Quote from tristancliffe :it's not as good as spit rubbed in with a tissue. So I did that for the race. No misting up issues, and no changes in breathing that I'm aware of. I did give it the occasional wipe with a finger though

That line would have resulted in pure "Kev gold" had it been written six months ago, but, owing to his continued absence, and my obvious lack of intelligent witticism, that's the best reply i could come up with, and i'm not even sure if it's spelled correctly. Feel free to ignore...thank you)

Quote from SidiousX :I mean, if someone is too lazy to hit a damn button then that's their problem, I did it for two years. For the handicapped people, one solution is for the person to use the buttons on the wheel for shift-up/shift-down. And he could use one of the other buttons for the clutch.

Go on then, try it yourself. Set your wheel up with a couple of buttons for up and downshifts - and one for the clutch - and don't forget to set a couple of buttons for the throttle and brake - and two more for left and right view aswell - maybe another one for rear view - and one for pit limiter. Then throw yourself into T1 in the middle of the pack on a crowded server.

Easy ?

Quote from Greboth :Off topic slightly here but if we have downgraded a billion from million million to thousand million what do we call a million million now? Thinking about the wording though billion should be million milion (taking bi meaning 2)

A million million is now called a trillion, at least it is in US and UK.

We used to use those old namings, but moved over to the American system about 40 odd years ago, mainly for global finance i would guess. Johnny foreigner still uses the old fashioned naming of large numbers (as you've described). I blame the French...it's always the French

Quote from Greboth :(Even if we say 1% mortality would mean 70,000,000,000 people dead worldwide.)

Few too many noughts there bud, that's 70 Billion. At the last count the worlds population was about 6 Billion (i.e. 6,000,000,000), so 1% of that is approximately 60 million, and to put that into perspective, it's roughly the entire population of the UK....yeh ! empty roads at last...bring it on

Anyway, apparently the current number of deaths from swine flu is more or less equal to the average number of deaths from regular flu, so it's probably a little too early to get overly worried.

Ugh, for the first time in 5yrs on this forum i'm actually gonna have to defend the Bible...and not rip it to shreads as normal, thanks for that .

But, the unicorn as mentioned in that book is a translation of the Hebrew word Re'em (or Rem), which ostensibly means any untamed or untrainable (i.e wild) animal. Although it's widely believed the biblical unicorn is usually describing the Rhino, and occasionally the antelope.

I'm no expert, but i think the mythical white unicorn with the horn and the flowing mane and all, comes from "Ye Olde Days of Yore" with Knights in shining armour rescuing buxsom damsels in distress (which is a bit of another myth actually). And is probably down to overtly romantic poets getting all slushy and girly and all that bullshit that poets tend to do...

Unicorns may well have existed in one form or another, but have since become extinct, i dunno ? But no, the unicorn of the bible isn't a horse with a horn sticking out the top of it's head.

Although, it is true that unicorns only eat wensleydale cheese

Have to agree with Blackout on this one. I think my PC is a slightly lower spec than his, but it runs the game with no problems at all, (WinXP, 1280x1024 with medium graphics, i.e default settings). So why you should be having such low fps's is very odd indeed.

Although, unlike Blackout, i'm not a miserly skinflint, and i did buy the game . But yeah, the AI are still as dumb as doorknobs and get shot at the first opportunity they find, which means i spend most of my time running round acting as medic. Only had time for a couple of missions, but apart from the AI's stupidity i'm quite impressed. If anything the full game runs even smoother than the demo, both the CPU and GFX card run at lower temps, so i would imagine with a bit of tweaking i could get some high graphics settings out of it

Quote from dadge :some of my posts have been deleted......what's going on??

Dunno ? What did you say ?

Anyway, just done the benchmark mission/test and i'm averaging 33 fps, so i'm pretty pleased, wasn't expecting anywhere near that figure with my humble little system.

If anyone's interested, the motion blur can be turned off by disabling post effects (or whatever it's called, reduces the bloom too). And the head-bob can be turned off in the games menu too.

That first mission's quite good actually, and there's a mini warefare mission in it to, as well as the editor. All in all there's quite a lot in this demo, should keep you going for a while.

