Something similar happened to me during a race some time ago. But unlike you, I moved out of the way.

Quote from sinbad :I think you're always findable within LFS, though, with the "Find Username Online" thing.

Not if you're online at a hidden server. Then it'll say "the user is online at a hidden server". Im suggesting that this, or something similar, always would be the case for invisible users.

Quote from obsolum :Not a bad idea but if people really wanted to find you they could still do so, just by checking your racing history on LFSW. If they see you just completed a race on a particular server 2 minutes ago they will still know where you are.

How are the races held on "hidden servers" dealt with? Is the server name censored or it's races not shown at all? Either way I guess the races of an "invisible" user could be treated the same way.

Perhaps Victor could add the option not to show which server you are online at. Just like you can hide your online statistics at LFS World. That would make sense in my opinion.

If your server is connected to the insim relay (ie LFS World) the master server can send a welcome message to your clients as they actually join the server.

Quote from lfs.net :Live for Speed S2 hosts use TCP and UDP port 63392 by default, but when starting a host, you can enter any port (but be advised that some people only have the default ports open with their outbound blocking firewall). Some people have problems with high port numbers. They should try lower numbers, as some ISP's are blocking high ranges.
If your firewall or router also blocks outgoing packets, you should open port 29339 as well, which is used for host<->master communication.

Since the author of the movie was nice enough to give you all the information required, all you would have had to do is google.

Fun! I'm not such a big fan of the Forum N00b-award though. Sure we'd all do it for a laugh but it might not be as funny for the person who receives the award.

Quote from danowat :My suggest, decide on the catagories yourself [...] open it up here and it will be 2010 before you get anything done, you know what this forum is like..............

My thoughts exactly.

Quote from MAGGOT :Fel, how can you drive with the pedals so close to you? Your legs are damn near vertical there. I need to stretch out to be able to drive even half-decently.

Yeah It is a bit odd isn't it? I think it might because of a combination of having a high desk and the pedal's tendency to slide if they're approached from a lower angle. I'm not positioned that way when driving real cars ...

Edit:

Quote from Zachary Zoomy :do us all a favor and put on pants and socks before doing your videos!

Being bare foot rocks! At least most of the times. I was just preparing lunch when a piece of onion jumped out of the frying pan and landed on my bare foot. It hurt a bit.

Thanks! I know!

Edit: I knew showing too much skin would bring this thread off topic.

No offense to Franky, but perhaps "the world's best commercial LFS server provider!" is a more suitable description?

Quote from thisnameistaken :And it might mean I get a race in the LRFs / LX4 occasionally, which practically never happens online because everybody's scared of them.

Everybody except Blackout and his pals and all the 56 racers that participated in this race.

Edit: Woops, OK. Some of them drove the FXO. But on the other hand surprisingly many chose the LX4 even though the TBO class was available.

Isolated server lag on a machine running multiple servers

Tonight we experienced something very strange on one of our event servers. It is hosted along with a few other servers on a dedicated machine running Windows 2003 Server. It's bandwidth and performance should not be an issue (which it also has proven on many occasions).

Here are the details:
  • About 40 seconds into the race there is suddenly an incredible amount of lag.
  • All cars disappear on and off during roughly two minutes.
  • Some cars disappear for 1 or 2 seconds, other 10-20 seconds.
  • No one times out nor disconnects / gets disconnected during the lag, but,
  • the lag stops as soon as [TDRT] Riise spectates.
  • A race that started on another server (on the same machine) at exactly the same time didn't suffer from any lag.
  • During the first one or two lap(s) of the race, there is something odd going on with the track textures (when tabbing between cars).
  • The event logs of the server does not show anything out of the ordinary.
  • The network and system resource utilization was constantly low throughout the race.
Server-side replays from the server in question (server A): race session - qualifying session - warm-up session.
Server-side replays from the other server (server B), that did not suffer from lag: race session - qualfying session - warm-up session.

Please note that the lag only occoured for two minutes during server A's race session. I'm just linking the other sessions in case they are needed.

Edit: There seems to be something wrong with replay of server A's qualifying session. Don't know it's related.

Nice initiative! I reckon it'll encourage a few more players to join the jump and bump servers.

I'm speechless.

Seriously, if it's such a big problem and you can't wait for patch Y just re-download an old version. Which version do you prefer? I'll help you find it. Actually, I'd do anything to put an end to this discussion.

Quote from Jakg :Every issue i've EVER had with LFS has been with my computer - this is a common DRIVER ISSUE.

Try removing the drivers completely and installing the latest ones.

Wrong. LFS is poorly written. That's why it is able to malfunction for every ~thousandth person.

Oh, whaddayaknow?!

Thanks for the clarification, but I guess I'd find out sooner or later since my servers aren't run under Wine these days.

Edit: Did anyone report this in the bug report forum yet?
