"You can always try to NOT touch other cars, people don't like it anyway. I've seen people get banned for hardly scratching other cars."

and beside this did you guys ever thought about the fact that you maybe dont know how collisions of cars are really like? i mean come on, we are all playing a game. how many of you did ever crash into another car in reality?
i dont really know what its like. in reality i never crashed my car. i just have my game experiences but i would never say this or that is not very good implemented just because its not like i expect it. think about that...
this game is in progress over years and i think the devs have put so much brain in it. imo it seems pretty real.

(hope my english is good enough)

Ever watched a race on TV when they had a crash!? That's how it looks like.

Quote from Johnny Vet Boy B :Overall? Superb fun, with one MAJOR reservation.

Good points: amazing car handling physics and force feedback effects (on G25) / menu system and options are comprehensive and logical (it doesn't try to be flashy which I like a lot) / interesting selection of cars / graphics and sound are good enough, although improvments are always welcome.

Not so good points: TERRIBLE car to car (or car to solid "thing" in environment) physics. Just awful. REALLY spoils the bumper to bumper racing feel when a slight nudge or contact seems to forceably throw my car away from the contact point. This ruins the atmosphere and the flow of racing and I will often be thrown off balance and crash. When the rest of the physics seem so brilliant it's utterly bizarre that this is like this.

It is strange how bad collision detection can ruin the flow of the game. I mean what flow are we talking about here if you keep hitting things. You are NOT supposed to hit any other cars or objects.

I agree that the collision detection system could use a makeover, but I don't agree that it ruins the flow of the game. I see it as secondary to handling physics upgrades.

Quote from BrandonAGr :Any other people experience the snap spin if you drop one of the rear wheels off at the exit of a turn in the f1 or other open wheel cars?

Yes, but it should be like that. Did you see this years Le Mans 24 h race , where the Aston Martin came off a turn and wildly spun.

Quote from Calvinaquino :Hello all. Lets discuss about the cockpit discussion shall we?
I have a theory about people who use and who doesnt use the cockpit view.

Please read the post first THEN take your conclusions.

My theory is that most of (not all) people who use the cockpit and consider it a realistic view, do so because they drive/drove cars in real life. So what i am saying is that most of (you read, MOST OF, not all) people who use views other than cockpit (chase, bumper, custom not in car) maybe havent yet experienced driving a real car. I say this because, say it, if you drive in a real car, and then buy a Simulator that "almost" makes you feel like driving a real car, well, you want to look trought the driver's eyes.

So this is basically it, and now a few observations:
- This is a theory i came up after reading a few of the cockpit view posts. so i may be wrong or not quite right.
- if you drive/own a car in real life AND drive in chase cam or other than cockpit, well youre not different. youre just yourself.

in case anyone asks, i drive my father's car (in real life of course) and use the cockpit view unmodified.(i own a shitty wheel, still waiting for the G25) but i dont own it, so why i play LFS? to feel and do what i cant in real life: Race.

thanks for your time.
.

Well, you got proven wrong. At current moment, it seems that it makes no difference whether you drove a real car or not.

Quote from Calvinaquino :
EDIT: I, in any wait, am saying that if you dont like cockpit view you suck. i dont care. it is just some researching.

Well thanks, I think you suck too.

Quote from Trekkerfahrer :good so

i think rfactor has only an advantage with cutsom cars and tracks.... tried the demo two weeks ago and i uninstalled it 5 minutes later

i will never play another racesim or the "want to be relistic" arcade games like rfactor

LFS was best, is best and will be best

Yeah, but driving around mount panorama in V8's is way cool... AND... it doesn't feel arcadey at all.

Quote from Gabkicks : This is a serverside OPTION. Scawen could add a keyboard/mouse only serverside option and i wouldnt care, because i could simply choose not to join that server.

You would care if 70% of all racers used keyboard.

Quote from thisnameistaken :I don't think things like physics changes or brake fade are very useful comparisons. Nobody ever complains when the physics change.

Stuff like that is the same for everybody. Whereas in this case, some people feel they've had their driving method ruined or made obsolete - that's why they are angry about it.

I shouldn't really have to explain this...

Quote from AK-Chester :Hm, I have no idea what you are talking about. "My" server list doesn't look like that at all. It shows (way) more than 5-6 servers with a reasonable amout of players on it, and just a (very) few of them use forced cockpit view. :twirl:

Let's not count the city driving and drift servers, for the sake of argument.

