What's up with the sound of that antilag? Sounds pretty cool

I'm roughly ~140th in the road rankings, I might grind my safety rating up to 4.99 A in order to reach the top 100, but I don't think it's really neccessary and I probably won't end up driving in the Pro series at all anyway

Boxing is very much a sport, and it certainly involves tactics and skill. I do see where Amp88 is coming from though - but the problem lies with certain spectators and their lust for blood. I know people that love to watch K1 or whatever just to see two people kick the living shit out of eachother, and during every match you'll see rabid lunatics in the audience on the first row who would leave unsatisfied if they didn't get some blood on their faces. I don't think the problem lies in glorifying violence, it's more the fact that some people can't watch a contact-sport without their brains reverting back to the stone-age.

Quote from buck77 :I'm killing to see the Vette...

What you guys think about the Lotus' sound?? I didn't like it...

The problem apparantly lies with the software, but the sound has the potential to be near perfect. Here is a comparison of the actual recording used and the iRacing version: http://www.soundwaveconcepts.c ... _Then_iRacing_Samples.mp3 (posted in the forums)
That's pretty much as close as it gets tbh. It just seems like the iRacing interpretation is slightly more high-pitched.

Edit: you'll notice that the YouTube video sounds quite similar, but the in-game engine sound is washed out slightly by wind noise etc. I still think it's fairly accurate, if a bit 'clean' sounding at worst.

I'm inclined to agree a bit with Dave on this issue. To me, the Mazda doesn't feel completely 'right', and the aero model feels much less sophisticated than what I remember of LFS' model. It's all a bit moot for me to talk about, since I'm not a race-driver and I don't know what a real Star Mazda feels like, but all in all, I just can't get a feel for the car, and I don't think I ever will. The Solstice, Skip Barber, Spec Racer, Late Model etc all feel fantastic on road courses, but the Mazda feels detached and I never have a clue what the car is doing at all.

When I learn a new track in the Skippy I can keep it on track and gradually increase my pace until I am up to speed, but in the Mazda I will spin and spin and spin until experience or trial & error teaches me what speeds are possible. It's quite frustrating and although I know there's a problem with the driver, I can't help but feel that there's something lacking in the car as well. It's not hard to drive - it's much, much easier to drive than the Skippy, but I can't connect to it, and I can't feel where the limit is and when I'm about to step over it.

Case in point: When I drive the Skippy around a new track, after 10 laps I can figure out roughly what my optimum lap would be after a week of practice, and roughly how far I would be off from the top qualifying time. In the Mazda, I never know until I look up the qualifying charts, and then it's always shocking to see that there's another 1-2 seconds to gain on top of my estimate. It's like I always need visual confirmation from others to determine what my own maximum pace could be, and it feels absolutely impossible to sense the limit of the car.

It's a bit of a shame really, because I can't seem to step away from the Skippy as there's no series out there which is more interesting to me.

- The SRF is great, but driven around dead-beat tracks and the competition seems to be rather stale in comparison to other classes.

- The Mazda doesn't feel right (see up) although it seems to be the most competetive class with some degree of activity.

- The Radical just feels like utter bile. I really wouldn't want to be caught racing it dead.

- The Daytona Prototype was pretty much stillborn in my mind; way too little activity and races at bad times. The car itself feels 'alright', but I don't like the lazy revving engine and silly low-power in first gear. Here's an endurance-class race car that is beaten off the line by a damn Solstice for the first 50 meters: it's sad. I know I can gear the car to spin the tyres off the line, but for example the Chevy Truck has a worse power/weight ratio, and it spins like a maniac into 2nd with similar gearing. It just feels like they wanted to make standing starts retard-proof really.

Anyway, ramble ramble, I'm done

I'm not much of a technical guru in the camera department, but isn't 1080p quite, well... shit, for a resolution? It just sounds like the most recent hype - 1080p televisions, 1080p cameras. It's just 1920x1080 - that's basically just ~2 megapixel isn't it?

At least that's how it feels for console gaming: "I got 1080p on my xbawks!" - yes, whoopdeedoo. I had "1080p" on my PC in 1999. Welcome to last decade.

Anyway, I know squat about camera specs, so I should probably not get involved.

It's up when a dll is present in the root folder (I think it is, it's been a while) Crommi made a neat bat file to quickly copy it in/delete the file from a second location, which makes the HUD plugin easier to enable/disable, but when it's loaded you can always press Ctrl A (I think?) to hide it.

Other than that there's a lot of stuff you can edit in the main .ini to disable certain features such as rpm meter, delta, track map etc.

