People have asked for a spr, but it's unlikely he has an idea what this is..maybe, but just in case, and if he's overlooked this thread, it's a replay people are asking you for. By default LFS records a replay ALL the time, it just doesn't always save it. If, by default, at any point you press escape and click replay, it will show the replay and automatically save it as well, and you can view it later from the main menu, and post it as an attachment on the board here for everyone to see. With a replay people can very very easily diagnose obvious problems and mistakes.

I played around with the demo for about a year, so, about 3 1/2 to 4 years. 98% offline tho, and only the last two years did I have a nice rig to run it on, it's entirely different when ya got a good rig with a nice LCD.

There's a good possibility this person is kinda clueless to the technicals of racing, and is likely using an automatic, which will not allow for drifting, or any proper racing at all IMO, except real life drag racing.

With my LCD I can notice frame rates up to around 50-55fps, but, and I dunno if it's just me, certain renderere's are more noticeable. For example, LFS at 30fps is a complete slide show to me, unplayable, however, Doom 3 at 30fps doesn't seem nearly as bad. And this seems the same with other games using the Doom 3 engine. (D3 engine is best example for me) Counter Strike Source runs around 150-200fps, most of the time it doesn't feel as if it's any higher than 40-45fps. All source games seem this way except Team Fortress 2, where the engine is updated majorly.

Anyways with LFS I have it locked either at 62.5 or 100, depends. Uncapped maxed out with 8AA and 16AF it jumps anywhere from 70-80fps to ~200 But I always lock it, no need to run the CPU or GPU any hotter than they need be.

Don't worry it's certainly not global, in fact most racers probably don't even use AA. It requires a lot of GPU power, a 8600GT is probably the minimum needed to even use AA.

I've been playin around with LFS since '05, probably 400 hours of offline play, but I never really took it entirely serious. So, anyways I've been racing online, mostly learning how to follow rules, turn one, awareness, etc etc, and I've got it down really well. But I've always had a problem with RWD cars because I'm on keyboard, and coming out of apex is just, absolutely hell, usually induced oversteer and praying I don't wreck anyone, but then my tires are shot or I eventually spin. SO, TODAY, I'm looking through the options and I see "Button Control Rate", !!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I did not know this existed, I always thought without pedals I was screwed, wot, or no wot. Well, needless to say I've knocked a full second on average off my lap times, and I wreck only half as often, perhaps less!

I guess I wanted to post because I consider myself new, and I think it was a noob mistake. Maybe someone else has overlooked this and it will help them, well anyone on keyboard anyways.

Maybe it's not worth starting a thread, it's just...wow, I'm actually so excited, I can compete finally, without having a wheel. (Won't have one for a long time, maybe never)

It does, the older driver did as well, it was just bugged. I guess it is a very common issue among this community with 8 series cards. Anyways, the new driver is good, performance seems the same, but everything works. I still haven't tested to see if the bug is gone, because I finally got nHancer to work, now it looks great again, so I'm not gonna mess with it. Maybe someone else with the 175.xx driver can tell us.

Thanks for trying to help guys, turns out it was some kind of bug, I posted the explanation in the original post, again thanks. This was certainly a strange issue, I'm usually the one giving advice..this really had me buggin a bit.

The hayabusa is just..... amazing. I haven't been on one yet, and if I had the opportunity, I'd probably hesitate.

Well, I always knew there was a bug with the NV 169.XX drivers, so I'm used to it not working that way. But, nHancer always worked, it was the only reason I had it installed. But now, it does nothing, just like the NV control panel.

I've tried reinstalling, removing all old files, profiles, even anything in the registry, reinstalled, and somehow it still remembered my settings.

Now here's the strange part, and it must be related. I cannot change any of the options for LFS in nHancer. It will let me choose anything I like, but when I close it and reopen it, it has my old settings I used to use, which are actually the settings I want. So then I tried adding LFS.exe as a new profile, and it applied the same settings and won't let me change them either.

All I did was, uninstall my nvidia drivers, install the new ones. Didn't like them, properly uninstalled and reinstalled the 169.25, absolutely everything else works perfectly. My overclocks are fine, I can change them as much as I like, in other games I can change settings as I like.
Somehow, nHancer is just, stuck, with these settings, won't let me change them, and they're not actually functioning. If they worked I woudln't care, because it's the setttings I want. Other than reinstalling, I dunno what to do, I dunno how the app even remembered my old settings... I even tried moving the LFS folder to a new folder, so the path wouldnt work, then addded LFS.exe from there as a new profile, and still, same settings come up, it won't even allow me to set lfs settings to global, it will say and act as tho it does, but when i reopen it, it's back to the way it was. I'm at a complete loss here, this all started when I changed my drivers around, but it's back to exactly how it used to be because I got frustrated and just did a restore. I did a restore directly before I installed the new drivers, just in case I ran into any bugs like this. Nothing helps, and I'm clueless.

Yeah 169.25's, I think it was you who originally told me. Then I was told to use nHancer, and I've been using it a long time. Now after a driver change, then change back, it won't work. I'm thinking registry problem?

