I am half way to having such a system. At the moment it simply consists of a database where you store all your event and driver details and a script that you run which adds all the statistics from your results page. It also allows upoading of quali and race replays.

Still developing it now and you would only be able to use it if you can write SQL queries.

Eventually it will allow drivers to enter themselves, create entry lists, email passwords and all that stuff but its a long way off at the moment.

I need to check with my sponsor whether or not the kit is available to non UK residents. I don't see any reason why it can't be shipped. Who pays for the shipping is a question I need to ask.

For those who don't have a car then why not enter anyway. Only 1 person will win this event but it will be run with the usual controls and judicial that all the Gentlefoot.com events have been. This means you will have great racing anyway and this is the only thing that has attracted drivers to the Gentlefoot.com events in the past.

Quote from Bean0 :Nice one dude

Their application list is a bit short though.

They are developing kits for more cars as we speak. By the time the league is launched there should be a few more cars on the list.

Also, I think they can develop kits for cars on request but I would have to check that.

I have found a new sponsor for Gentlefoot.com. I will be launching the 'Gentlefoot Gecko Challenge' in the coming months.

The winner will receive a Gecko Suspension kit for their road car worth between £400 - £800!

See http://www.geckosuspension.co.uk/ for more information about the prize.

Further details will be published soon. Post here if you are interested.

In the GTTC we ran a 24Kg ballast on the FXO to even up the TBO class and this seemed to work perfectly. There's plenty of replays on my site if you want to see what I mean.

Good luck with this.

With such a huge number of servers out there you will find it extremely difficult to get regular large numbers of racers on there. CTRA has been successful because of all the value they have added with their system. You need something similar I think to get good numbers. Often even the CTRA servers are quiet.

When I ran the GFC/GTTC the league aspect helped to get a few racers online occassionally as they would practice for the league. This coupled with some posts here in this forum and occassionally I would get enough racers on there for some good fun racing. But it was the exception rather than the rule.

Don't want to sound pessimistic but I think you may be wasting your time unless you can create something like the CTRA. Sorry dude

Thought some of you blokes might be interested in this motorsport video site. There is some footage from a recent event at Brands Hatch on there along with some great on-board video from a trackday at Goodwood.

Enjoy.

Some sets will feel better on some tracks than others giving the impression of more of less grippy tyres but that is not the case. It's just the balance that changes.

This is speculation but I believe that different tracks have grippier of less grippy tarmac and I believe this is the main reason for the difference in the way a setup feels from one track to another.

If you have a car set up perfectly for a dry track, most people like a tiny bit of oversteer mid corner and a little less in transition.

In real life if you then drive that same car, set up exactly the same, on the same track but it is raining you will find the balance is even more overtsteery. The reason is that there is less grip and because you set up the car for dry weather with a little less grip at the back than at the front you will find the back becomes very loose simply because there is less grip at both ends but the rear is a little stiffer.

Conversely, if you set up the car very understeery for the dry track then when it rains you end up with no front end grip at all and loads of understeer. It's exactly the same situation, just in reverse.

With this logic in mind it makes sense that one dry track compared to another dry track, one with more grip than the other will result in a different car balance in the same way that a change in weather does.

Ofcourse if Scawen pipes up and says "no - all tarmac in LFS offers the exact same level of grip" then my theory would be blown out of the water.

So, has LFS been designed so that different track surfaces offer different levels of grip? Scawen?

Good luck. It'll be a hell of a lot of work for someone to do. You may find that people are willing to do it for a while and then get tired of it and the idea dies. Also, watch out for all the people who volunteer to do stuff but then never seem to get it done.

Best bet is to be able to spread the work amongst lots of people so it is only an hour a week or something. More chance they will keep going if they lose interest a little.

I've had world records in the past and have given my set to a driver who I know is capable of beating my WR with it. The reason I have done this is because I know it is possible to go faster and then when the new WR is set I can look at the guys lap and see where he was quicker than me, thus learning how to be quicker myself.

I have always given my sets out to anyone who wants them, most of them are even posted on my website.

At the same time I understand why people want to keep their sets to themselves and so for this reason I don't think setup information should be available with hotlaps (other than what you can find out by using F1PerfView and AFS which isn't conclusive).

Quote from BenjiMC :I went to the Brooklands festival. I managed to get heikki Kovalainens autograph and a few pictures with the 07 car . Was a really cool event.

A mate of mine went to that but they still wanted £35 each to get in even at 15:30. So they went and watched from outside the track somewhere. Might go along next year - down the road from me.

Quote from Gentlefoot :I have already turned all the power off to everything. Are you seriously suggesting that unlugging a USB will make any difference?

I will try your suggestion now as I have an open mind about these things

Quote from morpha :Now that might sound really stupid, but how about a simple reboot? Tried that?

yes I have

Nope - unplugging the usb made no difference either.

I don't think it is a hardware problem as the G25 is working fine with GT Legends.

Quote from SamH :

I have found that the Logitech power pack has "memory" sometimes. I've found, occasionally, that no matter what I do with drivers and reinstallation/reboot, until you unplug the Logitech power pack for 30 seconds *FROM THE WALL* and plug it back in, my wheel will not do anything it's supposed to do. Turns out I'm not the only one to experience that at all. Give that a spin.

Nope - no help for me

Got some great photos from BARC at Lydden on Sunday. Am gonna add them to the motorsportevent co.uk site tomorrow. Planning to take a cemera every time I go to these things from now on seeing as I spend most weekends at a track somewhere.

There was a skyline there (will be in photos) that sounded fantastic and I thought hmm - a decent sound recording device would be nice . Then again a half decent camera with some decent zoom will be the first thing.

oh well. Just have to put up with my 7 year old 2 megapixle digi for now

Quote from PAracer :Perhaps you should stay off of the curbing. It might result in a slightly slower lap time, but also consider what the damage does to your average times over 10-20-30 laps.

A compromise no one likes to make but every now and again you have to in long races.

Saw some hilarious 750 Motor Club racing at brands at the weekend. Those things with the JAP engines are hilarious.

But the reason for my post is this. As can be seen on the calendar (www.motorsportevent.co.uk) Formula 1 testing is on at Silverstone at the moment. Completely free to get in!

Still today and tomorrow if any one fancies it. I went last year and if you have never seen/heard these things in the flesh I strongly recommend you go along.

Quote from Dru :This is a shame indeed... any chance that the community (not necessarily the members) can help you out at all?

For instance - what are you needing?

A server and some webhosting?

Its not the server or webhosting that is the issue although I do have huge bandwidth and disk space requirements with all the judicial review and videos and stuff.

I have had large numbers of offers for servers and hosting which is nice nevertheless

The issue is the 10-20 hours per week I was spending on running the events.

Anyway, there is a plan to move forward now and you can read all about it in the gentlefoot.com forum if you wish.
