Martinsville Speedway - NASCAR XFINITY 2020

Welcome back to the 16th installation of the Layoutting series; something new for all of you!

Martinsville is an iconic short-oval track that is part of the NASCAR 2019-2020 calendar. Racers take part in the race, fighting for position on the track.

The track has been replicated mostly to scale, apart from the paddock area, which is currently vacant. The scenery and grandstands are in the guise of the actual track as well! Situated in the Blackwood Container Yard, this NASCAR track is surely unique and interesting to race on.

feel the NASCAR speed in a downforce limited FZR, or go old school back to the 90s in the powerful FZ5! challenge your mates to a battle or add this into your league for something quirky!

See you in the next installation of this series!

Hello fellow racers!

Several layouts will be re built and revamped over the course of this year to make the standards for Layout Racing League (LRL) - https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/93469-Layout-Racing-League

Hence, I will be uploading those track layouts to the current layout "Volumes" in previous pages; they will be named (trackname ) LRL i.e Broker Hill LRL!
These tracks are heavily modified from previous versions and should be able to host races with zero issue Tongue
Current tracks updated to LRL Standards :
Broker Hill
Mid-Town Ring
Lmaoring
Scawen's Racetrack

Also, Scawen's Racetrack is now available in Reversed/REV version - check out the track post here to download the new version! https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1932117#post1932117

Happy racing!

Quote from lucaf :Nice report again Nova! I'm sure these kind of reports raise the interest to the series. And I know it takes time to write such ones. The MPR was great to watch from the start to the end. Last lap fight for podium positions was epic! And GT4 was once again running that hilarious setup, I laughed so hard while watching it, because he drove it really well and did serious job behind the wheel xD.

Yes, it was fairy nice to watch the race again and catch battles I missed - I have to say the Simox did very well today, coming from Cruise background he has the pace and it will be interesting to see if he can try to close the gap to the top 2 in the standings Rofl

Also yes! GT4's civilian set up was crazy, just like in Broker Hill, I do not know how he controls it, amazing

Layout Racing League - Round 2, Mid-Town Ring, Race Summary

The grid jumps across the LFS virtual globe to Blackwood Custom, for Round 2 at challenging Mid-Town Ring! Racers battled hard, but fair, providing great racing but it was [TC-R] Pete who took the hat-trick - the qualifying, race win and fastest lap!

Qualifying

Drivers turned up for Round 2 of LRL eager to advance in the championship. Qualifying was once again very tense, with Pete setting the early pace ahead of Trespasser. The tight confines of the circuit saw drivers struggle to find an opening to set a clean lap, with the mid-field pace being ridiculously close, separated by tenths.

However, it was Pete who nailed a stunning hot lap to put himself 7 tenths ahead of closest rival, new-comer B2r spiky, who himself put a great lap to take P2 ahead of the championship leader, Trespasser.
RG Mandula, having had only a few laps on the circuit, put in a respectable time to sneak into the top 10 ahead of Michal. For the first time, we see two drivers - Matt and Suzuki, fail to make the cut for the race, qualifying outside the 107% requirement time.

Race

16. PitlaneRacer +2L Technical, 17. AA|Azyer +11L Mechanical, 18. [AMG] Derinus +14L Mechnical, 19. Matt +22L DNQ, 20. Suzuki +22L DNQ
Fastest Lap : [TC] Pete - 1:35.18
Penalties :
AA|Azyer DRIVE THROUGH PENALTY - PIT EXIT VIOLATION

Round 2 throws the drivers into the high speed Mid-Town Ring, and it was a spectacle!

Pete leads the charge down into the braking zone at Turn 3

It was a clean getaway for the field, tussling hard but cleanly as they exited Turn 1. Trespasser managed to pass Spiky to take 2nd down to the sweeping left hander as Pete clocked out and pulled away from the cars behind. Further back, Derinus out-braked himself into the first turn, dropping spots, while Sobis had a poor start, dropping from 14th down to the back of the grid, before repassing PitlaneRacer and Soini, who scraped the wall down the back straight!

The well-behaved field into the Carpark Hairpin

A man on the move

As the field settled into position, Ngottini, who qualified towards the rear of the field, appeared to have a better race pace, and was soon crawling his way up the order, passing several rivals to be in 11th by the 3rd lap; he would later go on the finish a well-earned 8th! Sobis, who was dropped to the rear, was also moving up the pack, making a very hairy pass on Jeff for 12th down to Turn 3.

The talking point of the race - racing incident, bad driving, or something else?

