Verbal deoderant . . . I like that. But some of us really don't have the time to spend pissing around with 'prooving' how to drive properly when we only have little time to fit around everything else. What we would like to do is join a server that we know we're not going to get wrecked out on T1 (or if we are then we know that it's an accident, unless our resident oldies have turned rougue on us) Then we can get on with some racing without the undue pushing and shoving and reduced playtime.

Don't get me wrong, I have had some top notch racing on some very open servers. CD1 or CTRA1 for example. But more often than not it's a trial of patience whilst I try and make it through T1 in one piece to make it through the rest of the race 'proving' how grown ups race. But I would be very happy with a server that I know is populated and that when the race starts I can race into T1 comfortable in the knowledge that noone is going to wipeout half the field because they got lead weights in their right foot and the steering lock on.

Quote from luftrofl :I don't agree with you about the XRR at all. I can get into corners very well with it but coming out is difficult to get the same speed as the FZR.
Are you confusing it with the FXR? The FXR can get out of sand traps much easier than the XRR, from my experience.

I don't think I am confusing things . . . .

Slighty confused about your interpritation. So let me try and clarify this. The FZR will have a lot better traction out of a corner (If driven well and setup well) Because it has all the wieght over the back and driven axle, hence it has power on traction that is unmatched by any other GT. The FXR has a front engine but rear wheel drive, plus a turbo, which means that the arse is as flighty as a Swallow during Migration. The XRR (and here my technical knowledge mught fail me because I have really have not spent any time in it since noob days (some of you can and will use that against me ) is a four wheel drive front engined creature, hence it will power on understeer (depending of course on the front rear power distribution and setup) so it's exit speed is far less that either the FXR and the FZR. Paritcularily the FZR which if driven right can exit a corner like nothing else. The problem with the FZR is that it don't go into corners which is where the FXR completly canes it's rear end.

So I think I'm ok in the point I made, unless I am confusing myself and you even more.

unless I'm getting my cars all muddled up. TBH I really don't pay much attention to what their called. So now I see the confusion because that is exactly what I have done. D'oh me. Just do some self editing, the rest of it makes sense.

Aye, it's the older set that seem to understand that you are playing the game for the games sake. Not to hack, baserape, crack, wreck, exploit or any other such rather juvanile methods to climb to the top of the manure heap. It makes a complete mockery of any 'real' skill leagues or somesuch.

Also on a more mature server I would be far more willing to help someone I know will use that assistance for the better rather than just going 'Sum1 GIVE ME SETUP NOW!!' and ramming you off at the first corner . . .

Plus I want to learn. And I know that older guys and gals are for more willing to impart knowledge if the right questions are asked . . .

Although I don't know how populated it would be. And how you could restrict it. And whether 30+ is slighty too old as I'm sure their are many responsible 20 somethings out there throwing their G25 across the room in a fit of pique . . . . or is that just me?

But no teenagers though. Thats just way to much in another country for me . . . Too many hormones.

FXR if driven and setup right can wipe the floor against most comers, but it needs to be driven on that slippy slidey knife edge to get the most out of it . . . If you can control the rotation and the power application it kicks sand in everythings face. But that what makes it so hard to drive to the max.

I personally favour the FZR, always have, and untill they bring in V8's probs always will. It's big, gorgeous, the engine is at least at the right end of the car if not on the right side of the axle and once you learn to setup and control that big 'ol rear end it's a joy to drive. In my eyes it's the middling car for people like me who just don't have it for the FXR but can at least get near to getting the most out of the FZR.

The XRR. It's, well, it's kinda . . . It's just . . . . . Well, it's . . . It's dull! I know some afficionado's will flame me for this but it's the noobs car. It holds the road, it'll go round corners and it'll go fast down the straights. Mostly without causing the driver too many 'I appear to be facing the on coming pack' moments.

So, it's the FXR in my eyes that is the most difficult to drive but once mastered is the most ultimatley rewarding plus it can't get out of sandtraps hehe.

My ten pence worth.

Date of Manufacture: 28th Jan 1977.

Mental age: early Teens . . . YEA! LEET! LOL! ROFL!. . . . and other such yoof sayings.

And I intend on staying that way. I'll be setting up my invalidity mobile for some leery sideways action when I'm 90. PIMP MY SCOOTER!

