It's certainly worth considering returning it, a laptop is a big investment, something you should really try to get right. You won't need an incredible card to run LFS, any 8 series would be great. (I'm not a fan of mobile radeon)

They don't call it a Jetta, I can't remember exactly what they call it atm..but it's there. It's a MKIV, with a VR6 24V, fun car. I love my VR6, they're one of the best engines ever made IMO, however I like the older 12V better.

Aight guys thanks. I took your advice, and took the time to do it, I got a very surprising OC out of it. I cleaned the case and fans really well before hand also. It doesn't get too too hot, and I got an extra 10-15% in most games, thanks.

He's excited about his new card, that's all. My local best buy finally has 8800's in stock, I'm gonna grab one myself.

I don't like doing it, because I don't have experience, I guess my lack of experience makes me lazy...right. Had I known I wouldn't have asked, but I also would have undercut the numbers some. I had never OC'd a card until a few months ago, and I didn't try maxing it out.

LFS had absolutely no impact on my driving in real life, whatsoever.. at least, I think. I drag race regularly(would burn some corners too but it's hard to get a chance, once/twice a year if I'm lucky/ audi driving experience, etc etc) and I gotta admit, it's been my real world experience that's made it's way into the simulator, not the other way around. Although I can see how it can be this way for some people, especially younger people who have little to no experience behind the wheel. Also, I didn't consider myself a great driver until my mid 20's, I had to learn many lessons the hard way, but that's what driving mustangs will get ya lol.

Strange, Vista home premium here, boot is very fast 20-30 seconds probably, shut down is incredible @ about 6-8 seconds(this started when I installed SP1). Definitely not normal.

I'm not a fan of hijacking a thread, but, I have a related question and, I'd really prefer not to start a thread.

I have a 8600GT OC Edition, and I'm curious what I should OC too. I'm getting a 9 series by july, so I want to OC this thing, nothin to lose, but I'd like to aviod frying it, since my budget atm is crap.

Stock clocks for a normal 8600 are 540/700. Present clocks are 576/730. Since it's already OC'd out of the box, I'm slightly hesitant, I don't want to damage it.
I plan to use RivaTuner, and create only one fan profile, just one simple moderate OC, anyone familiar with this card? I could use some numbers, it would save me the trouble of tweaking and tweaking, thanks.

Quote from LiveForBoobs :
Being the red one straighter than the blue, shouldnt it be faster? At least on others WR, they do it like the red.
For example here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah5JjhZqnCQ

On the first curve of the video, notice how he goes wide, but eventually aims for the apex.

Maybe its something to do with the fact that oval track has some inclination?

I do the same thing, when entering a corner that's followed by a long straight away, but I don't quite go that far. For the purpose of carrying a few extra MPH into a long straight. I think the reason he did it like that, going that wide, was for the same purpose, but to setup the next lap, to be a fast one. Normal circumstances I doubt this racer does that.

At least this thread is entertaining...

Well, in the meatime, if one of you could figure something out for me, why not tell me which of the panel technologies my LCD uses? Acer al2002w. After reading this thread, and having two other LCD's to compare mine to, I'd like to view the difference for myself, thanks in advance, because I looked around for a good hour online and found no answer. I'm assuming it's S-IPS, I could be wrong though, the other two LCD's I'm using to judge the difference look the same, but one is the glossy type, not a fan of that, but the image quality is pretty good, anyways I think this Acer looks a little better, especially in games, pictures and HD movies.
..for good humor, I just switched from a CRT, no more headaches, wasted electricity and space, I'm a gamer so now my view is far better, I can actually see what I'm doing when I open my shades on a nice sunny day.. I like that the geometry is perfect, colors are vibrant, and I can take it with me anytime I like. And I guess most important, my video card has the power to drive all my games at the native resolution. I could go on about all the things I like about the LCD, also about what I don't miss from the CRT, forever. Until recently I had no reason to understand the technology behind LCD's, now that I do, I see no reason to ever own a CRT again, but I'll admit ten years ago I wouldn't touch a LCD unless I had no choice, such as, a laptop.

