Quote from Intrepid :Would be impossible to regulate. Also if this was true then the drivers would soon start aiming somewhere else. The ONLY reason F1 is the goal for many drivers is the fact it offers a wage. The whole arse would fall out of F1 if they capped wages for drivers

You're right... That part of the rules has been dropped. In fact, the engines, the drivers, and one extra teammember are now free from the costcap.

Also, the latest proposition to the FOTA teams (which they declined) was that 2010 would see a 100 million euro cap, instead of a 45 million euro cap.

Quote from Intrepid :A £40m budget cap will only widen the gap between the richest and poorest teams. A richer team will only find smart ways to spend their extra cash which will give them the advantage. Drivers wages will go through the roof etc...

The no driver wages and no engine cap is only for 2010, from 2011 both of those will be subject to the budget cap. Or at least that is how I understood it.

That's not a freak accident, that's just a very very dangerously placed wall, and some real bad luck.

That wall should never have been there. A child could see that a car ending up on that wall would be split in two.

The people ultimately responsible for that wall (the track organisers) should be jailed for a long time.

Quote from Mustafur :I don't watch GP2 now, what makes you think ill watch it next year.

Then you watch nothing... Fine by me. F1 won't be GP2 next year, even if there's only 2 old teams left. Also, FOTACS (Formula One Teams Association Championship Series) won't be F1 with only 16 cars, soon to be 12 when the private teams still left will be unable to get the sponsorship required to make the field without a budgetcap.

Quote from UncleBenny :I wasn't listening to the broadcast most of the race but it seemed like the lap down cars can use some rule to get their lap back by not pitting under caution? Seems strange but will probably only work on a couple tracks.

If you're a lap down, and don't pit, you get the waveby with 2 to go by the pacecar, so you're at the tailend of the lead lap. This is so that the leader is actually the car behind the safetycar. This will work on all tracks, but is best on long tracks where you don't automatically lose a lap pitting under green.
On the smaller tracks, you may decide to stay out, get a lap back, and then pit under the next caution. It's a gamble, but may be worth a win.

Quote from Mustafur :Max has seriously Single handedely destroyed F1, If there is a breakway series i know which one ill be watching.

Yeah, F1, because the other one will be too busy in court with Bernie to do any racing whatsoever.

Quote from Bob Smith :I'm also interested in comparisons between this car and sims like NASCAR 2003, I want to know where things differ and how I might make this mod more accurate, given the limitations of symmetric tyre dimensions, suspension, brakes, etc, and no live axle at the rear.

NR2003 has a heavier feel to the car. The rebound and compression sets are way softer than what you have in your standard setup. Other than that, every difference I notice in car behaviour can be changed by having an asymmetric setup. Unfortunately that leaves us with very few options to fix behaviour. Namely tire pressures.

Ran a couple of laps...

I love it...
Only minor issue I have is that I can't go all out asymetrical on the setup, but you can't help that. Other than that it feels about right. Please give this to the devs, and tell them to build us a chassis and some sheet metal around it. I wants it!

Great Job, Bob! (coming from a former NASCAR Racing 2003 player)

'ZOMG... Teh RFactorz is here in LFS!!!!

:P

I'll try this one tonight, Bob... If it's any good I hope to god the devs will give us a NASCAR in the next patch (after the VWS) and a couple more ovals.

When you say "Can't get passed the login screen" does that mean you actually see the login screen, or the computer freezes before showing any graphics?

If you see the login screen the same way it used to be on the screen, then your graphics card is fine. If the login screen is the way Windoze looks in Safe Mode it's broken but not dead.

It might be memory. Stop Error 0xA often indicates memory parity errors. Either caused by a program in Windoze itself (should be repairable from safe mode with msconfig) or by damaged/hot RAM (hard to repair on the fly).

Check to see if you have any instances of that file running, or if you have any suspicious connections to websites open...

(run cmd.exe, type in netstat -a and hit enter)
Especially look for that address you posted.

If there's nothing there, then we have a challenge, otherwise kill and remove the file if you can find it, or kill and remove the process that is connecting to the site if you can find it.

Quote from Danke :I'd like to pick up on this point. I've been driving manual for years but my wife doesn't. On the rare occasions when I need to drive her van, I leave her stranded with a car she can't drive. So I'm thinking about getting something with a tiptronic/steptronic for my next car, probably either a Mini or a VW Rabbit.

Has anyone used one of the above trannys? Of course the downside of my wife being able to drive my car is that she might like it and leave me with the van.

Little tip when you get a auto with a tiptronic stick...
When you buy it and they start preparing it for you, tell them to turn the stick around.

I have no clue why, but every single tiptronic auto box I've driven has the damn stick in it backwards... Push forward on the stick = down, pull backwards on the stick = up... How hard can it be?

Also, make sure you buy one that doesn't insist on shifting down for you (like fiats) even when you have it set to manual. Brake and shift from 4th to 3rd right after the car has decided it would do that for you makes for really sore ribs and neckpains.

Over here you can take driving lessons (at about 40 euros an hour, depending on where you live) from the day you turn 18. You need a minimum amount of 20 hours (I think) and have passed a written exam to take a practical exam. This practical exam (nowadays) consists of 2 parts:
Independent driving skills. You get a destination, and you need to drive there without incident or error.
Special manouvres. You need to parallelpark, narrow street U-turn, or back the car up around a corner.