I must admit, having been trying for my CD qualy time in my few hours spare after work I ain't got 'alf annoyed with toy town coming out of school and onto LFS. So if there is serious consideration for a more adult *cough* sorry, a more mature server with some nice genteel racing then I'm well up for that. I'll bring my flatcap and the bentley. But I can't drive too fast because the wife's bonnet blows away in the wind. Plus the champagne gets a bit knocked around and the strawberries bruise. Prehaps I'll just pitch up on the knoll on the back straight Of Aston National and watch you old duffers puff and pant your way around. Cheers! Chin chin!. *Clink*

I would have thought (But I am yet another 'no expert') that they would have different designed aero packages for different tracks, slippy ones for the likes of Hock and Silverstone and 'Blunt' ones for more twisty stuff and then within those design limitations I would have thought they can adjust to a certain degree to fine tune the setup. I would think that absolutly no adjustment whatsoever wouldn't lead to productive racing with these types of cars . . .

try driving with even a hint of oversteer in the FZR and you've lost your rear tyres in about . . . . Well, now. Really. Racing is all about getting the power down to convert that power into ultimate speed, you don't get that if your spinning the wheels up, creating smoke and looking out of the side windows to see where you are going.

Sure, in games like NFS and other such nonsense the aim is to capture the most marketable demographic to part with their hard earned pocket money so therefore they are going to make those games bright and shiney and easy to drive in the whatever the latest fashion is . . . . I.E sideways.

Lfs, on the other hand, doesn't panda to popular wrongness and is steadfast and true in it's unbending approach to realism. Which means for us, dear paying punters, it's bloody hard to get anywhere quickly if you prefer a new set of rear tyres every five minutes.

I race with the thoery that grip is good and that if you keep loosing the back end, by however much, then your doing something wrong. Particularily in the GT's and S/S. Everything else is just fun so you can drive them like you want. Although having said that most fast lines in the whatever classes (espiacially the rear wheel drive thingymabobs) do require some power on oversteer to get you exits good and fast, but still not to the extent of 'drifting'.

Drifting is wrong. End of story. Unless you got a few mill in the bank to pay for all the replacement parts.

Which foot you brake with is entirely up to you. You will find that rll drivers tend to be right foot brakers because that is what they do in rl. I drive a mixture of auto's, manuals and computer stuff so I have actually developed an ability to mix and match. I actually use many techniques such as left foot braking and heel toeing in a professional remit, though certainly not racing.

If you ever get the chance go look at some of the pedal cams out there on youtube. You will find that most of the great touring car drivers and Auzzie v8 drivers will mix and match all the time. Left foot, right foot, heel toeing. For them it's whatever method suits the moment and what they are trying to get the car to do. But then they are proffesionals and know exactly what to do at any given moment (well, nearly anyway).

So it's whatever you are comfortable with. There is no standard, just different techniques.

My experiance with ASNat (Baring in mind that I havn't really driven since I was mousing and that was years ago) is that it's a technique track . . . .From the chicane to the middle section, it's about getting your car through the twisty stuff. Next time your on track watch some of the fast guys. Keep an eye on their splits and corner speed and attack. You will find that their top speed will only be a few mph's quicker than you on the straight but where they make up the time is in the braking zones and corners. Practice, practice, watch then practice some more. It will come to you.

Oh, and don't be afraid to play the setup bud. If you feel the down force is too high then lower it (In my AsNat hayday i was running 3/7 front rear split. But hell knows what it would be now) So don't be afaid to change things to adapt to your driving style and attack.

Did I mention practice?

Go get 'em tiger

My ten pence worth.

Havn't read all the crap above but I get the jist.

For them that drift, LFS prides itself on realistic modelling of real cars. That includes real clutches. In Real Life, you try and drift your unmodded Honda Civic and you'll soon find you have no clutch left. In fact it'll burn out a hell of a lot quicker than the ones in LFS do. And they are lot more expensive to replace than it is to go buy Rfactor or Project Gotham or whatever is out there now that pandas to your sad addiction to sideways action. True drifters have uprated clutches that are designed to slip, balanced brakes with many man hours and muchos dollari spent on them to take corners slow and sideways. They also have a rubber bill that would make most of the prostitutes in Nevada blush. LFS has got more realistic for not allowing you your playtime and forcing you to clutch shift properly.

At some point in the future LFS might let you uprate your clutch in your standard road going 'Sim' car. But as yet it can't, or won't. At some point we will all have FFB pedals that will allow to really balance the car. But you guys will still moan (Particularily americans)because you can't drive a stick shift. You ever tried drifting an auto? Don't happen (I am preparing myself to the correction because I am sure someone, somewhere is/has doing/dun it.)

Drifting is a minority sport in LFS. You've had it good so far that you've been able to do it. Unfortunatly (for you) LFS is all about being realistic and things are only going to get worse for you. Bst you come learn how to drive with all four wheels pointing in approx. the same direction and find out what real racing is all about.

Nuf sed.

*Edit* Prehaps using a Civic (seeing how its FWD) was a bit pants. Someone who knows about these things find a car that disalusioned peoples try and use.
