just got the playseats evolution with gearshiftholder for the g25 and i must say it is fantastic! the seat feels like a real seat out of a sportscar, the frame is very sturdy and the seat can be folded for easy storage. price was 378€ including shipping.
so i got my g25 early december, set it up at my desk to test it a few days and everything worked fine. then i put it back in in its box and in storage because i was redecorating my flat over the holiday season. so it sat in its box for about five weeks.
yesterday i recieved my playseat and build it up set up the g25 and started to play - shock! - sequential mode on the h-shifter is broken!
to change from h-pattern to sequential you push down the shifter and turn the big silver knob. the knob normaly makes a sound like "klack - klack", however mine does sound like KRRAcks - sccriectch - krrCKS now is very hard to turn, and the gear lever seems to be stuck when in sequential. so it does not jump back to the middle position and is hard to move. h-pattern mode works flawless, no problem with reverse gear either.
another problem is the microswitch for the right paddle - this sometimes seems to stick when pressed and does not go back to unpressed for half a second. not that big of a problem because it is my upshift side, but if this problem arises on the other side i won´t be able to do fast downshifts.
seems like i have to return it and hope that i get it replaced. used my red momo since 2001 and aside from tightening the obvious loose motor haven´t had a single problem with it - and now the g25 is broken after three days of use?
anyone out threre having this problems?
peace mo
edit: seems that it was my mistake! as i dissasembled the wheel from my racing rig to bring it back to the shop, the sequential mode worked again like before. on further inspection i saw that the screws that bolt it to my rig were tightened to much, causing a slight bend in the plastic housing and so the shifter was sort of stuck.
now everything is back to normal. so no replacement needed. yesss, back on the track... see ya racing...
search the web for playseats ... they have two different models - the normal one and the playseat evolution - the last one has an gearshift holder for the g25 as an option...
prices go from 249€ up to 378€ for the evolution with gearshift holder... my evolution is ordered but not delivered yet, so i can´t say much about quality. the company also advertises and markets them for public events, thus they can´t be to unstable. just imagine a three day event with several hundred visitors... you get the picture.
tell this to the people at logitech, because it states on the box "works with vista" and then there are no drivers...
other than that i love this new wheel...
coming from a red momo it is quite a difference - force feedback is stonger and more accurate. the wheel itself is a little thin to my taste. i liked the more sportscarlike wheel of the red momo better, nevertheless the bigger diameter feels better.
the pedals are amazing, logitech did a real overkill on them this time...
little disappointments are the very steep pedals which are a little uncomfortable when sitting on a chair - will fix this with using a race frame, so i will sit a little nearer to the floor. wanted a raceframe for a long time and now i have the perfect excuse for spending another 250€...
as i work at the same desk i play at, the old momo was a breeze to build up and down, only disconnect one wire and remove the wheel frome the table.
with the g25 things are way more complicated, so i will be better of with a raceframe.
as most of you i dislike the fact that there are only two buttons on the wheel, but i work around this by using a paddle as the handbrake when in h-mode and the shifter in seq-mode when using the paddles for gearchange. i drive a lot rbr-rally so i must use different setups.
the shifter is a great new feature - although i think i need driving lessons now to get my new coordination together, because i was leftbraking for the last six or seven years. the biggest problem i have with the shifter is the fifth gear is sometimes hard to find and i end up in third.
another strange thing is that you can preselect a gear and the actual gearchange hapens whenever you hit the clutch pedal - is this a bug? and can this be used as an advance, because to me it seems the gear changes faster this way?
another thing that surprised me, after hearing so much positive comments about it, is the overall noise. the motor noises might be not as loud as the dfp, but the deep frequency of the gears generates a hell of a resonance on my desk. adding the click-clack from the shifter and a clearly audible ring rang from the gas pedal equal a slightly higher noise than my previous red momo. so no more racing in the middle of the night for me anymore i guess...
ups, long post, sorry it is late...
@all: what i was trying to explain was how they can "make a lan" through the internet so they can race eachother while not at the same place. they said they have not much money and i was trying to help `em out.
as i explained this way they would not be able to join a internet race as they use the same key. however this way they could race eachother and then share the one licence with going online at different times to race others.
if playing over a virtual lan with one licence, while not trying to acces a public server at the same time, is a violation of the licence rules, please may a mod or better a dev hit me with a big hammer.
did you just copy your lfs folder to the pc with win98 or did you do a fresh install? it is very likely that lfs is trying to run at a resolution not suitable to the older craphics card in this pc. one way might be to go to your better pc and change the settings in lfs to something like 640x480x16 60hz and make the game to start windowed and not fullscreen. then transfer the lfs folder to the 98 pc and try again.
maybe a fresh install is faster than this?
i get random disconnects, too. is there any way to test your isp other than phoning him? because i don´t believe in call centers to tell you the truth, they simply don´t know it.
what i also wanted to know: were the people posting here the only person on that server that got disconnected or were other players also disconnected?
another thing that come into my mind - is there a way that another player in the same race could spam your connection with something like constant private messages so that your connection gets overloaded? kinda like a script that tries to kill other player to his advantage?
however there is one way to play over the internet with only one licence without violating the licence rules. use a vpn then you are (or could be) at the same subnet. this is alowing you to race against eachother but not on internet servers as you are virtually not in the internet. i don´t know if it would be possible to invite other players via direct ip to this kind of connection.
