Remove "skin not found"-messages

If a user doesn't want to use the automatic skin download, he will get an error message for every single skin when he enters a server, that's quite annoying. So my suggestion is to remove the skin not found messages. There is no use for them because you can already see that there is no skins if a car is white.

That video is great, it shows that the AI is even capable of driving busses!

Seriously, of course modding shouldn't be done unless the devs allow it. But nevertheless it is great to see what the LFS engine is capable of. GTRs, F1, road cars, busses, even motorbikes are possible - that just shows how good it really is.

Nice article, definatively worth a read!

Only thing that is a bit wrong is, that it sounds like LFS did copy rfactors online distribution model - in fact it's the other way round.

P.s. The drivers republic link is wrong, it should be http://www.driversrepublic.net/

I just got the skin not found message and the LFS crash (same address) again. How to reproduce:

- Use 512x512 / 256x256 skins
- Connect to a demo server with somebody using default skin (e.g. xrt_default) on it.
- Message: Can't open : XRT_DEFAULT
- Leave the server, switch to S2 and connect to a S2 host (bug test server 2 in my case), someone with the same default skin has to be on the server.
- LFS will crash: 7c9206c3

Edit: The following crash could be related to this problem. Although it's a different address, it's in the same module (ntdll.dll) and also happened when connecting to the bug test server 2: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=448037#post448037, http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=448180#post448180

Quote from teaz-R :These messages started appearing after choosing to download the highres skins. Don't know why?

SKIN: No file size info - ... etc

I'm getting these messages as well, but using low-res skins. Trying to reproduce now.

Edit: I just got a crash trying to connect to the bug test server: 7c9206c3

Demo banning works fine. Maybe the "Did not receive guest info"-message could be replaced by "You were banned - please don't whine at the forums!".

Read the test patch forum and you will see what is happening. We found a bug during testing and this one needs to be fixed first.

Quote from GeForz :I tried it several times and did not succeed in getting a black screen

Same here, not a single black screen yet. Neither with the provoke program nor with manual switching.

Yes, but I've tried it several times now. Clicking LFS to bring the focus back, window, full-screen. No black screen, it just doesn't happen here. What graphic card / drivers are you using? Does it depend on the screen res / color / refresh rate settings of LFS / windows? I'm using the same (32bit, 1440 x 900, 60 Hz (built-in lcd)) for both.

I cannot reproduce it here. If I remembe correctly, I did never get a black screen while switching window/full screen.

What happens here is, that I can make LFS go fullscreen without having the focus. So LFS is on top, but I cannot click any buttons. If I click, I can make other programs (or desktop icons) popup over the LFS window, just for the time I click.

Maybe it depends on the graphic driver, if you get a black screen or only a LFS without focus as in my case. So I guess the problem is, that LFS can go full screen without actually having the focus. Is there a way, you can make it sure, that LFS always has the focus if being fullscreen?

There were still some keys missing (i, o, shift+o, 5, 6), LFSW sms sending and some info about mouse steer, so I've updated the files again.

Please note, that some shortcut keys (spectate, enter pits) have changed, so most keys.pdf (including English and German) are wrong at the moment. I'll upload a new version of those soon.

You need two seperate LFS directories, one for Vista and one for XP. Just unlock them both and it will work fine.

Edit: Too late...

What about disabling all those AI messages? Imo they aren't of any use for us anyway.

Quote from aaltomar :I think this is from the engine Scawen made which was replaced:

Don't be fooled by that screenshot. The reason it looks so old is the fact, that there is no texture mapping. Add textures, lighting and a higher poly car model and it would probably look like the early v0.04 screenshots.

And please don't think that Eric built the S2 tracks in just a year after the S1 release. In fact he was working on Aston at least since mid 2002, so that's three years for that track!

A w24 crash reported by a user in the german forum, happened when leaving the pits.

Edit: -1 for DoN's suggestion, as most people actually don't look into the keys.pdf and the shortcuts are quite handy, even for newbies.

Wow, that was really amazing to race online against 31 other people. LFS ran amazingly smooth and the FPS were ok as well on my PC. I've attached some replays, to show that LFS is really the best online racing simulator out there!

The devs had their reasons why the LX8 and MRT6 got scrapped. The LX8 was really undrivable (way too much power with zero downforce), try to increase the LX6s power with LFSTweak to see what I mean. The MRT6 was just slower then the MRT5 because of it's downforce - and who would choose a slower, similar looking car over the faster one?

Quote from Pasci :Please have a look at the two pictures.

The w21.png contain "time" in the "german version"?! I think, this should be "Gesamt" or something like that?

In version w17 is the translation correct (picture w17.png)

No bug, the string just wasn't translated yet. I've attached the new language file, I guess Scawen will include it in W22.
