Not too keen on the round things at the front (headlights ?) but other than that i think it looks fantastic. Soo much better than the R8. Much more symmetry to the overall design, even that aluminium strip looks good. Lets hope they make it.
As far as new cars go, i'm (rather predictably) really looking forward to a couple of new Maseratis being released in 2009.

and
Pics 3,4) A smallish coupe to replace the 4200/Gransport
All pics are just artist impressions at the mo, but a few heavily disguised mules have been seen doing the rounds on the streets of Modena recently. But if they look even half as good as these photos i'll be a very very happy little mazzerfan
Yeah that seems to be the general consensus at the moment, so perhaps for the first couple of years they will run it as it is and rebuild in the off season. But then again, they might just shut everything down for the next two years and spend the time redeveloping the whole site.
It's far too early to say at the moment, but, another rumour floating around is Bernie himself is the mystery backer who's promised this 100m quid development money ! The owners are refusing to name this mystery person with all the dosh, so, you never know ?
Unless they go for a completely new layout unfortunately large gravel strips and huge tarmac runoff areas will be the look of a transformed Donny Remember it's Tilke who'll be doing the job so, you just have to look at the 'new' Hockenheim to get some sort of idea of what he'll be doing. Apparently it was nice to walk around that track two, infact drivers were known to get lost for hours in the woods if they broke down at the far end of the circuit
I agree it would be great to see modern F1 cars at the Craners, it was quite a spectacle in 93, but F1 has changed a lot since then sadly.
And 95 in an MX5 through the Craner Curves sounds like a bit of a squeaky bum moment if you ask me But then just being seen in an MX5 would be too much embarrassment for me to take
As far as the jet fuel making the track greasy. I'm only taking that from what the MotoGP guys have been saying the last few years. As far as i know the circuit was relayed last year, and if it's still really slippery then perhaps there may be something in it
As long as they don't copy Maggots version i think we'll be ok
And we're only horrible to those filthy smelly ex-colonies that jumped ship just coz they wanted a bit of pah inde-bloody-pendence. You fools, you'll see, we shall avenge all those who turned their backs on us. We shall once again rule the waves, we shall once again be called a Great Nation, indeed a GREAT BRITAIN, we shall fight them on the.....oh sod it, who the hell am i trying to kid. We suck, it's official.
Now piss off and go play with your bloody base balls.
It's completely off topic i know, but basically, James May from Top Gear fame wants someone to design a car for him :-
"So what I'm now going to do is invite detailed proposals from all you sheddists and mechanical engineering students (to build me a modern light weight car). And I'm not going to make it easy. I don't want air-conditioning or electric windows, but I do want carpet and a radio. Most importantly - and this is the hard bit - I want a properly engineered and finished car that will do 0-60mph in eight seconds, while returning at least 45mpg on the Combined cycle, or average driving around.
Please include projected prices, because if anything convincing turns up I'll pay you to build it for me"
I know we've got a lot of very talented engineers and some extremely intelligent sorts in here. So why not have a think and see if you can come up with something he might be interested in. Who knows where it might lead ?
Quite an odd couple of practice sessions today. Loads of guys going off the circuit, couple of big shunts, (Trulli was a lucky lucky boy after loosing his rear wing on Hanger Straight) and lots of other mechanical failures too.
All in all i'm at a loss to tell if Ferrari or Mclaren is the quickest and who in the midfield is looking strongest. Really need to change my team in the Fantasy League thing, but, not sure who to choose. Will anyone be getting grid penalties, will it rain, will Hamilton manage to finish the race without looking like a complete cock ? Will someone do the decent thing and successfully shoot James Allen in the head ? please.
Ahh come on, where would this forum be if we weren't allowed to poke fun at our American cousins....most of em have a sense of humour yunno , (even though they can't spell the word properly)
And yeah, i know of oval racings heritage, but, there's a reason it looks like that nowadays.
Guess i'm just a bit miffed coz i ain't got my invite for iRacing yet. But i'll certainly give the Oval a blast when it arrives, if AJP thinks it's cool then it must have some redeeming features, we'll see...
Apparently the sale of the circuit included quite a lot of the land surrounding the track. So i'm guessing that includes most if not all of the farm land to the south, west and north.
At first glance i'd say extend the track into that field to the south from the Foggy S, and then link up to the existing track at the hairpin in the Melbourne loop. (Will supply crudely drawn pics in a while)
[edit] Ok, lets try putting this in the right thread this time...
As promised heres a quick attempt at extending the track without destroying the old and much loved parts of the circuits. Perhaps the old section will need widening, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as it's done carefully and sympathetically. But with the new parts, i definitely think that southern field can and should be used to extend the track. And it should free up a lot of space to enlarge the paddock too.
Well, it will be changed for certain, and Tilke will be the one to redesign it. Lets just hope he's learnt from his past mistakes (excluding Turkey) and gets it right this time
But in the mean time, come on all you budding track designers.
Donnington has had a lot of problems with grip (or lack there of) recently. Mainly due to the increasing number of flights into East Midlands airport (just a stones throw away) And it's an old, short and very narrow track. Basically it's gonna need a complete overhaul if it's gonna be used as a regular circuit. There is land nearby which could be used to extend it, but i doubt that would be a viable option tbh. Shame London couldn't get it's act together and put on a street circuit, but who knows what will happen once the contract expires
I wouldn't have thought so. But then again, with a bit of creative accounting you could effectively sell the game with no content at all, then fill it with non chargeable mods. A small company in an even smaller niche market should be able to slip under the radar with that one.
As a matter of interest how much would a licensing agreement be for say Silverstone ? 50 - 60 thousand ?. Give a shady accountant a couple o' hundred quid, and the jobs a good'un.
Mine have gone up from mid 50's to mid 80's at South City with a full grid of Ai, on max settings (i think ?) and i was mighty impressed with that !. But 333 !, Come on Bud, you're just being plain greedy, why not share a few
But yeah, the game looks so good these days, pah who needs DX10, or even DX9 for that matter.
But i just got a bright new shiny addon for FSX the other day, and what with the new patch Z it's not such a great loss. TBH i've the same perspective as Dan, Kev and a few others, not really got the time (or talent in my case) to devote hours and hours into a new racing sim. So rankings and ratings and points and laptimes aren't important to me. Just hearing all the good reports coming from this thread kinda got me overly curious to try it out asap. Guess i'll have to wait, as they say, patience is a virtue...apparently.