Lap 5 and the battle for 6th was hotting up between 9397 and Azyer. Heading down the back straight into Turn 3 - contact is made! Azyer is sent into a half spin against the barrier, causing drivers behind to take avoiding action. Mandula brakes to avoid the out-of-control car, and Derinus brakes as well. LCS-R Texas however, unsighted, barrels into him at unabated speed, sending the AMG driver spinning on the track, before being collected once more by MRc Michal, left with no where to go! Major damage to both Michal and Derinus, the latter subsequently retiring out of a strong top-10 position.

Post-race, the race stewards have decided that the 9397-Azyer incident is a Racing Incident. Both drivers misjudged the amount of space they had, with 9397 not running a tight-enough line, and Azyer squeezing him too much, coming off worse. What do you think of this decision?

The battle for 4th position

The race settled into place, as the pit-stop sequence cycled through itself, kicked off by Ngottini. Mandula and Azyer were the first of the mid-field to take their pit-stops, with Azyer running astray over the pit-exit line, receiving a Drive-Through Penalty, and retiring shortly after with damage from his earlier scuffle. Out at the front, the top 4 were still yet to pit, with Pete now having a staggering 9-second lead to Trespasser in 2nd, who was safely ahead of Spiky, with the B2r driver now coming under sustained pressure from [6S] SIMOX.

Dominating the race, Pete emerged back in the lead after his pit

The Saxon Gate chicane was waiting to claim it's first victim, and it was GT4tube who kissed it, sending him into a spin and back down the order, eventually finishing last in 15th, a disappointment considering his good finish during the Pre-Season race! Lap 13 saw Trespasser pit from 2nd in the race, hoping to gain an undercut or benefit from a Safety Car, however, the following lap saw race leader Pete pit for his compulsory pit stop, having built such a commanding lead that he emerged out back in the lead, ahead of the battle between Spiky and SIMOX for effective 3rd.

Simox pitted after a race-long battle for the podium with Spiky, hoping to leap ahead of him, with Spiky being off-pace. However, Simox emerged right behind Trespasser, who was struggling in his second stint, and this battle was hurting both drivers badly; so much so, that on the penultimate lap, Spiky pit and came out ahead of both!

Overtake of the race - Trespasser passes Spiky

Trespasser did not leave anything to chance, passing freshly-pitted Spiky right around the outside into Turn 2 for 2nd, an unprecedented passing maneuver, surely the moment of the race! With the bad exit out of the corner, Spiky had to defend from SIMOX, going side-by-side into Turn 3, with minimal contact, fending off to finish on the podium.

Meanwhile, at the front it was [TC-R] Pete stamping his dominance and claiming his first win in LRL, ahead of his main rival Trespasser, with Spiky finishing in 3rd ahead of Simox and 9397, whom had managed to jump several drivers like Katila in the pit stops. Ngottini and Sobis both found themselves in the points after a great drive, with Jeff and [MRc] KIG just missing out on the final point.
With the fastest lap going to Pete once more, he gets an extra point, and moves himself into top spot in the driver's championship.

Layout Racing League - Round 1, Broker Hill, Race Summary

We welcome the first official race for Season 1 of LRL, around the high speed Broker Hill circuit! 21 hungry racers put in their best but we see a new winner - Trespasser beating experienced counterpart [TC] Pete at the end with a better strategy!

Qualifying

It was an open guess to who would be taking pole position; a new track, new rivals, but it was AA|Mikke who stamped his authority once again to take a stunning pole position ahead of rookie AS|Kadir, who was the only other car to break the 1:33 barrier. Azyer lined up 3rd, beating LCS-R Texas at the end of the session. Pete put in a respectable time after little practice, and behind him followed Trespasser, MRc Michal, and our Pre-Season event winner, 9397.

Race

16. maneljuvi +1L Accident, 17. AA|Azyer +6L Technical, 18. [WCL] T.Soini +19L Technical, 19. AA|Mikke +19L Technical, 20. [MRc] KIG +20L Technical, 21. Sainted +22L Accident
Fastest Lap : [TC] Pete - 1:33.17
Penalties :
AA|Rane 10 SECOND POST-RACE TIME PENALTY - PIT EXIT VIOLATION

With a closely packed field, Round 1 was going to be exciting and so it was!

The pack ploughing into Turn 1 - incident free!

The start saw Mikke get a perfect launch to pull a gap down into the first corner ahead of his teammates, with Tofu BRO getting an excellent run in his more powerful XRG to gain 2 places and jump into 7th on the run into Turn 3. Further back, the XRGs of Katila and SIMOX moved up the order, taking places on the start. M3ciek got swamped by the pack, running wide into the run-off at Turn 3 and dropping down a couple of spots.

Sainted clipping the anti-cut devices, rolling - bringing out the Safety Car!

