I think it would be a good idea to gather some common problems + solutions e.g. in the lfs wiki. With all those threads around here it's difficult to find the right one.
I think creating a seperate wiki for each language and linking them in a way like Wikipedia does would be the best solution. I initially choose to put it all into one wiki, because it's a bit difficult to make those seperate installs work together.
And here is a detailed guide how to set up several wikis (one for each language) on the same server, using the same files and database. Maybe you can take a look at it, Victor? http://www.steverumberg.com/wiki/index.php/WikiHelp
I've made some minor changes to the german translation of the lesson texts. While working on it I noticed, that the on-screen messages are now placed under the finished textbox.
In German it is more common to write "on/off" instead of "yes/no" in option screens. Would it be possible to add two new strings for the yes/no buttons so they aren't shared with 3a_small_no/yes (used e.g. in the exit message) anymore?
P.s. I'd like to see the sky in the mirrors as well, is it hard to make this option "off, main, + mirrors" like the ones above?
René Smit, the programmer of F1PerfView, managed to add real 3D sound to Grand Prix 3 with his GPxPatch. I remember him saying, that it was pretty easy using the DirectSound libraries. He said something like you just have to tell DirectSound the position and it does the rest for you. So just for the case you want to add 3D sound in the future, maybe René can help you with this.
Yes, if I remember correctly it happened more frequently when using high-res skies, but as well with the original ones. The thing is, that the problem only occurs after some time. So there is enough graphic memory at the beginning, but it somehow seems to get filled up more and more (bug ?). To me it seems a bit weird that 128 MB should be completely filled up although in the lfs graphic options it says something around 40 MB. And even if the 128 MB are full with some crap, shouldn't the modern AGP cards be able to use the system memory as well to avoid such problems?
I had this problem from time to time with my old ATI Radeon 9600 graphic card. It happend randomly, but mostly some time after switching between windowed and fullscreen mode. I don't know if it started with a specific patch, but it's not a new problem.
One of the Live-for-Speed.de servers is now running in S1 mode.
Edit: I've tested the server and played with two other S1 players, but no one else from S2 joined. Maybe it would be better to remove the "S1" beside the name in the serverlist so S2 players don't hesitate to join that host.
The new temporary messages for FF and FOV changes are nice, but they are only visible with the frame rate display enabled. Is it possible to show them at the top left as well when the FPS counter is disabled?
Same here. In the menu it says "Sound buffer: Off" when using a replay speed other than x 1.000.
Despite this bug Direct Sound works really fine on Win XP. I guess the only disadvantage is, that the sound stops when the LFS window is loosing focus.
P.s. And as a WinXP user I'd like to set the sound lag below 0.05s, just to show the Vista kids how "slow" their OS is.
Edit: I found another bug (or is it a feature ?). When you are ingame, the menu sounds (like Click, InvalidKey, ect.) get echoed as well, just like the engine sounds.
If you look at Blackwood you will see, that the textures are high-res enough for racing. Don't forget, that the S1 tracks (Fern Bay, South City) were made about 3 1/2 years ago with only minor revisions for S2. Same goes for most cockpit textures, they are now about 4 years old! No wonder they do look a bit outdated.