I used to drive keyboard for over a year, so you'll get no sympathy from me

Quote from Becky Rose :I ENJOY racing in T-bar view. I find it more immersive, probably only because of television but regardless of why I like it. Regarding what real F1 drivers have i'll say this much, I bet their mirrors - no matter how puny - are actually within their field of view!

I used to only ever race in cockpit in LFS until I tried T bar view, now I have custom views for all my cars. FXR is a roof cam for oval racing, my single seaters are all tbar, the tbo's I race from a point just behind the dashboard that exagerates the movements of the car (as the dash is so close) and helps me connect with it easier.

I care about Immersion, I am really not fussed about looking at an empty screen with a tiny viewport in the middle. If I wanted to play GTR2 I would.

So, from a personal perspective, I dont like the cockpit view. I find it far less immersive and makes the game less enjoyable to play, I find I cannot feel how the car is behaving as well as I can from my custom views.

So really, the whole forced cockpits thing isnt something I like and I cant see any benefit to having it enabled other than die hard LFS'rs who feel that use of 'arcade views' belittles their precious game.

I do understand the need for it in autoX, but I hope that other servers dont implement this option.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Do you ever step back from a situation and realize that you're prematurely reacting (overreacting) to something? Give it a week or two to see how things play out. If it goes badly, I have little doubt that it will be tailored to suit the community.

We've all gotten the fact that you're vehemently opposed to this change. No need to continue spamming that fact.

Yeah, how would you feel if I told you that Scawen just implemented the option for servers to force GTA1 type view AND 68% of all racers are voting that everybody be forced to use this view. Suddenly you see a very big chance the only game you play might change totally to a different type and you don't want it to. DAMN RIGHT YOU WOULD FEEL UPSET AND WORRIED. You'd be shooting out ten posts a day in this thread.

Quote from AK-Chester :No one forces you to join a server that uses forced cockpit view (if you should find any, that is).

That's 100% correct. If there is 6 servers that are using forced cockpit view, I always have the freedom to ignore them and go race on the servers with 1-2 other players.

What all you guys are demanding is that since you think that your view is so uber realistic, that is the only view that you want to use. But since others are using a custom view, they "might" get an advantage over you and thus, 30% of all racers must drive the view you like.

Basically what this means is that you don't want to use the cockpit view and you want to stop everyone else from using it. That's pretty arrogant and self-centered.

This "you can go to another server, if you want" is total BS and you all know it. We only have 5-6 servers with normal amount of cars running.

Quote from Tweaker :I am not trolling, what other comments might I have on this subject than exactly what I had posted earlier. Ferrari are punks for losing, and they ALWAYS go and blame something out of ordinary in the team for their cars being slow. If this is true, then count my comment out, but the Ferraris aren't completely off the pace, they are still going quite fast. And any competitors being faster than Ferrari at a few GPs is nothing new, so why does it magically have to be these few last GPs that some dude sabotages their fuel .

THERE is your nonsense genius.

You probably come up with the same excuses yourself when playing online in LFS... everyone does. "Oh it is my setup, anyone have a faster setup?" ---or--- "I am tired, goodbye" (essentially meaning I don't like losing, this sucks). "My dog hit my brake pedal"

Oh yes, that's right, you got it. I am frequently heared of making excuses for my driving I constantly worry about my laptimes try to make sense of it all. It must be the setup, it must be... Nooot!! illepall Keep up the fantasies

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/t ... mula_1/article1975262.ece

Now, as far as i can tell, everybody and their dog is claiming that stepney has sabotaged the ferrari's by adding some sort of white powder into the fuel tank. However, this makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

"Since the mysterious powder was discovered, the Ferrari team’s performance has fallen in the past three grands prix."

Is it just me that thinks the white powder was actually some sort of performance enhancer? Obviously if the powder was found, all the parts would be replaced and stuff, so why has performance Dropped!?. Seems to me like ferrari got caught out cheating and are using stepney as a fall guy.

It's funny what the only other logical explanation you could think of was. I'm sure even Ferrari are less mischievous than you.

He sure does come off driving like an ass, but he is not. It appears to me he is doing everything in good faith. And the guy who he "pushed off" was on the outside. When you are on the outside you should be prepared to be driven off the road - even CRC rules allowed it as normal racing practice.

Just an unfortunate amount of incidents during a 1,5 lap period. Mind you that he is helluva lot faster than everybody so no wonder they get in the way.
