It's cool to see Scawen getting into RoR, and pricorde getting into LFS!
you guys are legends, even if i can only understand the bits with words like 'wobbly' in.
I'm getting all revved up for the 24 of le-mans. it's gonna be one to remember, weather Audi manage to pull it off or not!, the R10 is looking good and only pescarolo it seems can take the race to them.
i just wanna know where the peoples vote is going: historic diesel win, or privateer glory?
Ari vatennan is a GOD, simple. you've just gotta see how calm he seems throughout. a beautiful piece of film, i'm sure it's one of the reasons i drive a peugeot!
my mate asked me last night, Has LFS made you a better R/L driver?, I had to answer yes, but it got me thinking how the two really compare.
I'm pretty sure it merely shows that if you're natuarally talented, it will show up in LFS just as it does IRL. sure there are different skills/sensations, and it's not like LFS can simulate DRIVING to the degree of perfection, but it's certainly tought me to race.
I feel more comfortable with others around me at race-pace, and i'm pretty sure i've got a better grasp of many racing tactics.
Please tell us, it might actually help if we could work out WTF is going on inside a wrecker's head. (joke withheld)
I enjoy a good crash, but i'll still go out of my way to avoid them if i'm gonna effect somebody elses race.
quite often there is a bit of fun contact with a few of the guys i regularly race with and know well, I never do it during a race, but we'll often have a lap or two of full contact racing, it's fun.
the only thing most of us hate wreckers for is simply because they are ignorant of other people's right to a clean, close race, they just wanna have fun in the quickest way possible.
try banger racing if you want to crash, nobody will get upset with you for ruining a race, and you'll have a huge amount of fun. (we might even start to respect you, if you respect others)
Is the word F'cktard offensive to people of you're type then? or am i just being ignorant?
[/humor]
if you wanna make the best of it, start racing for you're kicks, it takes a while to get to a decent level (we all know wreckers can't drive) but worth it for the respect you'll gain from people you race with. you certainly ain't gonna get any respect from any of us ATM
I'm signing up my server!
BTW it might be a cool idea to have an identifying symbol in the server name or welcome message, showing it part of the network.
compulsory pitstops are there for adding a little strategy into the game, it's only really any use with anything over 10-15 laps, and only then when R2s are used.
I don't like using them when it's only a short 10-15 lapper, simply because there are too many people out there who'll take advantage of something that would be seriously frowned upon IRL, most real series have a pit window to stop things like this happening.
I've just printed it off and posted it through my neighbours door! even managed to find a DVLA envelope to put it in!
It's lucky we have that football thing going on, although i've made a little guide to help out at other times.
Drivers of poor IQ are easy to spot, they usually have a Max power or Fast car sticker somewhere. sometimes it is displayed in the form of a 'motorsport' sunstrip.
many are trying out the new hi-tech alternative. blue LED idiot-warning lights usually fitted to the washer-jets and tyre valves.
if no other warning sign is displayed (own car in accident etc) you can usually tell by the driving position:- one hand at top of steering wheel and usually leaning into center of car (so they can watch the pretty lights on their radio)
although these are not compulsory, it's usually a sure fire way to tell weather or not the driver is a muppet (or 'globally delayed' if you wanna be politically correct)
we've been whinging about T1 incidents since the dawn of LFS, but it helps to keep awareness of the problem
My personal tecnique for getting through T1 is to brake about 10-20 yards early - but very gently, it gives you a lot more control over the speed you're going, you keep the ability to steer, and the biggest bonus is that the people behind you get a fair warning you're braking without so much risk of an impact.
Remember, Brake lights lag! don't think that if you brake as soon as the other guy does you'll stop in time, chances are (unless he's being gentle) you're gonna hit him, and he'll usually hit sopmebody else etc, etc
I'm sorry if i upset anybody by slagging rFactor off. I'd just spent the day working on my Pb at fernbay green Rev (1.13.20 since you asked ) and a few hours racing doorhandle-doorhandle at AS_club, To jump straight into Rfactor was a mistake, it really isn't comparable to LFS.
I didn't know about the money back thingie, but i'm pretty sure I won't be able to get a refund since i bought it when it came out.
yes, you're screenies look nice Ian, but graphics are not something i find hugely important (been playing proper race-sims since 1995 )
It's a good game for those with no previous sim experience at all, If you've played LFS for very long, the competition looks/feels pretty poor whatever it is (havn't tried NkPro yet )
I know this thread is highly pointless, but I don't care. after wasting the last 3 hours trying to get to grips with rFactor, i'm angry and i want to rant!
I've got a small list of things:
It feels like you're driving a boat
It looks terrible
It is a pain in the arse to configure
It won't work with my clutch/shifter
the tracks are basic
the cars are rough
the physics as a whole are completely fictional
it has a really weird purchase/unlocking system
it is virtually impossible to drive quickly without turning on at least some of the over-invasive driving aids
apart from those things (and a few more i'm sure to think of later) it's a great game, the sound is actually quite good, and i'm sure it has it's fans.
feel free to delete this thread as pointless, I just fancy slagging rFactor off since ISI conned me into wasting 29.99
It just makes it far less likely i'll be watching any F1 for a while (i haven't watched a whole race for at least 4 years)
It's a shame for the supposed pinnacle of world motorsport is going stale like this. and it makes me sad to think that it's the only motorsport most ordinary people see.
