgraded for Stalker Clear Sky, Crysis, and several games coming out over the next 6-12 months.
I just installed a second card and am running SLI, it's pretty dope, frame rates are insane, never below 300 it seems, and in other views hundreds more. Haven't tried at the rear of a field of AI cars yet, however I still dunno if the FPS ppl suffer from that is a lack of GPU power or CPU power, I think it's CPU power, anyone know. Regardless I'll check what my FPS is at the rear of a field, on south city long.
You obviously haven't ran Win7, you've no idea how sweet it is, and it's not finished. Think about it, if microsoft screws up one more time, it's over. They need an incredibly good OS, and soon, and I'm certain they'll deliver. I absolutely love it, it smokes XP and Vista, and just runs, perfect, everything is instant, I haven't run into any bugs yet, and benchmarks show great performance, I can't think of anything negative about it, and I can't wait to buy it, the day it's released, woot.
I priced the GTX280 at 300-330, depending if you want the OC model or not, and depending on vender. I paid only 159.99 each for my cards, so I paid $320, and my cards do out perform the GTX 280, so I guess I made the smart buy. Also, they're incredibly quiet, and because they're the GTX+ version, they're 55nm, not 65nm, so they run very cool and use less power, so I can OC the hell out of them. I've already gotten a pretty sick OC out of them on stock cooling. I'm happy with my purchase. Honestly tho, I'd love to have 2 GTX200 series, and I likely would have bought 2, but I just put my Cobra in the shop for, upgrading the SC pulley and a few other things, just couldn't afford it.
A few days later I bought a second 9800GTX+ 1GB OC, so I don't really care for the GTX200 series, not for at least a year or two, these two cards in SLI destroy every game I play, by a long shot. I'm curious to see some benchmarks, of my two cards in SLI vs the GTX 200 series.
Here's a video of exactly how my car sounded and performed before the blower swap. I kinda prefer the sound of the stock blower, but I LOVE the power of the Kenne Bell blower, so I had to swap out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi__60ZT1wI
And here's a Cobra with the exact same Kenne Bell blower I have now, they sound similar, but my blower is louder, my car performs about the same, it's hard to say which is faster. Mines 556RWHP, it doesn't say how much HP this one is, I'd say around the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDuLPXunHQQ
Thanks man, IMO the Terminator Cobra's and the 12V VR6 VW's are the best sounding engines ever made, well for the price. There are supercars that sound as good, they'd better!
Just go to their website and look for drivers for their graphics cards, and download and install the driver for your card. You'll want the newest driver, but whatever they offer should be, the newest. Just select the right driver for your OS, ie; windows xp, vista, etc etc. If you haven't already done so....