I decided to install Nvidia's newest driver and do some benchmarks to see if they're any better, because with vista, each driver is a real hope for improvement. Anyways, no difference at all, except. When I went back to my old driver, and I did so properly (sweeper etc etc), now I can't get nHancer to work in LFS. The NV CP never worked in the first place, so we already know that doesn't work. So then I decided to do a restore, I created a restore point ahead of time in case of something like this. I restored, everythign seemed perfect, and now I can't get anything to work, no AA, no AF, nothing. Also my performance even seems less in LFS, but it's really hard to tell I'm so used to having 8xAA and 16xAF.

Any tips? I even reinstalled the game, nothing, reinstalled nHancer entirely, nothing.

When I first get it, it will be later summer, early fall, perfect time to drag, so, I mean, I can post some drag video's, of me losing to other 800 hp mustangs and camaro's, or I can go on import night!!! Just put on a set of 10.5's and launch hard as hell, they only run 1/8 mile, I shoudl run mid 8's.

Anyways I promise to post videos, but I don't think I'll do anything ilke what those other cobra's did, maybe first gear thru third, not 160, not even with the pirelli's, blow out, and ur dead, or someone else is dead. But I'm good with a cam, I'll throw up some nice one's, and not just the one's of me winning.

It sucks, there's two for sale in my area right now, one that's yellow with black leather, and only 25k miles, but I my CD doesn't mature for two more months....Uhg.. Btw, it took me a year to decide what car to get, it's gonna be a lifer. (I have my VR6 for daily driver, fun car too)

I'm kind of a hypocrit, I tell people not to speed or street race, because most people simply can't drive. But I've owned 7 mustangs and several modded imports, and I spend "most" of my time at the track, however, on a friday night when me and my car club go for a 100 mile cruise, sometimes we dick around a little. There's one section of brand new highway around here that has steep banks and everything, you'd think you were on pocono raceway, ironically it's about 15 miles from the raceway, where I'm talkin about.
Anyways, I don't mess around where there can be pedestrians, and we don't race from a dig on the highway, no way. Only once in a while we'll race one gear, that's it. We cruise to a very beautiful part of PA near the Delaware River, and on the way back it's dark, that's when we have a little fun. But we're very strict, and the drivers that aren't so good are upfront and honest, plus it's not hard to tell. When I open my glove box I have hundreds of slips from the drag strip

I hope I don't still have this trouble when I get the 9800GX2, because I'll have no choice but to use those drivers. I'll investigate further. Maybe the problem was I wasn't using Nvidia control panel to force my AA and stuff, I was using NHancer, in fact, I bet this was the problem. The glitch is probably finally fixed for LFS in NV CP so I won't need nHancer..I think I solved it. Btw, 8600GTOC for sale, 3 months old with warrenty, only 4% overclocked and only the last month, temps never even hit 80C. $75 Firm because it's a perfect card for LFS.

Also hit F8 and disable reboot on STOP errors and see if it's a STOP error or just a hardware reset.

Are you running SLI also? Maybe latest bios revision.

I'd like someone to collaborate on my advice because I have very little experience, and I'm kinda jumping around with all these idea's in my head because of that particular error. But usually that error will prevent a boot no?. I recall something like this and reading about it recently, but the system woudnl't boot, and had something to do with the amount of ram in the machine when windows was installed, then later adding or removing some. Eh, hope this might help a little, but I'm afraid I may be way off.

Ya sry I thught I was in there, half asleep. It is however important if it's actually a bug, for any 8600 users. And god knows whatever cards it may effect in LFS. It seems to only effect LFS.

I instaled this driver last night, and while it was great in every other game I own, the performance was cut in half in LFS. I tired everything, nothing worked. I'm using the 8 series card, 8600GTOC to be exact. I should say though, I've overclocked it some, but not much, about a 5% - 8% OC.

I was averaging anywhere from 75fps with lots of cars to avg 150 or so with none. Even blackwood took a huge hit in fPS, I was averaging 30-50fps, when I usually get way over 100-150, in 1680x1050 everything maxed out. I guess if anyone else has this problem lemme know, I'm getting tired of waiting for Nvidia to catch up to Vista.

After uninstalling the drivers, and reverting back to the 169.xx driver everything was absolutely fine. So is there actually an issue, or did my OC have something to do with it, becaue my OC was there the entire time, within both drivers the OC was there. I used RivaTuner.

EDIT: It must have been a bug, because I decided to go ahead and install the newer drivers anyways, because I play a number of DX10 games, so I need the newer drivers for peformance and compatibility etc etc. Anyways, I did exactly what I did the first time, and it simply worked. I have no idea what the problem was, but it's fine now. The only thing I haven't tested is whether Nvidia's control panel will allow tweaking of LFS, I'm just using nHancer still because of the bug in the old NV driver, I'll test it some other time, now that everything works, I'm creating a restore point, and not messing with anything.

I think the cars are fine. The cars are based on earlier models, and fairly accurately, to raise BHP and engine displacement just wouldn't make sense, unless the cars models are updated as well, which would mean replacing all the cars with newer ones. Myself, I think the cars are perfect as they are, and I'd like to see new one's, but nothing updated. I think it would be tough to have to lose any of the cars though, it would be hard to choose.