The first Safety Car period was triggered on the opening lap, with Sainted misjudging his entry into turn 5, turning turtle on the racing line. Great avoiding actions by drivers behind saw no further crashes, and the field now experienced strategy for the first time in LRL.

Early pitters taking advantage of the Safety Car period

Mikke, Tofu BRO and Katila made the call to come in for their one and only pit just as the Safety Car was called - taking advantage of the theoretically slower on-track speed; however, due to miscommunications, the Safety Car ended up too far down the lap, and drivers ended up driving briskly to catch up to it, before then following the SC speed. This meant, the early pitters did not fully benefit from their pit-stops!

Some drivers chose to pit on the second lap, and dropped down the order as the field passed. MRc KIG fell victim to a Bad Connection, followed shortly by Mikke retiring from the race.

Green Flag!

The restart saw Kadir lead away from Pete, with Michal and SIMOX promoted to 3rd and 4th following the pit sequences. The top runners, yet to pit, were eager to set the pace, and we saw what was to be a titanic battle for the lead! Trespasser was the man-on-the-move, making a move down the inside of maneljuvi before passing GT4tube for 11th.

The early pitters were keen to make up positions, and frantic mid-field battles ensued, with Trespasser, Texas and Jeff along with others providing the server with fantastic overtakes throughout the race!

The nail-biting mid-field battles - That's not the right line!

The middle of the race saw the dull period, with drivers putting in consistent stints and maintaining their gaps. Rookie Robert slowly slipped down the order as he battled to keep his car on the track. Meanwhile, Kadir and Pete engaged in a mega tussle for the lead, swapping places on multiple occasions before the latter maintained the lead, Kadir closely following.

Azyer retired from the race with a Technical (disconnect), which promoted Pre-Season winner 9397 up into 6th, but yet to pit; dropping back to the tail of the mid-field after making his pit-stop near the end of the race.
AA|Rane committed an unfortunate error, crossing the pit exit line and receiving a post-race penalty, dropping him one place, to 12th.
A slightly hairy moment with 2 laps to go with PitlaneRacer and the leader Pete almost saw an accident, and quickly followed was an incident with maneljuvi, rolling over on the same kerb that caught Sainted out, however, slid far enough off track to not warrant a Safety Car.

A close shave, heart-in-mouth moment

Race leader Pete pitted on the penultimate lap, hoping to jump ahead of Trespasser! However, overheating his clutch leaving the pits combined with the avoiding action the previous lap saw him lose out - just, to Trespasser, who stormed away and claimed his and the league's first win! Pete held off Kadir for P2, with Texas in P4 finishing best-of-the-rest. Tofu BRO finished a respectable P5 in a train behind Texas, with SIMOX and Jeff close behind.

With the fastest lap going to Pete, he gains one extra point!

Yes, agreed. Safety Car (SC) will remain, however, there will be a change in SC procedure to eliminate the "speed limit" issue, so drivers won't be lapping at different speeds under SC.

Quote from Mikus1212 :80% of racers were speeding under caution, penalties?
6.4.2 Drivers should maintain a regulated speed while catching up to the leader and/or Safety Car. Safety Car speed under caution is 100 km/h (60 mph).

Hey Mik,

Yeah. Niko forgot to audit the rulebook, this rule is supposed to be changed. As stated in the Pre-Race Driver Brief where everyone was listening, I stated that once Safety Car is called, drivers are to not pass other cars, and catch up to Safety Car at slightly reduced racing speed, then follow SC speed of 100/60..

Rules will be updated, but this is why the Driver Brief is important.

Congrats with your new licence, see you on track either in race servers or cruise!

**edit
UM21 and Sermilan wern't being mean - they were just being cautious. There has been a rise in "cracked" users who pirate the game, as well as already-licenced users opening a new demo account and begging for it to be sponsored so they can have two accounts.

You can actually go back in the forums and see some as examples, and plenty of these "noobs" in the S2 Giveaway thread sponsored by Kris. Its these people that made the community quite weary and if it wasn't for me coming to this thread late (and hearing your story), I would have said something similar to UM21. Far too many have fooled people for the majority of the community to just let something like this slip.

Hope this explains their reactions, and I hope you get their point because they are actually very nice people Tongue

Let's just put this behind and don't hold grudges, in this small community there is no need for disgruntlement.

There are plenty of leagues running about in licenced servers, previously most leagues ran in European timezone but me and nikopdr just introduced a brand new series with slight pushback on the start time to mske it feasible for people on the other side of the globe to race with the European racers as well. (Layout Racing League)

Anyway besides the selfless promoting, in short, there are activities in licenced LFS, covering many tracks, car types and race type. There's rally, race as well as custom stuff like LRL, as well as fun races like GT4tube event days or RTFR Extra Large.