I'm not too sure about the latest features, but the only problem I have with my older version is that the sim exit time is considerably longer when the plugin is activated, although I don't know if this has been addressed in later versions and I'm a bit too lazy to check.

It's been stated many times that the development teams are split in such a way that physics, track and car development are separate entities within the iRacing development team. If they stop working on cars, it only means that they stop releasing cars, not that they can magically start improving physics at a faster rate. The car modelling teams would just be doing nothing; they don't magically convert to physics engineers and immediately integrate into a completely different team efficiently.

There's no either-or situation on the development side, and they have obviously chosen to keep releasing new content instead of holding finished content in reserve. It's good from a financial and marketing point of view: they get to claim they have more content, and they keep making money to pay out salaries and continue kickstarting the marketing machine to bring in more drivers (or in this case, American NASCAR fans who'll stick around for a month )

I sure would like to know what sort of improvements are going to be released for the core simulation at the start of the next season though. They need to push their aero model in the right direction a bit, it still feels significantly worse than LFS', though I'm obviously no real racing driver...

Having a Mac used to mean something; some software ran better on it. These days, can anyone who owns a MacBook air actually look me straight in the eye and tell me it's worth the money? Can't put DVD's in it, can't plug ethernet cables in, crappy disk-space, it has poor performance for the buck, overheats... one USB port (really?) and it costs a lot more than a similar-spec windows-based laptop, more than twice the amount actually.

It's just superficial rubbish. Macs aren't better than PC's anymore, and PC's aren't better than Macs. They just appeal to different target audiences, and use different brand strategies; enjoy your marketing.

The guys from SRT described their hands-on experience with FM3 with words along the lines of: "incredible, I couldn't believe I was playing a console sim" - They generally know their sims, so Forza 3 seems very promising indeed.

It's just a shame that the Porsche wheel is the only confirmed premium wheel to be compatible.

Quote from Shotglass :tsuchiya keiichi is a much more likely candidate based on how larey the usual stig drives

This.

Also, Schumacher is chained by so many marketing issues it's insane. As soon as someone even asks him about driving some car that isn't a Ferrari or Fiat, some executive's butthole over at Ferrari will clench up tighter than a duck's ass. He wasn't even allowed to drive anything other than ROC cars and Ferraris at the Race of Champions, and I'm sure there were some pretty strict deals with Ferrari about Schumachers appearance on Top Gear - no driving the reasonably priced car, no touching any other cars, etc.

It's 100% impossible for Schumy to be the Stig, not just for those reasons, but a hundred more.

Quote from Gills4life :LBP, GT5, MGS4, Resistance 1 and 2, Haze, Motorstorm, Uncharted 1 and 2, Killzone 2... What does the 360 have? Forza, GoW and Halo 3. Lovely.

I'll be honest and say I was just trying to troll people, but I'll actually respond because it might become constructive at some point:

LBP - Not a game
GT5 - Not out yet
MGS4 - It's a movie
Motorstorm - Mentioning a generic game sorta re-enforces the 'no games' point.
Resistance 1, 2, Haze, Killzone 2 - lol, console shooters. (and no, Halo isn't good either, in fact Halo is the most overrated series of this decade, it actually disgusts me how much false credit that ball of steaming mediocrity gets)
Uncharted 1 - Haven't played it, looks like it might be decent, won't judge. Uncharted 2 isn't out yet.

I wouldn't exactly say I'm an Xbox fanboi though. There are exactly 3 exclusives I enjoyed enough to warrant €60 on my xbawks: Ace Combat 6, Forza 2 and Fable 2. Depending on your preferences, all these games might be just as easily dismissed as all the PS3 exclusives you mentioned.

GoW (and the sequel) I enjoyed, but I borrowed it from a friend and wouldn't dish out cash for it, the same goes for nearly every other exclusive for either console.

In the end it comes down to personal preference. For me personally, the PS3 has no games; not one. My brother sat me down for InFamous the other day, and after 10 minutes I just threw the controller onto his couch and wanted to play some SF4 or whatever. It's just generic crap and it's been done a hundred times - might as well play a game like SF4 that doesn't beat around the bush with its classical gameplay.

Who cares about graphics for consoles anyway? My brother has a PS3, I have an Xbox360, and the difference in graphics is amazing - the PS3 just wins hands down, the quality of the graphics is very obvious even when his PS3 is hooked up to a crappy 90's TV and my XBOX is hooked up to a decent 22" TFT.

It really doesn't matter anyway though, since the quality of a console is based on its exclusives and not its fancy graphics. I have my PC for graphics, and neither of those shitty consoles is ever going to touch that

also, ps3 has no games.