What a cock.

He's demanding an apology. Maybe he should apologise for his loony comments about the teams, and the comment he made about Flav (forget what it was, but i bet it was derogatory) Or maybe he should apologise to Jackie Stewart when he called him a certifiable halfwit.

What a cock.

Quote from Blackout :I guess it takes a bit time to get used to the controls, but the first feeling is being disabled guy with amputated hands, especially at point blank range. But I got to give it a proper go tomorrow and adjust the controls a bit. And that motion blur is a bit confusing, you can't really see much while running, which is a bit silly.

As far as i can tell they're exactly the same controls as Arma 1, so i'm used to it now and it's almost second nature. Guess they are a bit odd if they're new to you. But seeing as you're a professionally trained killer now, i guess you'll get the hang of it

Apparently you can turn off the motion blur and the bloom, but i'll have to check the BI Forums to find out how to do it, + find out the best settings for performance over prettyness...

So, the demo took 3 1/2 hrs to download, and i instantly got an error after installing, so had to download the 9c x redistribution thing to get it going.

And, much to my surprise, it does play on my machine, and, it plays it rather well too. I just kept it at the default settings it gave me, but it still looks really really good, and is a darn sight smoother than Arma1 ever was. On first impressions (albeit brief ones) the control system is much much better, nowhere near as clunky as Arma 1. The enemy no longer have heat seeking bullets, the maps are excellent and the environment is much more realistic and characterful. There are a few shading bugs, and i'd like to get rid of that motion blur and tone down some of the bloom. But Initial impressions are very favourable.

Matti, you should try the demo. My CPU is an Intel E6300 running at stock 1.86mhz. Dunno how that compares to yours, but although i'm not able to put a number on the FPS, they're easily good enough to play with. My GFX (ATI 4850) was running a tad hot and the fan was kicking in and out, but it's a warm evening with no breeze, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I definitely think the full game is worth getting, and it can only get better from here on in.

Quote from Luke.S :Well the full game is almost 10gb and it ****s up with more than 3gb of ram. so use the-winxp tag if you are on vista or 7 and use 8gb of ram

I'm busy downloading the demo now, but that's mainly so i can find out if my machine can play it. I still use WinXP so no worries there, but my system is pretty much on the button with regards to the recommended specs, apart from the CPU. After reading some of the comments on the BI Forums it looks like i'll be lucky to get 20fps . Think we need Kegety to weave some of his magic again.

Quote from Blackout :Still unsure if I should buy this. I'm really, really pessimistic about PC gaming.
I'm pretty sure I will like the game, but it will be the most frustrating love/hate experience if it crashes all the time or runs badly.

If Arma 2's too much for your system try Arma 1. Fully patched up and with the ACE mod installed it's actually quite playable. The CWR mod is a great addition too.

Quote from Jakg :I've got 3 PC's hooked up with 4 cables in my room (laptop using wired and wireless from the homeplug thingy) so I can assume that the error can't be with either the software or cabling at my end. As such I reckon the problem is somewhere between the output of the router and the homeplug's themselves.

Now that makes sense. I had assumed all these PC's were dotted around the house - like normal people do - Are you running an internet cafe in your bedroom or something ? It's kind of you to allow your father to have one all to himself though, very generous .

But yeah, i think you're right, there's obviously a problem between the router and the homeplug. So just test each part in isolation, and if nothings wrong with any of that stuff, go to the tool shed and find a big hammer

Ahh i get you, i thought you'd said in the op that all the PC's went down at the same time (including the wireless connection)

It is a bit odd that you've still got a full set of lights, but, if you're getting power but no communication, that could still be a cable problem. I'm assuming your using an ethernet cable ? can you connect them up with USB ? If so, try that, it'll be slower but might help to pinpoint the problem.

Unless you're with BT or Telewest your ISP will have nothing to do with the cables between the main exchange and your house, (or the cables running through the house for that matter).

When the internet connection is cut have you ever checked the phone line to see if you've still got dial tone ? Come to think of it, do you have a good clear dial tone ? If there is a problem somewhere in BT's network the phones are always the first to go (they use two wires, whereas the internet only uses one)