Do the buttons function properly outside of LFS? Also, you're absolutely sure it has nothing to do with the FN key, or is there one? I can't remember, I thought all lappy's had one.

Hmm, I just went onto the Oval, with the XRT, and the frame rate was steady at like 198 in the pit lane, out on the track it sat right around 180. No AI cars, all maxed. Yeah, seems like the power users haven't been posting on there.

Are you talking about the grand stands? They're all blue.... but I don't remember if they're supposed to be.

I would totally get that if someone else gets it first, make sure it's as good as it says.

Most of them are actually still there, at the very least bits and pieces, until that part of the HDD just happens to be written on again, or formatted.

I don't see how that system can hold 60 frames with those settings.

Finally getting a new card, my PNY 8600GTOC is for sale, I'm gonna grab a 8800GT Overclocked Edition, then I'm done with upgrades for a while. Although I was thinking of picking up a couple raptors, for windows, and games, and leave my barracuda for mass storage.. Man PC's can be so addictive and expensive!

And..

Quote from srdsprinter :CRT boys, but find it hard to believe 60fps is constant:

http://lfsbench.iron.eu.org/?c=completemax

Are those really the best scores? Seems really bad, I could nearly take first place I think. Maybe not many people have submitted... I know there's plenty here that can top those numbers, unlocked I avg in the 120-130's typical racing, only a couple AI, 8 or 10 at most, 1680x1050 16xAF-4XAA. We should do this benchmark, I think I will if I get bored later tonight.
Edit: Just read it over a bit, seems like a hassle, but I should, there's no limit on the settings and they want 1024x768 res used(for compatibilty for everyone)!!!! Hah, I think there's a few of us who could easily break 200fps in that res, with 8xAA and 16xAF, I think someone with a killer system (quad extreme & SLI) should do it!

Sounds like a background task is hogging recources, I can't think of any other reason for such an unstable frame rate. Check your background tasks to see what's going on, and is this offline and online, or only one or the other? Uploading stuff while racing online will do this, usually you'll time out if this bad though. Do you know how to do this?

Another thing, at that resolution, a SLI config is probably not even necessary, I'd bet one 8800GTS could handle any game you throw at it, even crysis in vista using shader model 4.0. I mean, I can run crysis on medium settings so I can't imagine having 4 times the shaders to work with, even on high settings it's still playable. But the anomolies you speak of, in the graphics, I think it has a lot to do with aliasing, so I'd adjust the secondary AA settings, there should be one or two you can change around.

So this thread has gone from stupid americans, to cheap americans, ignorance is bliss I guess. I dunno though, I don't think I'm stupid(But then how would I know?) and my house, I do all the work myself so I know it's rock solid, and it's not nearly as bad as some have said, but every house is different, and most are built in bulk, compare it to anything else, including cars, it's the same thing. But nobody really does anything about it, why? They would be paying more for their material items, and getting paid less to make them, our entire economy right down the toilet.

It's all about money, everything is about money, money money money, like it or not. Myself, I hate it, I hate materialism, at least on the scale I observe in my daily life, but I live in america where it's practiced like a freakin religeon. But who I am to say, just another pawn in the mix of it all. These topic's are too complex for public forum, lets talk about taco's, beef taco's!....?

My bad for going off topic, but I think this question is very applicable and I would really like to hear it from you guys, real gamers, not websites technical explanations.

What are the differences in LCD's, example, what the hell is TN? What is TFT, how come my old laptop had TFT, the reflection off it was so bad I sold it...

I know we got at least a few of you who can make me understand, I know a lot about CRT's, but only recently started paying attention to LCD's, because now days the ghosting is tolerable, and well, NO MORE HEADACHES, still overstimulation which doesn't let me sleep.... Anyways, someone paint a picture for me? danke sehr