Demo is where the largest pool of users are because thats where all new users join into in Free-to-play LFS, so of course Demo has the most active and largest community - but licenced is far from dead, and if racing doesn't suit you you can always check out Cruise communities, particularly TC Citydriving or Reality Cruise and so on.

**
there are actually active rotating servers in licenced just like the ones in demo, B2R has one as well as MRc I think, just that no one joins to start the server up.

Layout Racing League - Round 0, Mid-Town, Race Summary

The pre-season race was one to remember, with tight, hard-fought battles through the field to the finish.
It was 9397 asserting his dominance and leapfrogging his rivals to cross the line and claim his and the series' maiden win!

Qualifying

The streets of the Mid-Town Ring proved to be tricky and slippery, catching out certain drivers throughout the session. Katila topped the sheets early before 9397 set the pace and stood on provisional pole before 6Speed's Getrag pipped him right at the end. Them being the only two drivers to dip into the 35's, 3rd place was taken by Air Support's Kadir, closely followed by World Class Lion's Katila, who took forth from Cyankill by less than 4 hundredths of a second.

GT4Tube put in a great lap to secure 7th, upholding the cruise community while Kage and biroot rounded up the rear, 3 seconds down on the pole time.

Race

7. Vinsu +6L Accident 8. Cyankill +8L Mechanical 9. Getrag +9L Mechanical 10. Kage +15L Mechanical
Fastest Lap : 9397 - 1:36.07
Penalties :
Vinsu 25 SECOND POST-RACE TIME PENALTY - DRIVING INFRINGEMENT
Getrag DRIVE THROUGH PENALTY - PIT EXIT VIOLATION

The race proved to be full of action and errors, with mid-field battles lasting from lights to flag. No one was certain who was going to win, with the pit-stop bringing traffic into play.

Getrag leading the field through the opening laps

On the start, it was boost-time for Getrag, creating a gap to the rest. 9397 made a poor getaway, with Katila and Kadir getting the jump into turn 1. The field was relatively well-behaved in the opening laps, with no major incidents, apart from a careless tap from Vinsu onto Rydh which sent the latter into a spin down into the Carpark Hairpin. Vinsu would later retire, nullifying his post-race penalty for the incident.

Rydh getting the lightest of love taps, going round down at Turn 6

The first stint of the race witnessed tough battling for the podium spots, with pushing and shoving between the pack, all with great respect. 9397 eventually came out on top, with Kadir and Cyankill fighting hard for the final step of the podium.

Lap 4 and the tough street-circuit caught out its first victim, with Cyankill clipping the exit wall at Saxon Gate Chicane and coming undone from 4th position. Katila advanced up to 4th while Cyan lost ground waiting for the drivers to pass before rejoining.

Cyan would later retire the car on Lap 14, after making 2 pit-stops following camber damage, citing the huge gap to the cars ahead as the cause. A pity as with the pace he had a podium challenge would have definitely be on the cards.

An error from drivers seeing free positions being given away

A couple of laps later, Kadir dropped it coming in to Turn 3, running down the escape route and letting 9397 up into 2nd place.
Kage brought the car into the garage on Lap 7 with suspension damage, taking it one too far with flirting with the barriers on pit entry, ending what was a miserable race in last place.

Getrag fell foul of the pit-exit line coming out of his pit stop, receiving a Drive-Through Penalty, which would ultimately see him drop down to 3rd place behind 9397 and Kadir, before retiring from the race. A sad ending to his race which was proving to be strong and possibly an easy win!

As the race wore on, drivers felt the fatigue of a street circuit, most drivers scraping their cars along the walls and pushing too hard. With only 5 laps to go, GT4Tube made his one and only pit stop, putting in a great in lap to come out ahead of Rydh, and began to hunt for the podium spot and close the gap to the struggling Kadir ahead.
Kadir slipped and slid, struggling with tire temperature with only 2 laps remaining, and the Cruise sensation was slowly catching up. With no safety-car in sight, it looked like the Air Support rookie would be easy takings, however, Kadir managed his tires well enough to maintain the gap at the close of the race and take home a well-deserved 3rd place. Rydh himself felt the brunt of one of the walls in Sector 2 and dropped back from the podium charge, leaving GT4tube to bring home 4th, an excellent result!

Carpark Hairpin, Turn 6

Podium Ceremony, (from left) Kadir, P3, 9397 P1, Katila P2

However it was 9397 who took the race win, setting the fastest lap in the process ahead of Kadir and Katila!

An interesting race with the turnout we had and we hope to see much more action in Round 1 of the LRL - Layout Racing League.

Thank you to all participants for this race and congratulations to our race podium finishers! Race and Qualifying replays are attached.

Stay tuned for more information regarding the series start formally.
