Quote from Forbin :I don't know what's wrong with your car's transmission, but my father's BMW, my brother's VW, and my Kawasaki, all with manual transmissions, hardly make any noise at all when changing gears. In fact my little Kawasaki 250 probably has the loudest of the three, but that's because the transmission is right there, unmuffled by any insulation.

There's only one time when I get a reasonably loud sound when changing gears: in neutral, with the clutch out and the engine running, I pull the clutch in and push the gear lever down for first gear, at which point I get a slight clunk as the engine side of the transmission suddenly comes to a halt. When I'm actually on the road, all I can hear is the engine and the wind.

Mine makes more of a physical note than a audable note, you can feel it go into gear, when when you release the clutch, you get that moment of change in gforce that you cannot feel in a game, that could be aided by some kind of dramatization of the sound. May it be a clunk, an engine studder (which is more to do with the actual transmission physics since the engine sounds are created via rpm) or what not, that area is a little grey.

You an also be in -- neutral when shifting without the cluth depressed, then when you hit the clutch it'll pop into that gear skipping the other ones.

Quote from Scawen :I agree, there shouldn't be feedback in normal operation, except when the ABS comes on.

A fault like a warped disk would make it wobble with each rotation. And air / gas / etc in the system would make it more spongy.

Tristan, are you sure about no racing cars having ABS? I know it's like that in several classes, such as F1, and as a guess that would apply to most single seater classes. But i guess some (or most) touring car classes allow ABS? There's no reason to want to lock a wheel so i guess if it's allowed then it will be used - as it has one advantage over purely driver controlled systems, because it can do its momentary release operation on individual wheels.

There is some feedback through the pedal when autocrossing my car, from heating them the rears warped a little during one run, but other than that nothing, as far as ABS goes i remember a certain series i came across that allowed it, and i know F1 allowed it many years ago, but as with the feedback, nothing substancial.

Clutch is a little differnt, i can feel the force through the pedal as to how much the clutch is grabing, slipping, but its also distance oriented.

To try and get back on some sort of lfs topic, vendetta do you know where exactly that stretch of road is?? i mean like a street adress or anything, i've been looking for a nice stretch of road to make a fantacy track for n2k3 out of, and that has a nice look to it.

Ok so its not lfs, but its sim racing, i'm getting close

I didnt like the physics engine in F1, I dont like it in GTR, odds are against me liking it in this, even if it does feature more cars that I like.

thats bumpdrafting alright, shouldnt happen with the formula cars, but its kinda a bug with the physics. Stock cars on the other hand use bump drafting much more frequently, although it is not proper to do it while in rotation. Formula cars are so on the edge in real life just that little bit of a tap could send them spinning, not to mention the drastic handling side effects of having a car that close

Quote from ajp71 :They are the only works team, there's no credible opposition to whatever PR stunt they choose to pull off next

Huh? I think there is some kind of misunderstanding, this is not a PR stunt, they have been planing this for years now, they obviously think it is going to be faster, and the car has been on the track testing with this motor for over two years now, TWO YEARS, thats a lot of money and time to put into a "publicity stunt"

Drop the tabloids and pick up a racer magazine

This is the real deal guys, a few years ago a team ran a deisel in the 24 hour and it suprised a lot of people. This is audi, the creators of what could go down in history as one of the greatest race cars of all time, they know what they are doing

Quote from Matrixi :Indeed it isn't. I wish so much, that the clutch in the game would be actually all manual. As in, if you're in gear and you drop the clutch without giving gas, the engine should stall and shut down. Same thing for spinning 180 degrees, the game keeps the engine running by pressing clutch automatically, and frankly I hate it that way.

Also if you left off the gas at speed and downshift it wont slow, or as in my car throw your head through the window, its almost more effective than braking and a vital part of racing...that seems to be missing from the game.

I like the idea, everyone likes personal setups, but you dont NEED them to go fast. Factory stock style racing is about adapting to the car, not adapating the car to you...

I doubt this would ever be added though unfortunatly due to its arguability

My assumption, gut feeling, tells me the physics will still be miles behind lfs..

and the graphics seen there look very fake, like boxes with pictures on them, rather than lfs of renders meant to look real, fleshy, but the textures need work. I think the graphics engine has way more potential than what I am seeing there.

Then again, im the most lfs biased person alive

I dont have a problem with that, I was banned from one server (the only server) for hitting someone after the race because i spun out in t1, i guess he thought it was intentional and instantly got banned :\ but I guess i'd rather have clean servers with the risk of getting banned than a wreckfest