You can take the Special manouvres exam before your practical exam if you wish.

After that you get a 'points' license. You have 3 points, and for every major infraction for which you are stopped by the police you're deducted 1 point. No points left = no more license.

After 5 years the points license is replaced with a permanent license.

Oh yeah, you can only take a practical exam in the city you live in (or near).

Quote from PaulC2K :That'll be the same contract which says Ferrari have the power to veto on any new rule, such as say a 2-tier rulebook?
If the FIA can get away with ignoring legal contracts, im sure Ferrari can.

Yes... However...
Ferrari has been ruled in breach of that contract and to have lost their right to veto major changes by forming the FOTA and essentially being in the opposition of the governing body. One of the terms in that contract was that Ferrari was to remain 'loyal to the FIA'. By forming the FOTA they gave up that loyalty and with that their right to veto decisions made by the FIA during the time in which they were involved in FOTA.

They were also ordered to compete in the 2010 and 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship by the court.

So, While the contract is as close to not existing as it will ever be, they've been ordered to stay and can't leave F1 for 2 years.

I think I'll wait until Project Páscoa gets realised...

Complete Neural Interfacing. Instead of actually physically playing games, you hook up, and live the games inside your head. I'd play LFS on that system.

Here's the question everybody wants answered...

What server was the SC driver last seen on before the race, and what username does he use?

If anybody asks me for a great example of intentional wrecking on a server, I'll point them to this video.

And now for the question that nobody's asked, but was the first one that popped into my head when I read what your PC does...

Does it also happen when you browse using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox?

If it does happen when using Internet Explorer then continue disabling services (send us a txt file with them and I'll tell you which ones you can do without). If it doesn't, uninstall Firefox, and reinstall it from scratch. The 3.0.10 update messes up the profile sometimes, and that can cause these problems.

Before everyone here starts moaning about my approach... I'm a systems administrator, and a support technician... I know what I'm doing... Really... I do.

Quote from SamH :The irony is that, if Ferrari hadn't shafted McLaren, Williams et al, and torpedoed the breakaway series last time the Concorde Agreement was up for review, they wouldn't be threatening to leave BerniMax and F1 behind now.

That series had all the makings of an absolutely Ferrari-perfect scenario, with regulatory consistency, freedom for technological innovation and fair profit sharing, and everything else that Ferrari are now complaining are leaking out of F1 today.

I bet every time Luca thinks about that in bed, he cringes and rolls over. Better (very) late than never, eh?

Absolutely Ferrari-perfect scenario, save for one little thing... No viewers, broadcasts, fans, etc. Other than the handful of F1 fans who would go with them to the tracks.

Splitting F1 up into two seperate series would do the same for European Open Wheel Racing as splitting up CART and IRL did for AOWR. It will kill it completely. Luckily for us we have very fun and competitive second class series (A1GP, SuperLeague Formula, GP2) that are just waiting to take over from F1. What we need is a cool V8 Stockcar championship like NASCAR or Aussie V8s to complete the show, or a 30+ car DTM field, and Europe is ready to drop Open Wheel cars just the same as the US was ready 14 years ago.

Quote from deggis :http://www.guardian.co.uk/spor ... ri-formula-one-budget-cap

Piero Ferrari speaks.

About the Indycar 1986 thing... "He [Enzo] wasn't bluffing," his son said. "He was serious. And so are we."

Difference being that Enzo had long been planning to run the 497.5 at Indy, and the only real question was if it would be Ferrari or Alfa branded.

BTW, there's an error in the article... It's a 40 million UKP cap, not a 40 million US$ cap. There's only a 20 million difference between the two (in US$).

I think the whole car selection menu will be redone to make it easier to find specific cars... So we'll have boxes with small icons which will be named for the classes of the cars that are grouped into the boxes.

I hope the FIA decides it's time to quit playing around, and tells the teams "fine, no voluntary budget cap... A mandatory 44 million cap and that's the end of it".

You see, the problem is that the teams are complaining about this whole voluntary thing, while in reality they simply don't want a budget cap at all. Ferrari has the resources to win, just as Renault does and Red Bull... If there's a budget cap all those resources won't help them, and they will need other means to win instead of 'more money'. Ferrari has proven so far this season that they seriously lack other means to win. They aren't in F1 to compete for the win, they're in F1 to buy themselves the win.

Teams should quit complaining... This budget cap thing ultimately will save F1, even if the big teams leave. As long as they remain the fastest cars that run on road courses they will be F1.

Quote from logitekg25 :first of all, welcome to the thread, and thanks for the advice , but can you please be a little bit more specific about the 'metal slots', i am not quite sure what you mean:dunce:

The big knob that you turn to select H-pattern/sequential in effect moves a rather big metal piece over the shifter lever so that it cannot move left/right, while pushing down on it so it won't fall into the 3rd and 4th gear positions.

If you can't turn the knob something must be obstructing the moving metal piece, or the metal piece isn't properly aligned and tries to move to the side or up.

Quote from CasseBent :...mad? One oval is more than enough imo, an improvement it is not

We definitely need more ovals, imo. Basically at least of each kind (short track, speedway, superspeedway) and a few variations (banked, flat, tri-oval, quad-oval). We also need some cars to run on them.

This oval, though, is not a great idea. It is way too long for a flat oval, and the turns are too sharp in relation to the straights... Think of this as a Martinsville on serious steroids.