yes watching the drift bible is definatly a must! great details like the foot camara, the front braking light or the forces that are made visible.
i´d recommend this for all racers to watch, even if they hate drifting.
to know your enemy can help you defeating him...
sometimes it can be difficult to decide how to behave...
e.g. take a slightly longer race with mandatory pitstop or pitstops required because of the distance. if i go into pits first, maybe i have little damage aswell so the stop lasts longer, it is possible to be lapped while in pits or just after leaving pits. now the car that is passing me is one lap ahead, so i get a blue flag, but at the same time i´m competing against him, because i know that he must pit, too. how should one react in this kind of situation?
according to the developers aa and af should be set to application controlled, because the game does this in a special way. if you turn aa on in control panel you´ll see vertical lines crossing the streets.
if i play lfs and after that switch to rbr all the cars feel to light. i compensate this by turning on the center spring of my wheel (red momo) to about 25% (in lfs i have 0%).
this adds a feel of weight to the driving...
other than that it´s a shame that we will see a third game gtr/gt-legends/gtr2 with an awful copy protection (which i will boycott furtheron) instead of a follow up for rbr which even included an official no cd patch in patch1.2...
i was not asked to be a beta tester: i was fully aware that i was buying a three piece (stage1-3) software from the beginning. and right now i have the pleasure to play a public prerelease of one of the finest in todays computer simulations, awaiting the final release and doing thousands of miles in endless hours of fun.
maybe you have to look better before you buy next time, or have a second look, maybe you´ll be pleased then.
but i could be... just imagine good old stunt driver from the golden days of computer gaming can be redone in lfs... that would be certainly a part of the lfs universe (from streetracing in moms cars to hillclimb events in a truck) that i would frequent regularly .
i also use a custom view like the "easy" view in the first post, but this is the most realistic viewing angle i could produce. i have the wheel in front of me and the monitor about 60 cm from my nose. so i don´t need an extra wheel on the screen (yes i know you can turn driver/wheel off) and the viewing angles in cockpit view are not as good as in custom view. i tried cocpit view and messed with the the fov till it fits my wishes, but then i´m forced to use the virtual mirror, as i could see neither of the real car mirrors.
maybe that changes with the upcoming triplehead2go fom matrox, as this will finaly enable me to play lfs on three monitors.
forcing people to one view is not a good way in my opinion - they did this alot in nfs porsche, so sometimes i was forced to play in birds view.
if you like hardcore racing, just make up your private server and invite only people who are willing to follow your rules... that easy
peace mo
edit: didn´t see the "i like transparence", first. yes, that is something i can agree with - to know if there are driving aids used is ok. but in the end its up to the driver: some are fast with tc on and some are even faster if tc is off. would you consider forcing tc off , also?
since the cockpit is a graphical thing that doesn´t need that much pysical calculation, i think its clearly the geforce thats bottlenecking here (along with the small ram).
my advice would be to buy another 256mb of ram, or buy one 512mb ram and have a better upgrade possibility to 1gig. that would set you back around 50$. then i would recommend to upgrade the graphics card. since agp systems are comming to an end, maybe you can get some used gear of a mate. then i would recommend looking for something like the original radeon 9800pro, or a 9600 / 9550 with 128ram. don´t go below that (e.g. 7500). don`t buy a geforce 4 or fx, but if you find a cheap 6800 you are good. that would be anywhere between 50 and 150$. depending on a new or used buy.
btw your mobo supports up to sempron 2800+ with real 2ghz and a core that is very similar to the athlon64, but don´t just upgrade the cpu as it will get to fast for a harmonic system.
so tell us more about your pc: how much ram? what type of motherboard? how much ram banks are free? this infos are needed to determine which upgrades are technically possible. then we can look whats the best you can get for your $.
ever tried richard burns rally? with changing road conditions and weather with real heavy rain!!! there´s no way to rehearse this stages more than to know the way - the driving is so different if you are the first driver in the grid, or if you are the last and have way more grip because the other drivers have cleaned the road.
it sounds like: if somebody got talent he´ll be good at anything he does, with a lot of practice
don´t know if we are talking about the same corner, but there is a small bump directly beneath the 50m sign... maybe your rear is very light at the spot?
try 16bit, albeit i don´t think it´ll help that much...
can you extend your ram? 1gig should be not to much money, unless you need pc133 sdram, as they are harder to find nowaddays.
next thing i would upgrade is the graphics card, don´t know if you got any money?
the last thing i would upgrade is cpu and motherboard, since it is already the fastest component of your setup.
as far as ingame tweaking or windows tweaking, try the latest nvidia drivers, see if they can help - if not look in forums for the best driver for geforce3 (can be detonator 44.03 i think). also check your motherboard and sound drivers, maybe upgrade them aswell.
ingame try things like the haze effect on/off, texture filter off, vsync off, and have a look at the difference between frame limit on/off. also turn the sky off and watch if it does any good.
has anyone noticed a speed difference with open or closed roofs? the lx was slightly faster with closed roof in patch q, now with the improved aerodynamics is there more of an impact on top speed?
@janm: the xfg now has a few hp less than before, but the xr gt is a little lighter than in patch q, maybe you give that car a try now because it is now more fun to drive. they changed some cars values this way so they behave more different than expected i guess.
